From Extraction to Production

They didn’t nerf the rorqual, they killed it. Its useless now. The biggest mineral dispensers in the game are dead so the economy wont improve. If anything it will get drastically worse.

Players spend a lot of time and invest a lot of effort in finding the style of gaming they want to do. I’ve done so a couple of times, but recently, the rug has been pulled out from under me.

When high-sec moon-mining was a bonanza (yes, maybe too much), I returned to the game, invested a lot of time and ISK, found a group of people that had the kind of playstyle that I enjoyed, and happily played the game for a year.

Ah, then Scarcity… The playstyle that I enjoyed was no longer available. The people that I had enjoyed playing with slowly trickled away. The time (including buying and training skills) and ISK that I had invested weren’t completely worthless, but their value was no longer sufficient to keep my interest.

I kept my three Omega accounts active so I could continue training, but was mostly inactive and considering leaving the game. I couldn’t stay away, however, and when the most recent war got hot, I got back into game and eventually joined one of the null-sec power blocs. I got settled, skilled up and finally got my Rorgual! I could finally make good money mining, although the ores that had been very profitable (Arkanor and Bistot) were no better than most high-sec ores. I still was able to start making enough ISK to consider buying some of the VERY overpriced capitals.

Then the end of Scarcity was announced. I was skeptical, but hopeful. Now that the details have been released, I realize that CCP really has no idea what the effect of their changes does to players. Another playstyle (and even more time and ISK invested) are mostly down the toilet. Who would have thought that a 10 billion ISK Rorgual would not mine as well as a 300 million ISK Hulk!?

CCP, I urge you to listen to those that understand how the game PLAYS. This update is a slap in the face to the older players that have kept this game alive for years. Yes, some of the community can be a bit abrasive, but this game is our hobby! You seem to care more about you’re own philosophy about how things should work than what your players do. Yes, it’s your game, but it won’t be forever if you continue to ignore what your playerbase things.

I urge you to reconsider this “end to scarcity”, which is really nothing more than a nerf to end-game mining and does little for the effort required to build capitals. I would hate to think that the game I care for so much finally might be “leaving me behind”. Don’t be like most governments that think they know what’s better for the people, than the people!

This. It’s not clear how these planned changes will make it any better.

And this. In other words, the value of losses should approach the value of stuff produced. Again not clear how that ratio will improve via these changes. As this is the 3rd part of the plan, it should have gone into effect after the ratio had improved - the ratio did not improve, and even the capital problem is unaddressed.
If anything, the economy actually feels worse overall. So does overall industrial game play. I’m not impressed by the game design aspects - although perhaps the numbers on paper may look right to team ratati.

If people don’t like the actual game play, there will be more cancellations of subs. That should be the main concern. Allegedly making the mining career path clearer (did it really need this?) is a poor excuse for even more stale game play. No problem with orca nerfs, but t1 barges ? Really ?! Keeping the production scheme changes for battleships and up ? Really ?! Even reducing the PI stuff for cap components is band aid on a wooden leg.

Should have gone the opposite way, introduce t2 super/titan counters and keep the game and its economy vibrant and fun for another ten years or more, like rl economists seem to advise (I would have asked dr Eyjo’s opinion, but alas).

And the covetor and retriever got tankier. Honestly, I think miners might come out ahead. I haven’t looked at the numbers yet, but a lot of covetors might not be soloable any more, and a lot retrievers will probably not be soloable. This is a big deal, because it used to be that you could gank coveters and retrievers without scanning them, and know (1) that you can kill them regardless of their tank, and (2) that you’ll be isk positive over time, regardless of their fit. That’s because even though you might lose isk on one, you could be sure to make it up on others. Now, however, you’re looking at possibly needing 3 friends/accounts just gank a barge and scoop the loot, and you might need to start being more selective with who you gank if you’re looking to turn a profit. I mean, ganking barges already had razor thin margins, and this is not going to help. In short, it’s harder to turn a profit ganking barges, you need more players/accounts to gank what were previously the softest targets, and scanning targets will increase times between kills as well as increase the chances that you spook the miners and they safe up.

Meanwhile, procurers and skiffs will still be tough nuts to crack -especially if you skip on fitting a survey scanner.

As a ganker, I’m not super thrilled about this. I am hoping that the waste mechanic will make more miners fit faction, however. So, hopefully well get a win with that.

And, on a side note, I find it curious that you think that hunters are P2W. From my observations, the inverse is true, and very few hunters buy plex/packs. I mean, why would hunters pay for isk, when they can take from you instead?

P.S. Is it just me, or does it seem like a lot of the guys in this thread have a victim mentality?

Edit: Removed some bad info about CCP changing their stance on concord pulling.
No P2W

I have a logistical question - if you have an Orca or Porp that boosts today, when the change goes live does that mean ZERO boosts until indy folks make the new core modules? Because that could take some time…

CCP, please stop changing gameplay so drastically that playstyles are being completely removed, or changed so drastically that they might as well have been removed. Your players invest time and money into these and when you remove them, you are essentially telling those players to go f*** themselves.

I get that you’re a business, but we’re your customers!

This may just be where I genuinely quit EVE. My final goal has always been to get to the point of just chilling in an Orca, because I like the Orca. And now it’s getting hard nerfed for solo, when it wasn’t even good at solo mining. It was just reliable. I do not feel good about this change.

If this is the goal:
The goal is to provide players with more opportunity for resource gathering, better agency for efficient production, and to facilitate the transportation of materials.

I rate your plan as a complete and utter failure in understanding why we subscribe.

CCP, industrialists are like Statics, we just want to be left alone and do our work. Your constant changes are at minimum annoying and at worst are apathetic.

People are sick of having to relearn the basic mechanics of the game they’ve already become familiar with. You can paint it however you like. People, maybe just us loyal, cranky old times are sick of it. Stop the unnecessary “balance passes” please.

seems a bit premature, see CCP rules discussion on ganking and CONCORD mechanics - 2021.11.06 - #126 by Aiko_Danuja ?

Yes please!

The beam should make it visible to everyone that this miner chooses their own yield over the efficiency of the group. That should make it much easier to detect (and kill!) rogue miners.

Also the reactions when you equip the type C crystal to mine valuable moon ore… it’s much more interesting when everyone immediately sees who’s intentionally ‘destroying’ the asteroids!:yum:

Beam colours for crystals, CCPlease.

i mean what the point of having type C crystals lol #CCPls

Nah, let it be a surprise who the saboteur is. No colored mining beams ccplease :stuck_out_tongue:

They apparently have a big bonus on capacitor

thanks for all the hard work, CCP! and, thank you for allowing the players to participate in the process.

can the Prospect have another high slot? being able to fit a probe launcher, mining module, and cloak at the same time would make the ship much more versatile. i think this change would encourage more different types of mining.

wandering around through wormholes, looking for a good gas site is more like treasure hunting than mining. it can be exciting and very rewarding.

thank you for considering it!

@CCP_Dopamine major issue. The endurance has been nerfed to make way for an ice and ore mining drone bonus to make up for it but. IT DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH BANDWIDTH TO USE AN ICE DRONE but still has an ice drone bonus. Please fix

The 2x ore on moon fracs is funny considering you now basically need 4x the effort to mine it all. Granted very rarely does any fleet fully mine out a moon. But without a much bigger fleet you wont be pulling down nearly as much ore. Rorq is not not even worth using with these changes, and we will likely see orcas all over NS now.
