Game event

October 12, 2025 I decided to take part in the new game event the Crimson Harvest.

I assembled a suitable ship and set off to explore the event sites. In my case, these were “The Biocybernetic Incident sites 2”

My ship looked like this:

[Mekubal, Vasya Hilanen’s Mekubal]
Damage Control II
Domination Gyrostabilizer
Domination Gyrostabilizer
Domination Gyrostabilizer

Gistum B-Type EM Shield Amplifier
Medium Abyssal Shield Extender
Pithum C-Type Multispectrum Shield Hardener

Auto Targeting System I
Corpii A-Type Small Energy Nosferatu
200mm AutoCannon II,Phased Plasma S
200mm AutoCannon II,Phased Plasma S
200mm AutoCannon II,Phased Plasma S
200mm AutoCannon II,Phased Plasma S

After going through several event locations, I got the hang of it and didn’t expect any trickery from the developers of this game, but here I made a big mistake.

Arriving at one of the event locations in the Yulai system and entering the acceleration gates, I saw the following instead of the normal event location:

There were a huge number of NPCs at the scene, several remains of destroyed player ships, other players’ capsules, and no other players’ ships at the scene. The NPCs immediately attacked my ship, using everything they had at once. I was unable to escape, and my ship’s defenses lasted only about five seconds.

Here is the result:

After the incident, I remained in the Yulai system for about an hour and a half to two hours, observing the events. I saved the coordinates of my ship’s remains and wanted to retrieve the rest, but there was no way. The location was still listed, the NPCs inside were still there, and I’d lost another ship.

Several more ships belonging to other, unsuspecting players were destroyed.
At first, I thought it was a bug.
But after waiting for the event location to disappear from the list and instantly flying to the saved coordinates of my lost ship, I discovered another player there, collecting the wreckage of the lost ships of unsuspecting players who wanted to participate in the event.

This is the player: obabeh

And I immediately realized that I was dealing not with a mistake by the game developers, but with the most ordinary meanness.

The meanness that this player tried to pass off as his genius and superiority over others:

Кому: obabeh,

это не часть игры, это всего лишь один из тех кто пользуется промахами разработчиков игры, и кто должен нести за это ответственность.

Извините, но это часть игры. Надеюсь, в следующий раз вам повезет больше.

А я хочу что бы твой аккаунт забанили и лучше перманентно.

Я тоже потерял там корабль, но нашёл решение. Я украл твою добычу, но это часть игры.
Уверен, этот инцидент сделает тебя сильнее.

Game developers, please answer me:
Were you involved in all of this?
Did you intentionally design this gameplay event this way?
If not, how and when are you planning to compensate everyone who suffered, again due to your fault?

Of course they were not. They just didn’t think a second about the rule #1 when it comes to EVE Online Development: “If it can be abused, it will be abused!”

Players found out they can lure an overwhelming amount of NPC ships to the location which basically wreck any next incoming player within seconds. So they did and later scooped all the loot from all the destroyed ships. Evil genius.

Unless CCP officially declares this an exploit, I doubt you will get your loss reimbursed. Other players found a clever way to use a sites mechanic against you and you died. Bad luck. I also killed players by luring them into missions with AoE damage (Recon 3/3) for example and laughed my ass off when a whole frigate-gang did turn into wrecks before they were knowing what is going on. Happens, learn from it.
ProTip: That is why all my Fits have a Propmod, I could have easily burned away fast enough so the NPCs in there couldn’t hit me any longer and then warped out. Non-propped fits might be more convenient when tanking while just sitting still, but also dead in the water if something unexpected happens.

In the release, the game developers, if I’m not mistaken, identified these event locations as the best fit for new players so they would have something to do during the event. But in reality, they’ve simply spat in their faces. I’m currently reading the Reddit dedicated to this game, and there are already several threads where people are perplexed by all this. And like all normal people, they want explanations, apologies, corrections, and compensation from the game developers.

Yeah people want a lot of stuff all day long. Doesn’t mean they get it and especially doesn’t mean anyone gives a **** about your hurt feelings.

I mean, if it’s a “site for the newbies”, why going in there in an almost 1B pirate faction ship? A 50m AssaultFrig would have been absolutely sufficient and a loss wouldn’t hurt as much. I bet someone was pretty happy scooping the loot from your wrecked ship.

Harden the **** up!

So, have you at least for yourself figured out to detect if the trap is active to avoid it? I hope it was fruitful after all and teached you something for the future? Otherwise you still have something to do i guess…

For myself, I have determined that the developers of this game are, first and foremost, vile people, and this vileness, unfortunately, remains unpunished and therefore flourishes.

My response to this is to cancel my subscription and any other purchases in this game.
I’d certainly like the owner to take this game away from them and hand it over to other, more competent developers, but it seems the time is not right yet.

@Vasya_Hilanen

I’m confused.

Are you accusing obabeh of purposefully using the npcs to lay a trap, and that the trap destroyed your ship?

Or, that obabeh, after suffering the loss of his ship, just as you did, waited for the event site to conclude, and then looted “the field”, including your dropped modules? In which case, would he not have been flagged with a suspect timer?

From the translation of the emails, it reads to me as if he also lost his ship, and waited around just like you did. Only difference being obabeh was looting all the ship wrecks, while you intended to only loot your own.

That’s an extremely expensive fit for this event. Fly cheaper ships so incidents like this don’t hurt you enough to make you post on the forum. Even if you hadn’t lost it in a trap, some ganker would have taken care of it eventually. You should be able to fly this TFI which worked great for me:

Thrasher Fleet Issue, biocybernetic class 2

[Thrasher Fleet Issue, biocybernetic class 2]
Gyrostabilizer II

He’s lying. He lost his ship, yes. But he lost it to close the event site, which he’d kept open for about two hours. He apparently sat on this ship during the event, somehow remaining invisible to other players and NPCs. When he decided it was enough and time to collect the loot, he emerged from invisibility, the NPC killed him, the event site and the NPC disappeared, and he returned to the saved coordinates to collect the loot, where I found him.

And yes, it was indeed a trap, and a malicious one at that.

I also believe the game’s developers were well aware of the possibility of creating such a trap, and some of them even tried to eliminate it. We saw this in the early days, when the scene would disappear after the second player entered, making it impossible to create a trap. But then they changed that, and we’re seeing the results now.

I even attached a screenshot of this trap above. It shows that all the NPC spawns are there, along with the wreckage of other players’ ships, but there are no other visible living players.
And should you look for damaged generators? If there aren’t any, where do they go and why?

And you still somehow don’t know how to detect it without entering it? Even after you now know the possibility? You rather cancel the game instead of figuring it out?

It’s not even interesting anymore. I just want to comment on the level at which it’s done. Let’s say you live in a small town. You’re offered a weekend tour to the countryside, for fresh air and nature, for a positive experience. You pay and go. And after a stroll through the picturesque surroundings, you ask where the toilet is? Well, of course, it turns out to be a rural restroom, too, in the countryside, but with a twist: one of the tour organizers sawed the boards down so that the city folk would get in, but the boards would break underneath them, and they’d fall into the excrement, letting them bathe in it.

I don’t understand russian, so I have no idea what your problem with that other player was. If you want people to understand your issue, maybe translate the text into English. This isn’t a russian forum anyway.

When are you going to reimburse the pilot who lost his Gila to you, back in 2023. A very obvious PVE fit Gila that did nothing wrong and was just doing PVE stuff that you killed using a vastly superior ship.

Answer that, and then direct that answer to yourself.

The translation won’t be correct.
The short version is “I’m smart, you’re stupid, no one will punish me for it.”

Notice where this happened first.
This Gila was so brazen that before this, she simply went to the place where I had arrived first, completed the event, and stole my loot.
Do you think she then flew off to hide somewhere and wait 15 minutes?
Not at all, she simply flew to the nearby event site in the same system, and I followed. There, after waiting for the boss to deprive this Gila of her chance to escape, I, as you say, attacked the “unfortunate” thief on a stronger ship to punish him for stealing my loot.
Is that really unfair?

This is pure fun to read. Mission and Eventrunners often complain in the forums about how repetitive thoses things are. Now that you were surprised and are even forced to learn something new to avoid losses, you tell me you are not satisfied that something unforeseen happened and surprised you? Seriously? You want a repititive game without thinking and experiencing something new?

Do you have any restaurants where you come in and order something, only to get a bucket of slop on your head and talk about how this has taught you something?

Not slop, but if you ever went to a “dinner in the dark”, you would be surprised, learn something new, even experiencing something you thought you knew as a totally new thing. You would then try something new, adapt and learn. And in the end you would know how to succeed and have a good time. And you would gladly pay to have such an experience.
