Game legal accessibility tools for disabled player

Hello, I am returning after an 8 year break, but I am returning as a slightly different person in that I now have Multiple sclerosis and myoclonus. Without going into too much boring detail I lack strength and coordination in my limbs and find a standard mouse difficult and painful to use (although I still do it if I have to).

I would like to use my Wacom tablet to play, but using the right and left mouse buttons on the pen is hard, so I am trying to find a way to key bind those 2 keys and only those 2 keys to the keyboard. I don’t think that counts as a macro, after all I use the keyboard to press QWE,F1,F2 etc. But I don’t want to get banned for just trying to access the game with a disability more easily. Will using something like ‘key remapper’ or ‘X-Mouse Button Control’ get me banned? and if so is there a way I can do this that won’t get me banned?

Many thanks,
Portman

Maybe you can contact FC directly. I’m sure they’d make an exception under the circumstances. Welcome back (sorry to hear about your situation).

You mean contact support or something? Might be an idea. I’ll look into that too, but if an ISD has any quick info for me here I would still appreciate that too

As an alternate suggestion, you might want to consider a “macro pad,” which is something of a misnomer. While they support macros, you don’t have to configure them. The devices are just small, programmable keyboards, often QMK/Via compatible, that you can change keybinds on through a simple interface.

For example:

These are small enough that you could set one in your lap or maybe off to the side on your Wacom if it’s large enough. You can program the keys to be any standard keypress or even mouse button, scroll, or cursor movement (combining mouse and keyboard in one). On the above model (the Kiiboom Cybrix 16) you can also program the knobs. It supports six layers, giving you up to 96 keybinds, and you can configure one of the knobs to easily cycle through the layers.

As long as you don’t program any multi-key macros, these devices are no different than a standard keyboard (one keypress, one keysym). They just allow you to better organize the keys in a more compact form factor.

That looks like an interesting possibility, do you know if it deactivates your existing numpad or works in addition to it?

It just works as another keyboard, alongside your existing keyboard and/or numpad. You can have the same keys programmed on both.

EDIT:

This is the setup on one of my machines. I don’t use it for gaming. It’s actually for audio production, but you get the idea. Multiple keyboards, working together, all connected to the same machine.

I use reaper on occasion so I can see the potential there. I just submitted a ticket to get advice on what’s allowed or not and I mentioned this peripheral so hopefully they’ll clear that for me, the good thing being I would be able to use it across any app that I use. would solve several headaches t once.

Thanks for the advice (and arthur about subbing a support ticket). I should get this sorted now.

There is, or have been, players with worse handicaps than your (current) level of handicap, that have been playing EVE - such as basically incapable of moving arms/legs and having to use Eye Tracking and Blowtube tools (for mouse inputs) and some form of Voice to Text recognition software for chatting. If you have specific accessibility tools at your disposal, you can always send a support ticket to FC requesting permission to use said tools. FC may ask to see some of your medical documentations for your handicap. So long as you do not abuse some of the macro capabilities that some hardware/tools may have, for the purpose of automating sequences of key presses or input broadcasting - you should be fine.

Rebinding mouse clicks to keys on a keyboard should be fine.

Rule clarifications or concerns are always best handled by speaking to the support team directly → https://support.eveonline.com/hc/en-us/articles/360011834800-Contacting-Support
