You are still showing signs of fascistic tendencies, in other words blocking off others speech just because it does not agree with yours.
That being said I think this subject has been opened up quite well and a number of divergent views expressed even if at times it got the normal rabble doing their normal forum bullshite.
A win for me was Fayleee exposing that document, Australian Excellence making thoughtful posts and a shift in my own position to try to figure out a way to maintain freighter ganking as a play style while reducing this no real counter tactic. I could hop over into the AG channel and ask people to come vote, but that really proves nothing and does nothing.
CCP has to make a decision, and as I no longer partake in the dubious and dreadful gameplay of moving a freighter around in hissec, I noticed that the dreadfully boring grind which is freighter ganking is dying a death anyway. Hopefully more of you go play PUBG and then over time people will get careless and stupid and fill their freighter to the brim and the cycle will start again.
Still what a dreadful mechanic…, can’t change my mind on that chaps…
All you care about is getting changes that make your white knight-ish personality happy. There is zero reason to take anything you say even remotely seriously, and that really is all there is to add to this.
To be sure. The argument with democracy is that at least these people will have to rein in their worst behaviors. Now, don’t get me wrong…this is not some sort of rose tinted endorsement. I think we use the democratic process and hand over considerable power to those who are elected way, way too much. And that voters are deliberately ignorant and even rationally irrational at times does not help matters at all.
Absolutely. I had to stop watching the US version of House of Cards because it seemed more like a documentary to me.
I have to (possibly) disagree in part. The first one is that cutting costs is not a bad thing. That is what entrepreneurs are trying to do all the time. Reduce costs, maintain quality. Find a cost saving innovation at first allows the firm to earn additional profits. That success will drive other competitors to find cost savings either via emulation or via their own innovations. Over time those additional profits will be reduced and overall prices come down. Those lower prices will translate into consumers having money they can spend elsewhere.
The problem is that with a growing political sphere, it is easier to use the political process to obtain those additional profits vs. innovation or the like. Preventing competitors from competing via political dictate is much easier than trying to reduce costs and maintain quality. This is basically crony capitalism. That those who win through the political process can obtain wealth by essentially taking it from everyone else. And as this becomes more and more feasible, the old approach of trying to innovate becomes less and less of the chosen path.
And you’re right…when we look in the Main AFK cloaky thread we see something quite similar. People wanting the game changed to suit their needs vs. the hard work to solve the problem themselves. Similarly with the anti-ganking screeds that pop up on the forums (the posts, not the group…if a group of players want to try and stop ganks…cool, good luck you have your work cut out for you…but hey, it’s a sandbox and if this kind of thing emerges, I’m fine with it). Wanting the game changed because you were ignorant or foolish and you suffered a loss is very much the same thing, IMO. You want a benefit you didn’t really have to work for. Ironically if CCP were to listen to them and implement their suggestions they’d likely be upset because the benefits they thought they’d get would disappear under the increased competition.
This is happening in the Delay Local thread.
Nullbears want immediate Local intel, automatically, as a benefit, without having to work for it.
A hard-cap on bumping just means gank fleets have to operate more efficiently, in terms of arriving earlier, and not “whenever we feel like it, had dinner, had coffee and a smoke, washed dishes and took a dump… ok im finally coning now”.
Not sure if I can safely respond, though, otherwise some white knights will declare I am trying to get the thread locked. As if I did not have more effective ways of doing so if I actually wanted to.
We agree for the most part, including the innovation part, though I have to wonder about the “maintaining of quality”, because when it comes to buyables that matter (food, fluids, etc) this really is not the case … not to forget planned obsolescence (are there still people denying that it exists?)
We will make sure that CCP does not listen to them. We will make sure that CCP sees things in the real light, not in the light they want to put things into. And with that said, I am going to reward Scipio for his work. Even booted into windows for this … I should try to get EVE running in WINE.
This is my criticism of you Sol, you mouth off and yet don’t even play…
Go find a ganking loss on any of my characters, you are wrong on this, I oppose bumping as it is because it is a piss poor mechanic, simple as. Just as I find AFK cloaky camping, the AFK part a piss poor mechanic…
Use tags to fix it. It’s just an excuse, they have all the tools at their disposal but they’re incompetent and useless. Most of these ag characters are alts they use purely to antigank as they’re terrified of us learning their mains.
The example I like to use is the car. I am old enough to remember when cars did not have:
Power locks,
Power windows,
Crap speakers and just AM/FM radios.
Cell phones and bluetooth were literally science fiction.
Now all of those things and more are standard on even some of the most entry level models.
Yeah, sometimes quality takes a hit. Like toaster ovens. If your toaster oven breaks you just toss it and buy a new one…because they are so inexpensive. The costs have been lowered so much that you just buy a new one vs. getting it fixed. Same with VCRs (do they still make those), DVD players, and numerous other household appliances. And yeah, some companies just sell crap. But then that has always been the case. I don’t deny that businesses will always look for an advantage, but at least with them we can walk away. With the politicians we can’t. So I prefer solutions that hinge more on the voluntary and not just business stuff. There are a number of examples of people finding voluntary solutions to their “collective” problems that don’t involve government.
And I hope CCP takes a similar approach. Take the Anti-Ganking group. I have no issue if some players want to spend their time trying to foil freighter ganks in game…so long as they confine their activities to being in game. What I’d object to is going to CCP and pleading some sort of special case for a mechanics change so they can accomplish their goals with less effort. I’d see the first part as the natural emergent properties of the sandbox. I don’t necessarily agree with what they are doing, but hey…it’s a big sandbox. The latter behavior I’d object to strenuously.
As for a bump timer. I can see that some people might be peeved that they are bumped for a Long Period of Time™. However, my advice is…log off. If they are just bumping to collect tears and annoy…take that away. Log off and go for a walk. Go get some food. Pet your dog (or cat). Come back later when the doofus has moved on to annoy someone else. Would a warp after N minutes kind of thing solve it? Sure, but from reading these threads these events are pretty rare. Out of all the freighters booming around out on the trade lanes this happens how often exactly?
I wasn’t referring to bumping but to ganking (i.e. changing the game to eliminate ganking).
Given the results so far of Black Pedro’s poll…probably not.
