Could I bump someone for 5 hrs? sure - it’s like mining for 5 hrs. Q/W combination makes it pretty easy, the occasional course correction if you end-up on their rear side. With practice, no doubt I’d get better. I kept myself locked down easily enough with Q/W reseting approach.
The AFK bump was my misread of the mechanics with approach - that was my bad.

Rough draft for mechanic implementation of a hard-cap on bumping to prevent warp:
A 25min timer begins on a bumped ship, upon the first instance of a ship moving at faster velocity than itself is, colliding with it, with sufficient force to disrupt its aligning.
If during that timer, the ship with the timer manages to successfully engage warp, the timer is removed.
If the ship is pointed, the timer is stopped for as long as the ship remains pointed, and continues counting when point is removed.
If the timer counts down from 25mins to 0, and the ship is not pointed (or present in a bubble) the ship will instantly enter warp.
If the ship with the bump timer initiates a new warp command to a new destination, the timer is removed.
If the ship disengages warp process to its destination, the timer is removed.
Discuss and see if you can poke a hole in that.
Instead of gish/trash posting to bury it.
You will find that with a lazy approach to bumping that targets will have a much higher chance of getting away.
With this method you also will be largely ineffective in pushing them out of gate gun range, which is one of the primary purposes.
Not AFK you can’t.
For a real test now against more difficult targets to keep bumped, you should jump to TQ for it for a bit.

Yeah - it’s tempting to try it on TQ. I was using a 500m orbit - a tighter orbit might make it easier to switch to the approach. Will experiment more. Was an interesting afternoon.
I agree with this as long as people have to manually engage warp to prevent the autopilot from saving the freighter. Not that it matters, but I wanted to make it clear nonetheless.

The amount of freighters being bumped for lengths of time extending past your 25 minutes is small if not negligible.
I don’t believe it contributes to anything productive in the game that’s worth the dev time (even if it takes minimal effort)
There hasn’t been any convincing argument as to why we need this in the game. What this comes down to is people that do not like a part of the sandbox and want to see any kind of nerf or change to it. So you can spin this how you want or create your narrative where you ignore facts, but you have failed to demonstrate why this is a needed feature. You don’t work for CCP nor do you even know what their current stance is on it.
I can add that to the draft, but I dont think the game cares whether the command is issued by autopilot or manually.

If the amount of ships bumped past 25mins is small, then its not a problem to hardcap it at 25mins
CCP already dedicated dev time to it, thus recognizing it as an issue. Would be a shame to waste that.

You don’t know the extent of what this group got done before being dissolved. For all you and I know they could have just discussed the possibility over a lunch break.
I’m not trying to create an argument that we NEED it. I’m saying that it’s a rarity and this not a problem worth solving right now.

Its both supported by recommendation from Miniluv in their report, and widely accepted here as a duration.
You can disagree with that all you want, but it doesnt change the above.

I like Siegfrieds bump timer being when the server goes down everyday. Seems fair.
Bumpings so easy I can hit a nomaded triple istabbed nomad once and goto the toilet and it’ll still be bumped 3 minutes later. I love afk bumping XDXDXD
