Ganking on Ice Fields – An Absurd Situation

I have been a player in EVE ONLINE for about 10 years. I fly mainly in HIGH SEC because for me PVE matters more. I know I know, the old veterans will probably roast me right away that I don’t know how to play. I myself play on 4 accounts – because mining on one account is barely profitable. But what has been happening recently in EVE ONLINE is a joke and a tragedy. I often fly to gather ice from rocks. It depends, 3 x HULK and an Orca, or 3 x Mackinaw and an Orca. Finally, a SKIFF. No matter which ships I choose, I always get ganked. I mine ice for example in 0.7. I enter the ice field and there are already 2 players mining, each with 10 accounts. I am there, let’s say, 5 minutes and immediately these people send their ships at me. After that I lose one ship, for example a Mackinaw. Recently there was even a case where I came with an Orca to mine ice and some guy pushed me off the belt, pushing my ship 200 km away from my ships. Just so that I couldn’t support my ships. For me that is insane. The game EVE has become for players who run 20 accounts. They play in corporations that occupy ice fields in HIGH SEC making private mining places out of them. A normal player has no right to come there because immediately other ships are sent at you. In 2 days I have lost over 1.5 billion ISK this way. This is insane. This is a safe zone? I understand that EVE is not a safe game but for heaven’s sake what is going on here?

Miners— the most toxic and insidious players in EVE. Congratulations for mining 10 years in a row (for what, more ISK on your account? lol, miners…) and only now found out that ganking is a thing.

Look it is simple, those two players want it all for themselves (if it is even two players and not just one massive multiboxer) and will use all means available to remove competition from “their” belt.

If you were smart you are doing it too. This is perfectly intented and legit. You have two choices. Gank their ships for a revenge or/and find yourself another ice belt.

Well you multibox 4 yourself so it makes no sense to complain about multiboxing.

Can you maybe recommend me some playstyle? Some kind of ship fit? I don’t know, maybe just flying an Orca + Skiff? Not using the Hulk or Mackinaw at all. I’d earn less, but at least I’d have some peace.
Well… the Skiff can also be lost. Everything can be lost.
There’s really no protection from gankers.
This is what the so-called ‘safe zone’ is like.
Maybe you could recommend some fit?

unless you make a skiff  over 200,000 EHP  hah. but then you won’t make any money on it…

Yes I can. Try anything else than mining. I know that you mine with 3 Hulks with boost so that actually requires some atention, but still, do you really just mine all day long everyday you play? What is a point of that? Just so you don’t have to pay cash to have omega on all your toons? Isn’t that bit of a loophole you got yourself into?

Use this situation to try other content in EVE, security missions, combat signatures, data/relic hunting in null and wormholes, or that PvP by trying to gank their ships. Not that you force them away from the belt, but you might have some fun and feel satisfaction from your revenge.

Or do nothing of that and keep crying about game (other players) being unfair…

Put an MWD and loads of tank on a Machariel and bump his ships out of the belt.

So? I’ve been playing for about 20 years, and disagree almost with everything you say here.

Then you don’t play Eve, you’re a slightly less advanced NPC for people actually playing Eve. At least the rats shoot back, you just sit there and complain.

Because you’re in highsec, where guess what, in highsec:

Only the most NPC aspirant players mine in highsec where there’s no money to be made.

You have no rights in Eve. Nothing you harvest or gather is yours until you get it to a station. Just because there’s no player sov mechanic in HS doesn’t mean that you can’t claim an area through sheer force of arms. If some highsec miners decide to claim a system, it’s on you to either counter that claim or move on.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results. There are hundreds of ice fields in New Eden, but you keep going back to the same one and expecting different results. Hint: the issue here is not the game.

Whoever told you that lied to you, or you need to go back to school for reading comprehension. The words “high” and “total” do not have the same meaning. The only safe place in Eve is docked at a station.

Eve is working as intended, the issue is between your chair and keyboard.

Stop alt-tabbing to Netflix and actually play the game. Put the Transversal Velocity column on your overview and watch it, if the ship is moving but transversal is zero, they’re coming straight at you and you need to move. Learn to PvP, specifically learn how to gank others, and you’ll know exactly what not to do when flying around. Put on your big boy underpants and leave highsec. There’s less random ganking and intel channels warning you of hostiles in nullsec.

The other day, you lost 2 hulks that i know of…..

you were told as an ex horde refugee as well as not being blue that you would be interdicted upon….

Your response was that you had 10 Billion ISK and those hulks were already replaced….but here you are crying about losing 1.5 billion…..

Only 8.5 to go to make you broke….

My Answer: get out of my constellation, or get blue….if i or my allies dont get you…the Safety guys that live in the are will…and they do it for the sheer lulz.

Armed competition in an open-world sandbox game. Group X is clamining the system by force and you either have to fight over it and beat them or get beaten until you make no more profts and leave. Which is absolutely what is their goal.

Those ice roids are not yours. You have no godgiven right to mine them. You are not entitled to anything in this game. Grab what you can (and can get away with it). And if something is too hot for you, toughen up or go look somewhere else. Easy as that.

ProTip: Cooperate with others to gain strength in numbers. It makes it much easier to claim or defend whatever you want to take. EVE isn’t meant to be played “solo”. You can chose to do so, absolutely, but you will always be the very bottom of the food chain. Get used to it if you want to keep playing a mass-multiplayer-game that way.

I’m talking about the game system itself. What’s the point of being a miner in EVE Online (obviously everyone needs resources at some point) if every attempt to mine anything ends in a gank? What’s the point? A player with just one account, let’s say, spends a week mining rocks — to then buy a beautiful, shiny Hulk — and loses it in 5 seconds in the game. So what’s the point then? It’s better, in that case, to spend 10 dollars and buy 2 trillion ISK without wasting time. That’s EVE Online. Why bother struggling?

Then it’s no wonder that players leave. I think I’ve had enough of this game myself. It’s better to invest your time in No Man’s Sky or other games. Just let it go. What’s the point of spending $80 a month on mining (Omega) and losing a ship every other day? It would be better to spend $80 on PLEX, which gives you so much ISK that you don’t have to bother with mining at all. That’s EVE Online.

I don’t know, maybe I’m thinking wrong. Maybe I’m a bad player. I just wanted to calmly enjoy mining minerals. Nothing more. But I am almost immediately removed from every asteroid field. Whether it’s ice or ore.

What system is this? I’ll bring in my mining ships.

@Uriel_the_Flame it looks like fun is waiting to be had!

0.6 Mitsolen? Okay give me a couple of days to see how mad I can make them. I need to buy a new Skiff!

So you were mining a week with Orca + 3 barges/exhumers to buy that 280mil fit Hulk?

Holy moly, you are either big liar or very bad. Btw Hulks used to be much more expensive IIRC, their price is now Joke. If you are mining with the setup you have you should be able to replace it pretty much imediatelly.

Also you claimed that not even Skiff helps. Well I don’t see a Skiff loss on your killboard. Another lie?

Miners, miners never change…

If you just want to mine in relative peace & safety, I HIGHLY suggest you join a Nullsec bloc. They find a system with little traffic near their Sov market hub and base your mining setup around there.

Since you multi-box, the NPC rats that spawn on ore anoms are basically extra ISK income, and you have on site compression, basically you are wasting your potential as a miner in HS. You could be earning 3-4X that in NS and it’s actually safer. There’s no ganks, at all. Because local is blue, and thus, neutrals that come alert the intel channel in advance for you to pay attention when or if they come into your system.

All the ores you mine, you can get into industry yourself to supply the NS market, or sell it at 90-95% JITA (all major NS blocs have these buy-back services where they buy everything you mine).

Do not ever bother with HS mining, it’s low profit for one account, and multi-boxing attracts ganks from rivals who “claim” these resources, or just the rampant ganking squads that do it for the lolz.

Haha! Too true! They never do. I’m simply a miner of a different sort. But still, I’ll never change either.

Kana Kito I sent you a message in-game  Please reply. Thanks!

Maybe mine somewhere else?

New Eden is large.

Clearly someone does not want you to mine there in that spot. Even though it is High Sec space they still have ways to force you out of ‘their’ ice belts through ganking and bumping. Elsewhere in the game you could legally fight back but you have chosen to mine in HS so you too are limited to ganks and bumping to fight other miners. So fight back for your ice.

Or if you do not wish to fight: move.

Mine elsewhere.

I seriously doubt that there are any hisec ice fields that someone does not think that they ‘own’. Fly prepared for that.

Stop mining ice in Caldari space. That will solve 99% of your problems right there…

Then either join a group that can and already has claimed some part of the map and can actually push out others. That convenience will come along with some tax rate of course, the guys keeping you safe need to feed their children too…

Or realize that EVE Online simply isn’t the game for you. It is a massive MULTI player game. It has no “safe spaces to just calmly enjoy mining minerals”. Other players will find you and if they can think of any reason to remove you - and be it just for the fun of it - they will do. I’ve heard in the X-series you can be an industrial tycoon 24hours a day, without sub costs and any PvP players messing around with you. You also don’t play soccer in an open tournament and then complain if other players want to take the ball from you, right?

Competition, you are too high profile, try 2 X Endurance and a cloaky hauler that picks up the ice, leave the orca in station and only undock to compress it once you’re done.

100m3 compressed ice

19,000 m3 space The Endurance = 190 cubes.

Lower profile, very low value target, you are essentially trying to do what they are doing, cornering the ice belt, 190 x 2 endurance = 380 cubes, that’s so much.

CCP could give a hauler or the endurance the ability to compress making the ability for 1 multi boxer or mega corp to easily dominate the belt.

Just use 4 Endurances and orbit the ice at 3km/s using an MWD. There’s not a damn thing they can do about it…
