Either the AFK mine in Procurer/Skiff or well tanked Orca.
Or the are the exception and they actually don’t mine AFK. 
Orca/Hulk with proper use of the Orca as a support ship.

Some people mix “similar” with “repetetive”. A Gatecamp might be “repetitive” from the pure mechanics that you utilize, but it’s not boring at all, as you never know who might be a Jackpot Drop, who might be a Bait, who might try to bust your camp or who is actually good enough to slip through. Spending an evening with some beers, some teammates and just camping a gate is actually quite fun, especially if something out of the ordinary happens and someone tries to mess around with you.
On the contrary, mining an Icebelt or Ore Site in HighSec is the incarnation of boredom, so boring that even smalltalk is over after half an hour and everyone just watches youtube shorts. Been there, done that. The only reason I sometimes do it for Gas or Gneiss in WHs is that it needs like 15 minutes to fill a Mackinaws Cargo and I can just hop into an own sub-squad, with having one rotating FC in the fleet that stays attentive and warps everyone out as soon as anything happens. So I get “paid” for just doing nothing. And not badly paid if doing it with multiple accounts. Other than that, the activity itself is so boring, I’d rather run head first into a wall repeatedly than spending my EVE time with “mining”. It’s the absolute worst anyone can do “actively”.

Some players enjoy mining. I’m not sure what led you to think that everyone has to think the exact same way you do. The only clones that exist of yourself are fiction in this video game. They don’t really exist. You’re not playing Eve in the Matrix with a thousand clones of yourself.
Mining isn’t about turning on your lasers and going out of the house for dinner and a movie. Low and Null sec venture miners do that. And Skiff pilots… they mine slowly. Most High Sec miners have other ■■■■ to do and worry about to keep up peak efficiency. Holds fill up, rocks get drained and vanish, drones need new targets, etc…
Now, granted- If they’d give Orcas strip miners and remove compression, you’d have a serious case for AFK mining because everyone would just fly Orcas for life. Their hold is so large that it would actually allow a miner to go out for dinner and a movie (or as you love to say, Alt-Tab and watch Netflix or YouTube).
Not everyone flies Skiffs. Most ice mine in Hulks especially if there’s an Orca on site.
Now gate camping is the most boring activity in Eve. And you better not be cracking beers and chatting with your friends or that ship that just came through will be warping to the next gate and already recloaked in under a second. To properly gate camp, you have to spend the entire time watching the grid with your finger on the target button. anything less and that covert ops ship is a ghost.
I don’t do it to be safe. I do it to be left alone. When I get home from work and boot up the game I just want to relax. Crack open a cold 1 listen to music or watch TV. I really don’t care about profit. I just want to relax.
I have played EvE off and on since 2012. I have tried this null corp and that null corp. Every time I try null they come off as entitled arrogant snobs. I don’t mind pvp and don’t care if I die yet I have NEVER gotten a null corp to participate in pvp.
I will happily sit in HS and brain rot mine while I relax after work.

I live in High Sec. I don’t run to it. I have run to null a few times. It never changes.

The only people that “live” in highsec are the people who are afraid to play the game, but since it’s known as a difficult game they think just playing it gives them some gamer cred.
You can state over and over that it’s not, but your max tank Orca only exists because the NPC police make it unprofitable to destroy it. If Concord didn’t exist, you wouldn’t play Eve, and everyone knows it.
