Ganking, or rather the Right to Gank

All CCP needed to do was model REALISTIC LAW ENFORCEMENT in HiSec…

  • make purposeful BUMPING the CRIMINAL AGGRESSION that it really is.

  • NOT allow criminals any refuge in HiSec. Not even in Pods… No Gate, No Station.

Rediculous to imagine a future society that has faster than light travel yet the cops can’t identify or keep track criminals in secured areas; nonsense!

I get plenty of gratification playing Eve…

Every time I play in my own way and make ISK, is a victory for me over the “Harden the F#ck Up” autocrats of CCP!

Let’s see how they harden themselves up to the new owner’s doctrines

EVE makes them plenty of money. CCP did not sell EVE, the investors who owned CCP sold the company. You are quite mistaken if you think this will change EVE into carebear wonderland now.

OFC It won’t!
You said so.
Several times …

I see how you attempted to snark off to ImaWreck, but then admitted you aren’t enjoying the game. So his/her original point stands.

On the most remote chance that you’re not someones alt just churning that delicious drama everyone loves… I gotta ask… You claim to love this game, and claim to have played for 10 years. But even before I first installed the game myself, I knew that it was an open sandbox PVP. I knew that. I knew from the drop that it was possible that I might login on my very first character and have it explode instantly.

I dabbled in it a teeny tiny bit. I mined for like, a day. I did some tutorial missions. I flew a starter ship to the Goons home system to get podded, and tried (unsuccessfully) to do it again. I talked with the folks in the Code Alliance a few times.

The point is… I realized that the game just wasn’t hooking me. Conversation about the game, the direction the game is going in, and the overall feel of it are still interesting to me, but I just wasn’t getting anything out of my play time.

Sometimes, I get into arguments with GalaxyLifeform, or ImaWreck. Sometimes I disagree with their stated motivations, or I point out things that I think are hypocritical. They respond by addressing some of my points as well, and pointing out where I have not taking the time to see things from their angle.

But YOU. You, Ho. You do what I would never do. You wish openly for the absolute destruction of their play style. You wish for a fundamental change in a game that you claim to both love and hate. When I realized that nothing was keeping me hooked into this game, I just let go. But I would never, ever… Wish to have the extremely unique system at play in this game altered. At all. And I would certainly never get my jollies out of telling someone else they could no longer do what they do.

I don’t know what all that says about me… But I know it makes you a pretty shitty person.

I think CCP know very well that this will kill it off. PvE in EVE is super horrible compared to what other games have. The real draw this game has is PvP and also the whole industry and market gameplay that is part of the whole cycle and has no meaning without conflict between players existing

Compared to what?

I know what you mean, but I don’t think that is something you can fix with game mechanics. The main reason why ganking is so easy is because the victim makes it easy. There are plenty of tools already to make it basically impossible to get ganked and it’s not like it is super difficult to figure that out.

If you adjust game mechanics you will at max just up the requirement for a ganker so we need more ships, but as in everything gaming that can be planed more or less it will be min/maxed and we will be back where we started. There is also the danger that this could remove the profession even further from the reach of smaller entities and basically let the big alliances monopolize it because of the amount of people and resources required.

I think it is pretty good balanced at the moment. I was expecting they nerf it more, but things where pretty quiet for a while now. We will see. I’m already prepared for some of the most commonly requested nerfs :sunglasses:

Well this has been discusses to the end multiple times over the years now. It’s not like we will change something by stating our disagreement multiple times. We will see if they ever change something about it.

Gosh I hope not. I always likened EvE to locking your car door at night. If someone wants to get into your car, they’re going to get in. There’s no foolproof method to secure your car. There are only deterrents, and making it unappealing.

Consequently, you would be the expert on this more than I, but I feel like if someone wants to gank you, they can get together a posse that is big enough and bad enough to get it done. At least I hope that’s possible. They may have to suffer some consequences themselves, but if the goal is simply to blap you… It can be done right?

I still havent seen a single argument against non-mutally agreed spaceship exloding that doesnt include swearing and/or some attempt to suggest its bad on “moral” grounds.

Is there even one?

Its interesting you should say that as pretty much everyone either online or irl Ive talked to about EvE has never mentioned the unsolicited antimatter insertions and doesnt give it a go because they believe its Excel in space.

I personally dont get why anyone would prefer to miss out on something due to forgetting a daily rather than from being out thought by a real person.

I think it’s less this, than it is what comes after that. I can’t get all that mad that I got blown up. But having someone act like a cock nugget afterwards, or deliberately try to spin me up after they beat me, would cause me to get frustrated with the game.

It doesn’t happen all the time, but like the “excel” thing, it is a reputation that EvE carries. Post-gank “surveys”, third party websites given over entirely to humiliating defeated foes, soundclouds, ect… Being beaten by a person might be better fun, but a daily isn’t going to mock you for forgetting it.

I cant say Ive experienced that more on EvE than on World of Tanks, FPSes or the like of LoL? Or even in sports irl?

Why would it bother you more just because its EvE?

To be quite honest, Ive seen far worse things said regularly by the loser in asymettrical engagements than the winner.

And I guess youve never needed the drop or reward in order to be included in the raid.

Oh, I definitely did not intend to structure my statement to imply that the loser never engaged in their fair share of abusive assholery.

And you are correct, there is usually at least a little ■■■■ talking after any engagement. (Exactly why that apparently needs to be the case is beyond me.)

I’m simply saying, EvE is the one with the biggest reputation for it that I know. Maybe it’s down to mechanics, but how many WoT players have a blog where they fashion themselves as the games “Joker”? (Introduce a little anarchy. Suddenly betrayal! Dear Blog, today I pissed off other players by pushing their buttons specifically in this way. Tomorrow I’ll write about how I did it again.)

I also don’t know any games with a similar controversy to the “bonus round” shenanigans of yesteryear. I know, I know… The person’s directly involved were banished, and Justice was served across the land, and yada yada yada… But those things tend to be remembered, and that’s where I feel like some people might either open up with hostility right off the bat, or avoid the game entirely to sidestep.

I work in the US Navy. One of my favorite things to do for PT is wallyball. Sometimes the other team absolutely creams us. There may be a little bit of ribbing, but generally speaking, there won’t be any blogs about it. There won’t be any third-party “tear collection” websites immortalizing my defeat forever and ever, for anyone who wants to go get a quick chuckle at my expense.

EvE is a hard game with hard people and hard rules. (Giggity x3) Online Games are always rife with toxic bs. EvE encourages that mindset a bit, which is its charm AND its curse.

I’m not arguing for it to changed. Just offering a thought on the “beaten by a player or a daily” statement.

And yes. I know the sting of being benched for RNG fuckery.

Well we willhave to agree to disagree. I clearly havent seen what ypuve seen and vice versa.

Ive never had anyone say they dont play EvE because it has PvP everywhere and people might be mean and you havent heard the majority of people say they arent playing because they think its boring and spreadsheets.

Im glad its not an argument, or that you want it changed but its very frustrating when I enjoy being at risk in the game to constantly hear comments saying the game would be better with the risk removed.

What is better about wanting all games to be push button, get pat on back?

Why am I to be denied games I enjoy?

As for the blogs… Tbh I dont think Ive read one that wasnt deserved. But Im sure theres stuff I would agree is beyond acceptable.

But if it was about me I wouldnt give a stuff. Im terribad at EvE and I dont care what anyone thinks about it.

I do not think that is yet happening in this game. And I hope it never does.

To be fair and clarify; it hasnt though some bits of it are starting to appear.

But there are certainly people voicing that wish, and using the reasoning that because EvE is different in this way, it cannot attract new players, or theres no money in it.

So when the next game that allows this level of freedom comes along (and if EvE does homogenise into a consolelike experience), will a future Fabulous Rod turn up to demand itvtoo changes to be a safe experience of press X to win?

P S I miss Zedrick Cayne. He taught me all I needed to know about how EvE was fun. Hell I even miss Joe Phoenix.

When the other team “creams” you, do you ■■■■■ and moan and accuse them of cheating and bullying? (Judging by your forum posts, my guess would be yes.)

You forget that the whole reason www.minerbumping.com exists is because of the childish way some EVE players behave when you best them at this game. If you behaved that way after losing at wallyball, you can bet that one of your Navy buddies would bust out a phone, record your tantrum and upload it.

Carebearism is the disease, The Code is the cure.
