It just starts popping up and evaluates your activities once you do enough of the most basic stuff like jumping stargates, enter different solar systems, mine something…
The achievement menu hides in the Paragon Services → Achievements folder in the neocom.
The biggest “achievement” I ever earned was when Goons sent apx 75 ships against our apx 40. We won. Does my only loss for our corp in the 1st Burn Jita while slaughtering Goons count? Sorry, I’m not perfect and lost the only ship in our corp.
As explorer with Gallente roots, Gerard chose to go back to those roots and make a long trip through all the high and low security systems with green nebulae.
Luckily the game is fantastic at keeping track of every system you’ve been in, so I had no issue figuring out which system was missing.
But seriously, the ‘Systems I’ve visited’ filter is pretty nice.
Even if the map doesn’t update the same day (which is why Essence still isn’t updated), I’m pleasantly surprised to see that the map isn’t too bad and does indeed show this information!
I have to say, this was the first achievement of the ones I did which I think is well designed. A nice trip through space sightseeing some parts of space.
I’m looking forward to extensions of it for other parts of space to not only fly in HS and LS.
Meanwhile I also automatically completed Stellar Exploration (visit 30 systems), which makes that one a bit redundant. I guess it’s a nice entry level achievement for newbies. And I made good progress towards Starbound (jump 1750 different stargates) which probably is automatically completed by doing three of the four faction spaces and thus feels redundant too.
On my way I added landmarks to my overview and completed Historic Wanderer (visit 20 landmark sites) as well, which I think was a nice touch and unlike the others I mentioned not redundant as I had to do something more than just warp from system to system like I already did.
Gerard cartographed all Federation space!
P.S.: As 350 > 295 I am now objectively better at the game than you @Arthur_Aihaken ! (Unless you also got more points in the mean time…)
Yeah, I love that one. And not only does it keep track of systems you’ve visited, but also how many times and the date of last visit. That is really fun to know, and sometimes even practical information.
Congrats on the achievement.
Just be careful not to drive that number up too high, or it might eat up the whole of your portrait space!
I thought I’d get the easy achievement ‘One Way Ticket’ done.
Fly to Exordium
Figure out where shipcaster actually is. (This was more troublesome than I thought and I had to search online to find the correct system. Hopefully newbies get more pointers?)
Jump shipcaster
??
New title!
But it turned out not to be so easy after all, because the game tells me this ship caster has already been used, while I clearly have not yet done that and have not yet completed the achievement that I would have had had I used this shipcaster:
I won’t deny I’m having fun with these things the last few days, but part of that is because I’m laughing at how badly balanced some of the achievements are.
Earning a measly 2.5 billion is the top tier ‘income’ achievement? 500 wrecks? Those numbers are peanuts. Too easy and I’m someone who doesn’t play the market. Even a new player is going to reach this well before they feel like a ‘Market Tycoon’.
But then on the other hand we’re expected to do 5000 combat sites, which is going to take significantly longer, or worse, expected to mine a massive 2.5 million units of ore on a character in a game where people are encouraged to make specialized side characters for such a thing. I realize 2.5 million may not be as much volume in Veldspar, but for people outside HS where rocks are larger this number is way out of proportion.
And then there’s just straight up bugs like the one above.
I have changed my opinion and think now that achievements can be good for this game, but they will require quite a bit more work before I can recommend them.
I want one for being annoying. I want an award for getting a soapbox emoji added. (if that ever happens) I want the veteran tag changed to something like old hand, seasoned, professional so there’s no mix up as to if I’m an actual rl vet.
After a green odyssey through Gallente space which showed me how incredible useful the map is in keeping track of all the systems I’ve been in, I decided to let that same map guide me to the systems I had not yet visited to make my trip through Caldari space far more efficient to minimize the time I had to spend in this blue Caldari part of space!
I guess the game can keep track of all the systems I have visited, but for some very strange and questionable reason keeps a different list for the achievement that also tracks all the systems I have visited more recently. For some reason that second list cannot read the first list, so now I have to visit all of that hideous, nasty ugly smelly blue Caldari space again in order to get the points to show that I am playing the game the right way.
Hours clicked in project discovery well past the Marshal blueprint I already had, so without any meaningful reward. Hours spent dueling alts just to get a dent in ‘1200 duels’ with no points yet to show for it as that takes days, weeks longer. And hours spent flying through Caldari space with nothing to show for it. And why do I do this? All because the game tells me this is the right way to play?
Maybe I do not want to play the game the right way after all.
Keep your points and your repetitive and bugged meaningless high sec grinds, I’m going back to null sec to play some EVE.
Gerard is done gaining achievements.
P.S.: Could we please get a setting to hide these points from our character window?
If i weren’t in a situation where i could just completely disable it from being shown, i wouldn’t even speak up and just silently ignore it.
It is fine with me if people willingly want to subject themselves to whatever artificial goals and things like that, but there is always this slight thing or oversight that shoves the stuff into everyone throats, whether they like it or not.
I learned how to play EVE when i was officially told by the developers that the game is about setting and achieving your own goals. Maybe and possibly contrary to common societal developments, i am still cognitively capable in doing so.
Therefore FC please give an option to remove that achievements points number from my character info page.
The weirdest thing about that is that you can actually choose whether to show those achievement ‘‘titles’’ on your character info or not. Perfectly hideable. But not the overall score. That seems to be such an essential number attached to your character that there is no option to get rid of it.
