For an expensive pirate ship that’s a good amount of dps. With good skills you can reach very high dps on T1 Cruisers, I can push effective 400-550 dps with T1 and faction Cruisers with my skills, which are four or three times cheaper. The short and long range dps is an advantage of Drones similarly to missiles, with its limitations. The point is that you need over 600 dps in T4 to not fail the timer for the worst spawn scenarios.
Abyss dps recommendstions:
over 200 dps in T1;
over 400 dps in T2 to survive the 2 Vedmaks spawn;
over 500 dps in T3 to survive Triglavian spawns or big BS spawn timers;
over 600 dps in T4;
close to or over 700 dps (possible overheated) in T5.
This is a general dps recommendation in case if you are using the cheapest required Cruiser for each Tier. Tanking abilities, Boosters and Implants can change the table a bit. Three or even two Vedmaks should be killed as fast as possible even in a Gila, because after 30 sec each of them striking for 700-1000 damage by slowly breaking your tank.
By applying my understanding of turret mechanics, swapping ammo when necessary to get better range and tracking, a generous application of webbing, delicate prop mod control, and skilful piloting in general. Basically, I took what I learned doing PVP, and applied it to running Abyssals. A dual rep Deimos with an Exile booster in cargo and a full HG Asklepian set is a force to be reckoned with if you know what you’re doing, and I just happen to know what I’m doing.
One ship or another is always going to be “best” for specific PvE contents.
Gila happens to be very robust, good dps, drones have huge tank, easy to fly, and drones are good for avoiding ewar that shuts down turret/missile ships.
I think the large proportion of Gilas shown in the killmails is also that Gilas are what many players are comfortable with and have skilled into extensively for other PvE, so they naturally prefer to fly them into Abyss as well.
It doesnt really matter what ship people use to fly the PvE content, as long as the stats/performance arent OP in PvP also.
Until completly bonkers, balance in this game only matters in PVP generally.
And a Gila dies quick enough if you know what your doing in PVP.
Nerving the Gila because Abyss would be…stupid. People would just switch to HACs. Its the same laughable discussion with supercarriers. Yeah. Nerv their stats instead of making PVE-content for them. Have fun with more Titans in PVP I guess… Ideas like that are just nuts most of the time.
And not that much of players will care about Abyssal Deadspace after the event. Because the loot will be worth just peanuts.
Not a bad idea, although I doubt it will happen, as the choice of the Gila is not just its dps and ehp bonused drones, but also that it has the resistances and can fit the tank needed. One of the reasons we don’t see much variety in Tier5 use of ships is that most Cruisers simply either don’t have the survivability or the damage and application needed (to not die to the timer), in many cases they lack both. Maybe it has to do with how most ships are balanced around PVP and the idea that you have to fight 20 minutes solo in a HIC bubble against a gang was never a design idea. If you want to see less Gilas without seeing less people running the sites, it needs another approach. Otherwise people will just switch to the Sacrilege entirely.
Gilas are OP for PvE.
But thats nominally ok, as it doesnt “hurt” anyone.
I wish there was more potential for variety, especially to increase demand for other ships, but Drone ships are very good for PvE (to my huge chagrin as a projectile lover… They work, but involve far more manual pilotting and clicking…)
Agreed. I mean, flying a Gila is basically like flying one cruiser with good tank and launch two faster Cruisers who do the damage for you. Like… one of my Drones does more damage and is (much) harder to kill than most T1 Cruisers (with all their weapons).
I’m not sure if people are purposely asking it. It’s that they are asking for it in the sense that CCP tends to nerf any ship when it becomes too popular.
I do not ask to nerf GIla. Exactly opposite. I want it to stay as it is. I want to buff NPC in Abyss with new anti-drone ECM so CCP will not urge to fix current Abyss state by nerfing that good ship Gila is now. I am not sure if you noticed, but there is new balance pass comming. And I want to save Gila from it.
Major nerf needed for the Gila, way to powerful. If players switch to Ishtars, that is fine. At least it requires some actual skills to fly, ie cruiser V compared to the ridiculously low skills for a Gila.
Simply remove the thermal damage bonus and only leave the kinetic damage bonus of drones. The bonus to thermal damage, when the thermal damage drones are already the strongest drones, is a part of what causes the high popularity.
Or make it into a uniform bonus, only slightly weaker.
