Heron
[Lore sourced from Frigates of EVE book]
Current Description
The Heron has good computer and electronic systems, giving it the option of participating in electronic warfare. But it has relatively poor defenses and limited weaponry, so it’s more commonly used for scouting and exploration.
Submission Description
Designed by the Ishukone Corporation, the Heron would immediately enter service with the Caldari Navy as a reconnaissance vessel astrometric acquisition platform. Typically to undertake high-risk reconnaissance missions deep into hostile territory. It would later be adopted by the Capsuleer markets as a vessel perfect for the aspiring explorer.
Having very limited combat functionality, the Heron is not a suitable frigate for frontline combat, having only two hard points for missile systems or hybrid turrets, and a bandwidth to support three light scout drones for basic self defence. That said, in the hands of an experienced combat pilot - a properly fitted “Battle Heron” can provide a challenging fight.
However, Herons are more commonly used as astrometric platforms by independent Capsuleers looking to hunt down cosmic signatures. With Both a spare high-slot to slide in a probe launcher and quite possibly the most sophisticated gravimetric sensor suites to ever be fitted to a frigate - the Heron is an ideal frigate for any pilot looking to explore the unknown with core probes - OR - track down their opposition though the use of combat probes.
As an addition, with the help of a quantum microprocessor mainframe, the heron can boost the virus strength of data and relic analyzers, giving pilots an edge in cracking open derelict ships or pirate mainframes out in space. With a respectable cargo hold to store any goods uncovered.
