Current Description
The Merlin is the most powerful combat frigate of the Caldari. Its role has evolved through the years, and while its defenses have always remained exceptionally strong for a Caldari vessel, its offensive capabilities have evolved from versatile, jack-of-all-trades attack patterns into focused and deadly gunfire tactics. The Merlin’s primary aim is to have its turrets punch holes in opponents’ hulls.
Submission Description
The Merlin is the perfect combat frigate for the pilot looking for something clean-cut. Ain’t no goofy gimmicks here - The Merlin is the no-nonsense grunt of the Caldari frigates, sporting both excellent firepower and steadfast defences.
Designed by the Ishukone Corporation, the merlin was to be a durable lightweight platform for hybrid weapon systems, the Merlin would become the ideal frigate in any frontline engagement due to it’s sturdy defensive abilities and damage output with either three railgun or blaster turrets. It would quickly be adopted by other Corporate forces of the State, such as the Lai Dai Protection Service and Home Guard. As well as “borrowed” and “improved” on by the Guristas for their Worm design.
A drawback of this ship lies in its speed. Compared to other frigates of Caldari design, and Merlin takes the title as the slowest and generally used more for close range brawling engagements. That said, being able to fit in railguns, the Merlin is more than capable of eliminating targets at range, without having to sacrifice any of it’s defensive edge.
