Been awhile since I last played eve… About 6 years…
Funny Story time:
Turns out, Guristas are protected by concord lol… Ran a site in a .6 system… Decided after clearing it out that I should pop the structures too for the fun and cool explosion effects… Something I haven’t seen in years lol
Welp, lets say, I wasn’t disappointed… Concord came in and pop’d me lol
No, I didn’t hit another player, nor was I running smartbombs… I attacked a guristas structure with warrior II’s and thats all it took…
So be warned when running sites… If you already know that guristas are protected by concord, then you already know… It’s news to me… lol
Well, it’s definitely unfortunate that happened but I’m sure there’s another reason of why it happen…
First of all, shooting NPC structures in mission / exploration sites does not bring in Concord… I know that for a fact because I do it all the time… There must have been something else there, like possibly a player owned Mobile Structure…
Anyway, it’s a good idea to make multiple Overview tab’s with one named ‘Everything’, that way you can see exactly what’s there on-grid with you…
There’s very little reason to have safeties on red if you aren’t looking to intentionally lose your ship to CONCORD.
Safety settings exist for this purpose, they save you from taking actions that may be OK anywhere else in space but trigger the wrath of CONCORD in HS space.
Yellow is what my safeties usually are at. This allows me to do as much as possible like activating filaments, looting and shooting in most parts of space but also prevents silly HS rules to cause a sudden forceful disassembly of my ship the rare few times I find myself in that part of space.
Even if you aren’t planning to gank, having your Safety on red is a status symbol and a sign of worth. Only carebears hide on lower settings, and all self-respecting capsuleers want to be on red.
When it comes to the fine details of HS engagement mechanics I feel like a newbie, so I’m happy to be a carebear.
I’m rarely in HS and the few times I am I don’t wish to lose my ship to some silly HS rule I didn’t know just because I’m used to being able to shoot whoever wherever I want outside HS.
Luckily nobody can see my safety settings so they won’t know I’m a carebear when it comes to silly HS rules.
It’s fun to see the mistakes of fellow null sec players in rare HS fleets who clearly demonstrate that they are no carebears.
I’ve had to set my safety to red to shoot some pods for fun in LS. No CONCORD came to destroy my ship, at least not if I did not jump into HS in the next 15 minutes.
But it’s true, there rarely is a good reason to fly with red safeties if you’re not a suicide ganker.
Very unlikely that you shot what you think you shot, tbh. If you can find the combat log (…Documents\EVE\logs\Gamelogs) it might be possible to tell what happened.
There are plenty of missions with structures like “Mining Colony” sitting in the middle of the site. The objective rarely tells you to shoot those specific structures. Just because it’s there does not mean it’s part of the mission.
Not all mission structures can be destroyed, CCP has made some of them invulnerable… Shooting those won’t register any damage and they definitely won’t invoke Concord…
However the ones that can be destroyed have a random chance to drop loot, mainly Trade Goods / Materials, some drop munitions and every once in a while will even drop a module…
Long ago, almost all mission and exploration site structures would drop various materials, most of which has now been switched over to Planetary Industry… Those items were also available in NPC Market sell orders… In fact the NPC Buy/Sell Market content is still active in-game…
Anyway, as I mentioned earlier, the OP must have accidently shot something belonging to a player, possibly a Mobile Depot or Mobile Tractor Unit…
With that bring said , let’s look back at the TTT keepstar were many Goons forgot that they were in Highsec shooting at other pilots thinking that it was normal.
Not necessarily. Some missions do have CONCORD protected structures. I can’t exactly remember which ones, they are rare, but I know that they are there. It’s probably some legacy code that everyone forgot about.
