If some had not questionable goals, you would also have no goals…
Whatever brings you fun is a valid goal. If you get ganked and have no fun anymore you need a new goal…or indeed you stop playing and “win” EVE. Winning EVE means you have lost all the fun in playing it.
Then it was a misunderstanding…you referred to the game itself with your “win” statement and not individual goals in the game.
In that case i am fine.
However then i am again wondering about your previous reply, because that is exactly what i wrote: set your goals, achieve them, have fun doing so whatever the goal is.
I agree. Us regular clowns as least post on chars that play the game…whereas now we have a flurry of ’ I’m an alt, but my real EVE char is CEO of Supermassive Nullblocs ‘R Us’ type posters with zero evidence of ever having undocked.
Don’t forget the ‘I’m-friends-with-Fenris-devs-and-CEO-and-they-slip-me-secret-information-about-the-game’ types. I don’t know about you, but I’m totally buying what they’re saying.
In my opinion, the monthly economic report does not look healthy. Too much emphasis on making ISK and hoarding resources (ISK included). So many players have spreadsheets calculating their ISK efficiency. Math and accounting games do not interest me. Creative games interest me.
There is enough creativity and game content in Eve to draw my interest. However, the game entertainment value is marginal overall. Enjoy flying the battleships against PVE content and also mining. What do I undock daily? Standard shuttles matching the character’s empire.
For efficiency, I have a fully-researched Caldari Shuttle blueprint original. The other 3 empire shuttle BPO’s have research jobs in progress. What does this suggest? For most undocks, I am risking approximately 2500 Tritanium (worth 9.4k ISK) and 54 minutes of production time. This is the most efficient way to make 3 jumps daily.
Much more fun to undock millions or billions invested into 1 ship. There is nothing entertaining about 3 shuttle jumps and clicking “complete” for the daily. Its just another grind.
Health of the economy… what CCP has on sale in stores and how much PLEX is sold is probably the most important factors in today’s economy. This concept is the problem I watch, but its none of my business and CCP has all the data that we don’t. Mass inflation needs an ISK sink. Considering that CCP needs to balance real life profit with our in-game economy, I’d have to say it’s in a reasonable state. Good job actually. There are many specific issues that should be corrected, but overall it is fine.
Isk Sink? I’d rather talk about measuring how much destruction happens in a month is not the best data for CCP to be looking at. They need to be looking at how it’s created as different activities in game. For example, just because there was a fleet fight between 3,000 pilots and did 2 tril in destruction, does not mean all this didn’t have an opportunity cost. The opportunity you guys are missing is that the destruction needs to be spread out between the most people in different groups… we dont want a tall fortress.
Another example, the largest war ever fought in highsec had a cost. The cost was that no other real war happens at all anymore. It’s go big or go home, and that’s terrible for new players and the vast majority of others imo. Just like in nullsec when you guys basically forced the most people into two opposing groups until one of them fell apart. Consider that it might be better for all with more choices and opportunities. A great choice to make moves toward anti-coalitions with in-game mechanics. Think about this… you want newbs to come into the game and be adopted by some vets, right? Ok, so give the most vets the ability to make ISK and create jobs for these newbs inside of player owned corps. Hand over the job of creating content back to the CEO. Not your RP department working on some NPC/PvE junk. Warcraft fell apart when guilds lost their value. Same thing here. People should be emotionally connected to the issues they log in for. You will never get this using log-in dailies, but you will certainly have log in data… along with a substandard product. Don’t turn this 1-star Michelin into a McDonalds plz.
You guys should start measuring your success in less of a macro view and start thinking about small scale competition to the current monopolies. Let things be player-driven and celebrate that.
My take on this is such. CEOs and players, because of FCs creation of the ideals of “be the villain”, do just that. Any new fodder, and I use that term meaningfully, is just that. FCs original design elements also create the reality that, most often, there are exceptions, of course, that create content that only serves themselves and not the greater growth potential of the game. This is where I think Eve’s unique design shoots itself in the foot.
For this to work we would need to see a resurgence in ground up player mentality where you actually value your line members and dont just auto-play the villain. Yet ironically then we create a different problem of bottom feeders, players who just use the help for themselves and get rich/successful and bleed corp/alliance resources.
So as much as I would love to see more of this implemented I find it hard to see if becoming a huge thing. When players lament that the Freelance missions are just traps and suckers plays you see the threads of why it never gets truly popular.
You make a great point with very insightful info. You seem to have a lot of experience.
I would hope that the ability to make isk for the CEO means he is controlling something like a limited resource. For highsec, id love to see this more. For nullsec its already happening but with too much a direct payment line by ccp to the alliance leader. But let me tell you something else: ISK doesnt get you ■■■■ anymore. ISK doesnt buy power; being rich is simply the ground level now. We need more than ISK, so I guess its the ability to hold power the small guy needs more of. A guy in another thread mentioned highsec islands with trade hubs. Good idea, but I would do it with limited resources placed in certain places that alliances and large groups would have no ability to simply own forever uncontested.
To do this… i need to convince people that war hqs are the largest reason for the chokehold on development from the bottom. Good luck? To fix that issue, you need to fix wars, holding corps…its a fkn mess. My hope is that a smart and creative dev picks the most important thing and just dives in.
We need ship vs ship combat too not buildings… but in nullsec they get bonuses to the system based on ownership right? Why cant we have that in highsec? Just an idea. Make a reason for pilots to have ships in space and the ability for it to create fights between those ships. Not buildings and blobs. Make it corp based too, not solo pilots who have no friends. Share common goals instead.
I run a lot of freelance jobs, courier jobs, that sort of thing. I work directly with lots of solo style players and also small corps. I basically create pathways for solo pilots to do bigger things from the bottom because there is nothing else. But the thing the pilots actually need is not me and a solo career. New pilots need a good CEO and people to fly with him.
