I do think you’re onto something though, Highsec and the NPE are 100% tied together, whether intentional or not
I’ve found it incredibly hard to break out of highsec… the only option it seems is to join an established corp, which will more often than not just hand you ships and resources… why play if I’m going to be just handed everything?
Like… I remember my first experience with this game was joining a corp, and mining in high sec… I asked about manufacturing, assuming refined goods would get more money, and was met with “no dude you just wanna mine, you get more isk that way”
…and I also sit there staring at a screensaver instead of playing a game about forging your path in the universe
Maybe the problem is us, the player base… we’re too technical, and scare new players off easily
Too many people, like the corp members you menationabout telling you mining is worth more than other industry, simply believe what they are told by others and never try to find out things for themselves.
Yeah, honestly I don’t think new players should join a corp until they actually meet people and get involved or form their own goal
I’m just looking for a small group, but it seems impossibly hard to find A) Players nearby my location who are B) looking for a wingman and C) aren’t going to just hand me the most expensive equipment to “help”
Sometimes it’s just more fun to fly solo, and that’s sad in a game this big and wide. I’d like to see more “small scale” fleet features, like being able to turn on a “beacon” which indicates you’re looking for a group without having to chat up randos in local. (For all I know, such a feature actually exists and I just haven’t found it yet lol)
Tbh that iI always found the first issue, you need to be willing to relocate, after all if you were looking for roams for example, youd need to be able to move to the staging point anyway.
TBH I used Corp finder and looked for folk that way. But basically chatting to randos, or being friendly is often enough to find a good group before long. No one genuine will ask you for anything if you are wanting to join in on fleets.
I wouldn’t say it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, but you can start a public fleet and advertize the location of it, last I looked. I think the fleet can have a comment of some kind to indicate what its for.
Take the blinders off and use the map to plan a travel route through low and into null.
Or use the Triglavian filaments to jump into Null raid a few ESS then jump into Trig/HSS then another back into High Sec Space.
Using the excuse of needing to be in a corporation as the reason for going deeper into New Eden is exactly why CCP needs to add a “Grow a Pair” skill with Accelerator Plug In.
Solid advice, though I’m not sure you catch my drift. When I say “break out of highsec”, I’m talking about with some sense of permanency (without just joining a megacorp)
I’ve been playing on and off since 2013, I have never exceeded 20,000,000 ISK. It feels like any time I try to do something more than mining, exploring, or light combat, I get wrecked immediately. I’m well aware of “don’t fly what you can 't afford to lose”, the problem is anything I can afford to lose doesn’t stand a chance against most threats I find. I guess the real issue I’m having is I don’t know how to gauge an NPCs strength aside from looking up the name in a database somewhere, which by time I get a result, I’m dead lol
I imagine this feeling is similar among many new players. I’m just a special case cause I’m not new, just probably dumb lol
But maybe that’s the charm of the game, I certainly wouldn’t be so interested if it wasn’t so challenging.
No it’s not if both parties have a healthy mental mindset which people that find it ‘fun’ having to avoid people whose only goal is to annoy you and make your life miserable HINDER you in having appropiate fun obviously not have.
There are no two opinions about that and no discussion is needed about definitions of fun.
There is no need to care there only is the need of getting rid of toxic behaviour like that once and for all in this game.
Ban them into the ground is the only language those people understand and this is what ccp should do.
Whatever they are, as I am sure what counts as “normal” differs for everyone.
From my abnormal viewpoint, “normal” seems to be work an 8 hour day and relax in front of the TV.
Certainly I’ve always had to detail what EVE is when talking to “normal” people.
Have you ever played a team sport? The primary purpose of the other team is to hinder you from winning; yet pretty much everybody who plays team sports considers them to be fun. The same can be said of pretty much any leisure activity that involves people trying to beat each other.
TL;DR you don’t get to dictate what fun is to other people; because it is entirely subjective, not objective.
