The time to think about ‘consequences’ is not after you’ve been ganked, but before you even set off with your freighter. You get ganked directly as a result of you not thinking about the ‘consequences’ of your particular ship, your particular fitting, your particular route, whether you scouted or not, and so on. Being ganked is itself a ‘consequence’….so stop trying to shift the blame.
Are you 100% sure about it? I tried to escort freighter through lowsec with webbing alt once and it didn’t work (I used Sunesis, webbed it but it got stiil caught by Rapier that landed after we jumped). It didn’t work for this guy either:
Dude I wanted to send me link to latest empty freighter gank because I am lazy. You posted a 2 months old one. What I wrote was assuming that there weren’t any empty freighters ganked earlier.
That being said. This is not common at all - some of us are rich enough to afford it especially when multiple players are involved, but even if catalysts are used it still isn’t cheap content to do.
So when the empty/low value freighter is ganked it will be one of these reasons:
- it wasn’t empty when it was scanned 2 jumps ahead
- it dropped cargo during a gank
- freighter pilot took “public courier bait” which is a package tailored so pilot needs to use 3x expanded cargohold, collaterall is 2b+ and actual value of the cargo is less than 200m
- the pilot was rude to the gankers and they wanted to teach him a lesson
- pilot is known loot piňata and gankers wants to extort him and killing even empty freighter is their way to make him pay for permit
- pilot is neutral alt of their enemies/competition or someone else put a bounty on his head and asked gankers to kill him
- stream sniping (Safety is known for that specifically)
That being said, from the kills you posted it seems that this new group in Aufay that I never heard of before is killing any freighter that they can regardless of value. They probably have enough ISK and they just want to kill freighters.
Hint: hecate with implants insta warps
I am not sure if you read it or you stopped reading at the word Sunesis. Sunesis was not the problem, wasn’t even lost. It was freighter that the Sunesis was webbing.
Only think I can think off is using a single web and/or doing it too late. Sunesis is pretty much at fault here, you want double web to apply almost immediately after the freighter initiated warp, which unless you are incredibly luck to be in range won’t happen with a Sunesis. I typically used a Hyena with a sensor booster and two webs for that. And avoid Minmatar region gates which are enormous without a Loki/Rapier…
How do you reconcile your assertion that it is “unviable” with the continued presence and operation of freighters in high sec year after year?
These seem to be explicitly at odds with each other.
Yeah approach works. Quicker to just spawn in range tho
This guy didnt web until I was already attacking him.
And just for clarity I killed this guy because he was talking so much smack in local, wouldn’t have killed him for that value otherwise.
ok thanks for clarification
Yes I used single t1 meta web back then as far as I remember.
Would improving the alignment times help fix the issue? Or is the whole point to force people to buy multiple accounts to do anything in the game?
There is no issue
While short sighted for their business, CCP has always supported Ganking and always ignored those who suffer the loss. Never blame the Gankers for something CCP encourages. Many gank empty freighters just for the kill. Most are large alliances that give free ships and do it to provide “content”.
- CCP added Security Tags to the game so that you can just pay isk to reset your security status. This one act more clearly demonstrates CCP’s intentions than any other in the game.
- CCP implemented a mechanism for Concord that allows you to Pull them away from a gate, allowing gankers the Maximum possible time on target before Concord can respond. This mechanism doesn’t have to work this way and it again clearly demonstrates CCP’s intent.
This ‘maximum possible time’ is the normal default response time.
Are you really complaining that when people can pull CONCORD to a grid to shorten the response time, other people can pull CONCORD too to get back to the normal response time?
There’s a room in CCP headquarters where they manufacture a replica model of each mining ship that gets ganked, containing miniature figures for the crew and capsuleer, and they even include little inventory items (like cotton balls for gas and grains of sand for ore) and then they take this model and bash it with a hammer until it’s reduced to plastic splinters which they throw into a volcano. That, more than anything, demonstrates their attitude toward ganking.
Just because the players who do it have learned both the most efficient way to do something and the best way to mitigate the penalties, doesn’t mean this is true. CCP has repeatedly and severely nerfed ganking over the years, so if you’re dumb enough to lose a freighter in highsec from the only risk you face flying one in highsec, that’s wholly and entirely YOUR fault.
You know what takes no effort? Loading 10 Billion ISK worth of cargo into a hauler and autopiloting 60 jumps across highsec while you watch Netflix. Gankers are literally the only thing preventing you from doing that.
You know what takes no effort? Multiboxing a dozen Hulks and an Orca into a highsec asteroid belt and sucking up resources like a $2 prostitute. Ganking is literally the only thing preventing you from doing that.
I’ve got two freighter alts, neither of which has ever lost a freighter in Highsec because I learned how to mitigate the minuscule amount of risk that does exist because of gankers.
CCP has “revisited” ganking dozens of times over the years, with repeated nerfs at every turn. At this point, if you get ganked, the problem exists entirely between your chair and keyboard.
It used to be quite common for some of the Nullsec Coalitions to go on ganking sprees in Highsec, where they’d specifically target every freighter or mining ship they came across. I would be astonished if this didn’t still happen.
I know, that is how little content there is in null…
