This is a great idea, because I had the idea and second, because its a great idea.
Take the Proving Grounds Arena for Abyssal Space.
After every sentence? Box of tears for ya, maybe a whole pallet of tears, better yet, get a warehouse and then become the primary investor and owner.
Place the Proving Ground Arena in a High Sec solar system.
Allow players to purchase entrance tickets for the arena. Each arena will be of varied size, one for frigates to cruisers, one for destroyers to bc and one for cruisers to battleship.
When the players enter the arena, there would be a two minute period before fighting can begin. Once the timer runs out, the teams, upto four teams of 2, or eight solo players, the players can engage each other for 15 minutes or until all ships are eliminated. A points board for total damage, alpha strikes and drone damage would be seen by spectators.
Podding is expected.
Once the timer runs out, the arena becomes closed to any fighting and the participants exit the arena.
The PvP Arena would be static as well as traveling around High Sec with dates displayed on the Bilkboard.
Sec Status in the arena would be 0.0
Its TurrrsdayâŚtime to clean the brain out, its sssso ossss, in the arena.
Yes, itâs a great idea. Not an original idea, mind you - but a great idea. So Iâm giving you a like - because I think an âarenaâ style combat area in high-sec would be very well-received by players.
The only way to do it âfairâ would be to instance it, have a selection of pre-built ships, and restricted pre-set skills. Everyone has the same ships, loadouts, and skills. The deciding factor would then be how good you are at operating that ship.
My first thought about this proposal was that it had absolutely nothing to do with me or my activities in the game. I live in Highsec, but my interests are by now well-defined and immune from the sort of innovation proposed, above.
My second thought came with a smile. I tried to get a feel for how popular an arena-style feature would be in a region like Highsec. I feel it would be somewhat less than âhotâ. I mean, this is total guesswork (no stats, alas), but does the OP think it would be popular?
As QuakeGod said, genuinely fair fights do not seem to be the fuel which drives the cogs of EVE. In Highsec, even the Duel is largely neglected, and the Limited Engagement feature is often the outcome of a canny and clever baiting strategy performed by one of my rascally friends.
So, Dryson, will the Highsec Arena feature be a hit?
I had a friend who, years ago, way back at the dawn of skill point trading, did this in highsec. He ran a âfight clubâ, if I remember correctly, every Friday night.
He had rules regarding fits, and scanned ships before competition. He offered prizes, funded by skill point trading, and considered it a success. (He also ran a trivia game channel.)
I remember in particular one conversation regarding ganking, at his âarenaâ, pros, cons, and publicity. I donât know exactly what happened; but his âgankerâ turned out to be an independent unaffiliated with CODE, I think.
So, this is doable, with an enthusiastic organizer already. (Who also has deep pockets.)
A player with enough ISK or even a group of people sometimes called a group, could purchase PvP arenas and then charge ISK for PvP fights.
A container at each entry point into the arena would allow event viewers to donate ISK, to help support the fighters and arena owner. And and if their fighter wins, I tell ya, if their fighters win, then ISK would be given to them as a Thank You for supporting their fight.
I think this idea could actually fcing work.
Place several of the arenas in Jita and charge ISK.
Oh and gankers, trying to gank at any PvP Arena Event would see you removed, permanently, from the game.
Itâs a good example that inventive players can enforce arena rules and tempt people with prices if theyâre interested in running a PvP arena âfight clubâ.
No need for game-defined instanced arenas, just good use of existing features. Just like a sandbox should be!
Just asking, Dryson; how will this be policed? CONCORD are already with us, anti-gankers are failing, daily; a permanent exclusion can only be handed down by CCP (have you given them the heads-up?). Or, just like the idea itself, will it be an emergent gameplay type of thing?
