From the perspective of using macros, would this not make it easier for the server to detect actual use of macros vs the use of a game mechanic? If the server can detect client-side inputs, is it able to differentiate between what is in-game vs what is extrenal software? With AI, yes it would absolutely get better at detecting the difference.
As far as CCP caring, they probably do care. Just because you don’t see it happening doesn’t mean that it’s not. If it’s out of public focus, then getting banned as a result of it would not always have to make the spotlight either.
Even with macros breaking ToS, I’m pretty sure allowing the feature of grouping other modules won’t break the game neither will it increase macro users. Certainly, some things will be improved and a few consequences will have to be dealt with. And with macros, this feature will at least lessen the use of them - because not all people who use macros are cheaters. With this feature in particular, there will be no need to use macros specifically with grouped modules, which I’m pretty sure is not the majority use of macros either, not to mention all the other ways players can cheat.
As far as automation itself goes, the line is arbitrary. There are literal games where automation is the feature. Of course EVE is not that, but this one feature will not impact the game in that way. For most people, it’s just going to be a Quality-of-Life improvement, and if you don’t want to use it, then don’t use it. Just because you can think up of 1,001 different ways it can be bad doesn’t mean it will actually go in that direction - or that the feature is inherently bad and restricting all users to a game without the feature is inherently good.
And I guess I’ll add that if you gotta cheat in EVE to feel good or something, please just find something else more worthwhile. I put this in the forums because I genuinely believe it will make the game better and more flexible for most people - which if it gets more attention, may well actually be one of considerable debate. Cheaters will always be around; that is no excuse to stop potential progress.
How long has weapon grouping been a thing? Clearly CCP disagrees with you, because what you want was asked for since about 1.2s after weapon grouping was introduced.
Clearly you haven’t been playing this game for more than a couple of days. CCP has been changing and altering this game back and forth all over the place since it came out. Saying, “Clearly CCP doesn’t agree with you since it’s not a thing” is not a defense against an idea because very little about this game is the same as it was on day 1.
CCP thinks that Null Sec should not have Local and only put it back rather than say goodbye to half the player base.
Yes, CCP makes changes all the time, that’s completely irrelevant to this.
But with a 20 year history of people asking for this exact same thing, the pattern of behavior says that CCP doesn’t agree with you.
Your example doesn’t apply here. CCP also once thought a high priced monocle was a good idea to the same result. No one is going to quit if CCP adds this, and it’s disingenuous to suggest they would. Can you show me any post, anywhere, by anyone in CCP that shows support for this idea? Because I can point to a 20+ year pattern of behavior that says they don’t.
Doesn’t apply. Completely irrelevant. CCP has made several changes without posting about it on the forums or clearing it with you first. You’re not that important.
Ok, now it is not good to devolve into insults - I am genuinely trying to request for a change and not cause a stifle here. Just read the original post and if you don’t like it, you just disagree and it’s as simple as that. Reasons, of course, make one’s argument better.
As far as “CCP not agreeing with me” - I actually sent this suggesstion to their support email and they encouraged me to post it in the forums here. Of course, that doesn’t mean they automatically agreed with the few suggestions I sent them, but that also means they didn’t disagree, probably because they wanted to see how far this conversation would go. I honestly thought this topic would die in the dust barely getting any attention - so whatever attention it did get clearly shows that a few people care enough to share their opinion.
Just think about it - a few players already said that if CCP implemented this change, they would not leave the game or cry tears over it. They have shared how, in their opinion, it is a net negative to the game. I and a few others, in our opinion, see it as a net positive. Additionally, this change is not something that is forced onto players, but gives them the option and flexibility to, in some people’s opinion, have a more convenient and better interaction with the UI as a result of it. If it makes playing the game worse, then they can decide if they even want to use it or not. Anyway it seems you’ve made your point clear, so we can agree to disagree.
