Highsec Ganking Dead - Are you happy now?

So this is not pvp?

but both parties did participate in the fight, one of the basic rules of EVE is you consent to pvp when you undock, how is it the fault of the gankers if the one ganked was afk and /or poorly fit. 99.999% of the people that undock are not ganked as they were not afk and were fit appropriate to the local risk.

you really have to screw up badly to be ganked.

PvP focused players frequently engage in PvE activities to fund the fighting. PvE only players don’t contribute to the player combat aspect of the game that drives everything else.

There’s no point in us continuing this debate. You know the difference between someone sitting there unarmed being shot and someone being ready and able to fight back. You know the difference between what gets called “non-consensual PvP” and “consensual PvP”. But it’s easier for you too distract from having to make any real points by feigning ignorance, so we’ll never get anywhere.

CCP will do what CCP will do, adapt to it or don’t, your call.

there is no problem continuing this debate as adults ,accepting we have differing views that may never be reconciled . we both feel our views are valid (of course goes without saying mine are  ) and as you say ccp will do what ccp will do and our protestations have little effect.

but the idea that someone can undock in a ■■■■ fit ship in a full loot mmorpg with a reputation that eve has and not expect to die or be affected by the actions of someone else is wrong in so many ways.

An unarmed ship intentionally running a gatecamp is not pvp?

Good thing I haven’t even suggested that shouldn’t be a thing then. Just that CCP care more about good content than the content a very small group of risk averse players farming kills in highsec.

Semi-AFK mining while watching Netflix or auto-piloting a freighter from A to B isn’t good content, yet that’s what CCP has chosen to make easier.

CCP seem that have a vision lately that highsec is for training wheels and then when people are ready, they should move to lowsec and nullsec.

However, as usual, the community has thumbed their nose at that idea and many regard highsec as an end-game destination; yet, CCP have headed in a direction that makes it easier for veterans in highsec to play in an extremely disengaged way.

After a decade of poor decision making, they are still just trying the same thing - simplify and remove gameplay.

For CCP and the player doing it it’s good content. It’s not disrupting anyone else’s gameplay and it’s someone paying CCP while having almost no impact on anything else. Of course they want more of that.

I prefer PvP, and I get PvP pretty much every day. It doesn’t matter to me if someone wants to mine veldspar all day.

The last “good” content that this game had was the Triglavian invasions.

It was so awesome. The system shutdown, the fact that you could biff it just undocking!

But, per the usual crowd, crying and whining that “high sec should be completely safe” put an end to that.

AG was dead before these changes, because that playstyle had already been nerfed to death before. So my answer is basically “No issue because AG was already dead, and gankers brought it on themselves in any case.”

How many t1 fitted does 100m supply anyhow?

It would be a lot easiler for you to screw up than those autopilot pods

Well that depends now doesn’t it on whether they have a mining permit or not.

Returned from the dead I see. I was led to believe that a ganker had staked you and scattered your ashes in a deserted wormhole.

That’s a rather narrow view of a game as broad as Eve, though. Mining, trading, etc. are all single-player activities. The PVP is AROUND those activities, but as in most MMO’s, PVP is not necessarily central to them. Eve Online is one of the rare games that do not have PVE-only ways to play, so it seems inconsistent to demand that EVE has to be like other MMO’s, then require EVE to surround PVE activities with PVP.

And yet…

Less than 1% of all Ventures ( for example ) destroyed every day are destroyed in highsec. Yet the fuss over this is out of all proportion to the numbers. One would think, from the fuss that some make, that highsec PvP was some massive epidemic that outweighed all other sectors, when in fact it is a tiny portion of the daily destruction in Eve.

Well…you deny my point and then affirm it.

What is all that mining, trading, etc, ultimately for ? The apex of it all is combat. Mining, trading, etc are all a means to an end…and that end is ships being blapped. Sure there are people who only mine, only trade, and so on, but people cannot dissociate themselves from the end product of the Eve production line, which is ships that go out and shoot each other.

In that respect, PvP is the core of the game. It is the apex of the pyramid of collection and production. This is because Eve is ultimately a multiplayer game, and there’s no end of single player space combat games ( Homeworld, for example ) where people can engage in combat with NPCs without an internet connection. Multiplayer means PvP.

I agree with your sentiment, but just to update your figures. These are the pvp Venture kills this year:

Month Total PvP Losses Highsec % Highsec
Jan 10175 706 6.9%
Feb 7869 622 7.9%
Mar 15827 1396 8.8%
Apr 8937 728 8.1%
May 8574 718 8.4%
Jun 8655 475 5.5%
Jul 9476 713 7.5%
Aug 8971 655 7.3%
Sep 8567 528 6.2%
Oct 9338 761 8.1%
Nov 11401 666 5.8%
107790 7968 7.4%

Most ventures that die are cynos for moving goods around. So lots of those losses in lowsec and nullsec are just disposable alt ships.

The greatest nerf to ganking would be a forum rule that CCP permabans anyone telling any other player that “EVE is not for him” or “he should play another game” for harming their business as a company.

Nevertheless it’s all dull whine here. People still can be and are ganked just fine, nothing prevents any ganker and his crew to kill any autopilot-hauler or semi-afk-netflix miner or purple-Marauder or blingy abyssalrunner. Just do what you tell others: form a fleet and go out into space looking for targets, there are plenty out there, at any time of the day. All the icebelts are full of exhumers and orcas, all the trade routes are full of afk haulers and all the missionhubs are full of marauders or factionBS, just go kill them if you want to, the game mechanics are in no way hindering you and there is no single sign on the horizon that CCP plans to “remove ganking” at all.

■■■■■■■■.

The game clearly isn’t for everyone. It’s a niche game that for the most part, is pretty terrible in how it delivers content. Yet it has such breadth, that most of us that get it, find the hook that keeps us.

Just beating people with a ban stick for having an opinion is exactly the type of cry that carebears make.

Can’t just focus on their own game and play as best they can. They just have to try to get rid of parts of the community they don’t like.
