The scandal was before my time, but I think that is when eve almost died over that incident. I know in 2011 that’s all some ppl talked about, summer of rage was another one.
Ccp needs to remain neutral and stay away from recommending new players to corps especially when shitty ones are out there like AO or SICO etc.
That’s what I was arguing for, something more obvious.
I understand that CCP doesn’t want to play favorite. I was talking about the sort of info that could be easily presented to the players in one go, without having to go pearl diving. And if it already exist in the game - corporation search - then there shouldn’t be any reason not to provide such info up-front. It could even be part of the AIR Program.
People tend to forget that there is a very vocal minority who can’t stop voicing opinions on forums et al, and quiet majority who just play the game. Not just for EVE of course but it’s the same everywhere. In a way it’s confirmation bias.
A lot of people didn’t know or didn’t care but you’d never know because they… don’t tell us they don’t know or care, because… they don’t know or care. It’s the same with stuff like monetisation in games: you can disagree with it, rage about it, make rage youtube videos about how enough is enough and how it all sucks…. but the normie casual crowd is going to buy that stuff and since there’s more of them that works out fine for the companies.
You really need a tipping point before stuff like that gains escape velocity.
so, i think what we all agree on, is that a newbro needs to find good people to learn from.
and most of the time, you meet those people in a corp.
but there are also other situations. i met a lot of people, that told me a ton about the game, after fighting them, losing and starting a conversation.
that is why i think, it should be pointed out in the tutorial, that it is possible to chat with random people you meet in systems. and that it is a good thing.
sure, at least 5/10 won’t even react. maybe 2/10 will give you a somewhat stupid response. 2 will respond but don’t care. BUT the number 10 here might be the dude, that has some time and is willing to give you some tips on how to play the game.
it is a pvp game but still a social game.
think of it like martial arts. after a fight, you still hug your opponent out of respect
Of course not. But I figure if there is going to be something that points to corporations info and options, they had better not be the thousands solo-players’ corporations but legit ones with new-player programs.
Okay. That sounds good. It’s not as if I expected anything concrete as far as corporation hunting.
For myself, I will apply to EVE Uni. If they accept me, fine. If they don’t I’ll stay solo until a corporation proves to me they don’t exploit players and they are legit. I think that will be simpler than wait for developer to do something.
Though here is a suggestion and that is all this.. Develop an app that does what you have outlined here. CCP encourages a good third party tool. It’s just something to think about.
Personally, I see merit in your idea of having a tool for a player to do a search for different corporations that are new player friendly or are teaching the game as a focus.
But there far fewer small corps these days to recommend depending on your playstyle? I remember those times, but it didn’t affect our small corp (40/50 avg) so I didn’t have the full picture.
“Ad nauseam” Yeah, I seem to be the only one left who wants more small corps again. Growing numbers, more social interaction. Local is a ghost town now. When I offer help in local, no response.
Thats how we got most of our new members. Times have changed.
There used to be more vetted choices. The forums were much more active back then and would call out most abuse.
I’m not disagreeing with anyone. It’s been a problem for a long time. But there is no simple answer. Much like trying to balance EVE so the numbers will grow…
