How is the Cyclone?

(Garresh) #1

Before I took a break the cyclone was not bad. It had strong potential in solo or small gang due to monster tank and decent drone bandwidth on top of okay mainline damage and utility slots. A good generalist ship. Curious where it stands now.

(Tavion Aksmis) #2

Not all that great to be honest

  • Application of Heavy Missiles/HAM’s are pretty bad with no application bonus (like the Claymore), so actual applied DPS is very low to most smaller or moveing targets. Also the missile bonus does not apply to Rapid Light missiles, witch is in most cases the best overall medium sized missile weapon system.

  • An active tank bonus is useless in fleet combat where you want buffer and logi to rep you, so it puts the ship into a solo/smallgang PvP role… or a PvE role. That said the bonus is decent and lets you do silly stuff with XL-ASB’s on the ship in solo/smallgang. You can have insane reps (in the range of 1400ehp/s) as long as the charges last. Problem is the slot layout, 5/5 is not as good as 6/4 for shield tanking, so it becomes a worse drake in that regard. In addition to tank, tackle and propulsion modules a battle-cruiser benefit a lot from having a Micro Jump Drive making the mid-slots highly contested.

  • The ship has two utility high-slots, but barely ever the fitting to utilize them to their full potential for neuts or smartbombs.

All in all, not horrible, but below average ship… where a drake is better in most cases, and even the drake is just an average ship right now.

I would rate it 3/10

You’ll get 500dps and an insane active tank out of 70 million fully fit. I’ve been enjoying playing with a few Cyclones of late. I think it’s going to work out better than a drake in solo tbh but I’ve never flown a drake so…

(Tavion Aksmis) #4

I agree with it being a enjoyable ship to fly  And the active tank is indeed insane.

Problem usually being that out of the 500dps, like only 50-100 will apply to a frigate or like 200-300 to a cruiser and destroyers somewhere inbetween.

(Keno Skir) #5

Yeah i agree. I run mine with max missile skills and various implants for rep amount as well as more missile application on small and fast targets. I think it’s main strength is that most people think it’s slightly more bad than it is.

(Tavion Aksmis) #6

yeah agreed, I love the stabber for that same reason… you will often run into solo T3D’s that think they can kill a stabber on their own

Medium Warhead Calefaction Catalyst II
Medium Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer I

Warrior II x5

(Keno Skir) #8

Whats DPS n stuff on that?

(Chocolate Pickle) #9

Use the following tweaks to that fit:

Pith C-Type X-Large Shield Booster
Medium Core Defence Capacitor Safeguard

Pop in a 1% PG implant and you’ll be able to swap the RLMLs for HAMs.

(Nerdz Rool) #10

But you lose range and application, so not even increasing dps on anything smaller than a BC.

Also the RLML puts out 205 DPS (my skills) without drones.

(Elmund Egivand) #11

Yes. The Cyclone is terrible against anything smaller than cruiser and even against cruisers she needs to web the dude to apply anywhere close to max damage.

On the other hand, far as battlecruisers go, the Cyclone is very mobile. Also, double neuts for shutting down that other cruiser/battlecruiser’s tank. And a really massive active tank.

The Cyclone will make a really mean bait ship and solo ship.

Just remember, she’s made to brawl, so brawl with her.

I really like Cyclones.

First Fit

[Cyclone, Battlescar]

Damage Control II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Co-Processor II

50MN Quad LiF Restrained Microwarpdrive
X-Large Ancillary Shield Booster, Navy Cap Booster 400
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Faint Epsilon Scoped Warp Scrambler
Fleeting Compact Stasis Webifier

Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Assault Missile
Medium Gremlin Compact Energy Neutralizer
Small Energy Nosferatu II

Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Medium Warhead Rigor Catalyst I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I

Hammerhead II x5

Single Rigor + web means you apply fully to cruisers and about 50% against armour frigates, more against shield. Your tank lasts only as long as your ASB, but you put out dps so effectively against larger targets that with careful management this should see you through most BC 1v1s. Scram and web gives you decent range control as well, due to the Cyclone’s naturally high speed. Make generous use of Blue pill, cheap agency tank boosters, and heat (tbh, do this on all Cyclone fits).

Alternatively, you can swap out the medium neut for a t2 shield command burst by replacing the extender rig for a cpu (processing overclocking) rig. This also lets you t2 the Rigor rig for a bit more $$.

Second Fit

[Cyclone, Battlescar links]

Damage Control II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Co-Processor II

50MN Quad LiF Restrained Microwarpdrive
X-Large Ancillary Shield Booster, Navy Cap Booster 400
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Faint Epsilon Scoped Warp Scrambler
Fleeting Compact Stasis Webifier

Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Assault Missile
Shield Command Burst II, Active Shielding Charge
Small Energy Nosferatu II

Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Medium Processor Overclocking Unit I
Medium Warhead Rigor Catalyst II

Hammerhead II x5

This gives you much greater tanking ability, but does lose you a very valuable utility in the form of the medium neut.

Moving away from XLASBs, this fit struggles with application against smaller targets, but will handily brawl down any single (or even some pairs of) Battlecruiser(s).

Third Fit

[Cyclone, Dual Injector]

Damage Control II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Reactor Control Unit II

Domination X-Large Shield Booster
Medium Electrochemical Capacitor Booster I, Navy Cap Booster 800
Medium Electrochemical Capacitor Booster I, Navy Cap Booster 800
Faint Epsilon Scoped Warp Scrambler
50MN Y-T8 Compact Microwarpdrive

Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Nova Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Nova Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Nova Heavy Assault Missile
Small Gremlin Compact Energy Neutralizer
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Nova Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Nova Heavy Assault Missile
Shield Command Burst II, Active Shielding Charge

Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Medium Processor Overclocking Unit II
Medium Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer I

Hammerhead II x5

Requires a bit of practice getting the injector control right.

This final fit is a fun option for a pair of Cyclones.

Fourth Fit

[Cyclone, Duo]

Damage Control II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Missile Guidance Enhancer II
Co-Processor II

50MN Y-T8 Compact Microwarpdrive
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Medium Electrochemical Capacitor Booster I, Navy Cap Booster 800
Faint Epsilon Scoped Warp Scrambler
Domination X-Large Shield Booster

Centum A-Type Medium Remote Capacitor Transmitter
Shield Command Burst II, Active Shielding Charge
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Nova Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Nova Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Nova Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Nova Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Nova Heavy Assault Missile

Medium Ancillary Current Router I
Medium Egress Port Maximizer II
Medium Egress Port Maximizer II

Hammerhead II x5

One Cyclone takes a scram, the other a web. When one is primary, the other feeds it cap while running it’s injector to feed itself. This provides the tanking Cyclone considerably more cap to run it’s booster with. Consider cap enhancement drifter drugs to boost this even further. One runs an active shielding link, while the other takes a shield harmonizing link.

Hope you find these interesting options!

(Matthias Ancaladron) #13

I remember killing a double xl ancillary shield bolstered cyclone once with polarized missle launchers once. His shield filled up like all the way every rep but after a minute it caved and he sank like a washing machine.
