This was the change they cried for. Didn’t they realize that this would be the consequences of that?
Then explain how you can have Criminal activity without it. Criminal being one of the advertised professions of the game.
An NPC wears suspenders. Woo. This is important… Because why?
I think CCP should make up their minds and figure out which crowd to pander to.
Because pandering to everyone, ends up only one way. Pissing everyone off.
If they want a carebear utopia, fine, commit and go full on ban PVP everywhere.
Otherwise, stick to the original heart and intention of the game. A dangerous dystopic space game where monsters lurk in every shadow and pilots survive through paranoia, planning, and prevention.
Ive been directly asking for that for years
At least if they go full PvE I can quit with a clear conceince
Those look like removing loopholes people have found. They don’t look bad to me either if I understand them.
POS shield and deep safe doesn’t actually help against FacPo. We used to just sit in NPC stations and use insta-undock bookmarks.
Since it looks like we can still dock in a pod at an NPC station that will probably once again be what happens. Gankers will just no longer maintain citadels and move back to NPC stations. The only difference now is, if the gank target warps away, you can’t go back and dock up. Wonder if you could use an Orca to emergency dock the gank ship in such cases.
This will mainly impact solo multibox gankers, because Tethering was an incredible convenience boost for them. A lot less clicks to gank.
They’re not going to and they made that pretty clear when they stated suicide ganking is legitimate. A PvE server wouldn’t be economical nor would it have a functioning economy. Supply would vastly outpace demand. Players would have vast amounts of money and resources with absolutely nothing interesting to spend it on.
Gotcha, thank you for the correction.
Thats my view on it too but there are many voices pronouncing the opposite these days.
It just seems wise to make peace with the idea that someday CCP might feel the same.
They already did.
They’re just not stupid enough to announce something like that publicly because they still want the money from the undesirable demographic to keep rolling in in the blind hope that things will “go back to the way they were at some point.”
The dev literally said “ganking was still possible before tethering, so what’s the big deal?” That tells you everything you need to know.
Mine is a kind of in-between view.
CCP could have gone further, but chose not to do so at the present time. I don’t think they’ve finished with their changes.
They definitely drew our attention to the issue of the ganking of ‘low value targets’ (likening it to griefing), and I’m fully expecting some kind of development along the lines of making it more difficult for solo operators.
So, this seems to me to be a fairly innocuous toe-in-the-water experiment, with perhaps bolder measures to come.
I do not think you are wrong, Ramona; certainly as far as Highsec is concerned.
I shoot at ships. I mine. I trade. I gank. I bash stations. I even get involved in ( redacted ) using various alts.
You ( at least in that alt ) have been in the game 5 days and you know what it’s all about ? It reminds me of those week old noobs ‘helping’ people in Rookie Help…who want to show off the 0.0001% of Eve they have grasped in that time.
As said before, these changes will heavily affect big, mobile target ganking (e.g. freighters), and will have almost no effect on small, static target ganking (e.g. Ventures).
CCP’s either absolutely ignorant, or this is intentional misdirection on their part.
yes…
I agree, Destiny. As I said, I don’t think this is the last of it we’ll see.
Thanks for pointing out the implications for larger operators. I sometimes need to be reminded that I’m not the only shark in the waters…
Now now now Altara, don’t go accusing [redacted]’s alt of being [redacted]’s alt.
At 5 days old, this person is more than qualified to be an expert on all things PVP and PVE related in EvE. In fact I bet that she know more about this game, and it’s future health than the developers and owner does.
Don’t minimize her for being new to the game.
Perhaps they are merely playing “social scientists” and mucking about with this to see what happens. Honestly, I would.
Throw science at the wall and see what sticks.
What does CCP have to loose at this point in the game’s life cycle?
Honestly I think their best path through this whole thing is to give new players and people afraid to leave High Sec a way to jump head first into Null with nothing to lose. The ISK economy can very easily prevent players from taking risks and learning new things. There needs to be some way of teaching both new and old players raw mechanics without worrying about economics or corporate politics.
A thread I made back in 2019 pitched a sort of 4th character slot for Rogue Drone entities slaved to a Hivemind corp that have to produce everything internally and can’t interact with the Capsuleer markets or Sovereignty in any way other than conflict. That’d be a lot of work on the game dev side of things but I really think it’d go a long way toward changing playstyles in general. Some people will take what they learned back to their Capsuleer while others might play Drones exclusively because they like the pure violent industriousness.
I just am already starting to miss the axiom of EvE secretly being “if you can think of it, there’s a way to do it” and slowly becoming “here are the goals we consider valid. Please optimise and meet one or more goals.”
Sanity. I mean like…people complaining about there being PvP in a PvP game.
