They can make all the money they want from Alphas. No one has an issue with that. The issues with this approach that CCP has taken is that they are double charging Omegas. You have to pay your monthly subscription and on top of that directly or indirectly (more directly these days as CCP moves towards making skins untradeable) for cosmetic items like skins or clothing. There is not a single benefit for Omegas in that regard, quite the opposite.
If CCP wanted to improve the Omega experience, they should change the Macro-Transactions system away from what it is now into a slot based system. Instead of selling skins or clothing, they are selling slots for these items.
If you are Omega, you have 5 skin slots and 3 clothing slot* (full sets, of course) included in your subscription. If you want more slots, you have to pay for them. The slots are per ship, not per ship class. You can setup the slots in your Character window or a new menu. The slots can be changed once per week or maybe on a monthly basis. Extra slot changes can be purchased as well.
If you are Alpha, you don’t have any slots. All the slots need to be purchased. Same slot change mechanics apply.
*Numbers purely for the sake of the argument.
That way, Omega would have a benefit in this department over alpha and more people would be inclined to go Omega as it offers more benefits. Plus, only freeloader whales would be farmed for real-life money as it supposed to be the case.
