How to Play EVE as Omega for FREE (Mostly)

CCP could, and should, identify longer term players who they invite to be mentors for noobs, maybe for some sort of reward. Each mentor being assigned maybe 10 or 20 noobs to look after and answer basic questions for.

In terms of SP limit and skill limit, yes.
But that’s not all there is to the game.

I agree that it’s more healthy for the game (economically) to make people want to get omega.
I agree that people usually (its cultural, NOT natural) want to have a clear progression tracking, and that’s what experience and level usually are, as a metric of your achievement in game. In Eve you instead have standing, net worth. Or killboard …
That’s what makes Eve a sandbox : your goal is the one you choose. SP are not a goal in themselves, unless you decide so.

Thats exactly what newbro-trainingcorps are doing. And since I run one, I can tell you that the rewards CCP would have to offer for that kind for mentoring would have to be immense. It’s a shitload of work, lifetime and effort to write (and maintain) guides, do streaming sessions explaining mechanics, run training events and organize the whole progress. And sometimes frustration if you see someone simply not logging in any more after having invested countless hours of explaining stuff, giving him links, showing him tools, building fits for him etc. pp…

It’s one thing to do that ‘for free’ for your own corp, in the hope that maybe 2 out of 10 newbros stay and actually become valuable long-term members. But doing it for strangers, holy moly they would have to make a real nice offer…

Good afternoon Gloria Exercitus

I very much agree with you because 1400 players hanging out in Rookie Chat ( most of them probably recruiters ) and not answering questions but antagonizing new players isn’t the way to go.
Every time I ask a question in Rookie Chat I get smart-ass answers and demeaning ones too.
And Help Chat isn’t much better.
It’s really a disgrace and, again, it makes it look like the game is full of toxic trolls

But it is. Never mind that there are ranges of ships Alphas cannot even board…even within the range of ships that they can fly the cumulative impact of a range of skills that cannot be trained is considerable. That’s something a person can perhaps endure for a few months, but to remain thus limited for years whilst one’s compatriot Omega noobs race ahead strikes me as absurd. It’s like driving a 3 wheeler Reliant Robin for 30 years and pretending one is having fun doing 50mph on the motorway.

Alpha is supposed to be a ‘trial’ period…not a permanent option. Also I think many Alphas are simply oblivious of the sheer scale of difference between a well skilled Omega and an Alpha.

Nope, its called incursion running, the newbro fits are alpha friendly so you can actually just start doing that once you have that core of skills down

But a newbie doesn’t because they don’t HAVE that knowledge and experience. They don’t even know what they want to be doing and if that would need Omega or not. Also “person who is omega says omega is important”, well… yes.

So what, it still works fine. And even with omega they won’t have that for a long time until they max out all the related skills.

You can do most play styles just fine as alpha with alpha fitting skills and restrictions. It’s just that most people don’t really know how to fit and use their ships so their solution is “max out” because that’s what they have been told and that’s the fits they’ve been given. Most people suck at fitting ships, like actually really.

Telling some real newbie “no point in playing unless you have/do X, Y and Z” (because that is effectively what they are being told) is how they go “oh never mind then, it’s that sort of game”. Telling them that long term, once they get invested into the game, they would do BETTER with Omega is completely valid but that’s generally not what happens.

If someone who has been playing 10 years and is running 10 accounts making 2 bil/h tells a newbie who makes 10 mil/h “lol that’s nothing, what’s even the point”? That’s not a flex nor is it helpful, all it shows is a lack of braincells to understand that their perspectives, choices and experience is going to be different from a newbie. And you can replace isk/h with omega, ships, skill points etc etc etc.

With all due respect, you are just theorycrafting. I’m actually out there playing the game and shooting stuff.

And so am I, just not on this character. Also, all you seem to be doing is being in fleets, shooting nubs and following order.

No I have 18 chars and 6 have decent killboards. I’ve done fleets, structure bashing, ganking, solo lowsec, and solo highsec, and taken solo advantage of wardecs. And spying. And mining. And trading. I’m one of the most active people in the game.

My alpha accounts were all created with a view to being converted to Omega at some point. That is what I did with the account Gloria is on…and will do soon with another account.

Yeah, you just spend a lot of time on this character shooting nubs. How many hours per day do you play, 48?

Either way, why don’t you address my points instead of going for the ad hominem?

Wow!

All that while spending 18 hours a day on the forum. Pretty impressive.

Because your points are largely not true. For example you claim that…

“But a newbie doesn’t because they don’t HAVE that knowledge and experience. They don’t even know what they want to be doing and if that would need Omega or not.”

…which is nonsense. I converted to Omega on my first account after just a week. I fully understood what was involved.

You are inventing the usual eponymous ‘they’ and just theorycrafting with it.

Well if you learned to touch type maybe you too could complete a post while warping through Uedama. You might need to locate the ‘Undock’ button for the first time in years, though

I’m sure you did.

Have you considered that you’re not the center of the universe and people can/will be different from others? That YOUR drive, goals, time and effort levels will be different from others?

I deal with (actual) new players A LOT. Some of them super driven, some of them not, some of them having at least an idea if what they want to be doing (mostly pvpers or “crafters”) but the majority comes in blind with a “I want to play something different, but don’t know what or how”. They all require a different form of help, explanations and “coaching”.

But whenever it’s a newbie who magically does really well, almost instantly goes omega and does tons of fancy stuff then at some point they mess up and accidentally reveal they’re not a newbie at all. As if it wasn’t obvious before.

And that goes double for “newbies” who are active on this forum. Real newbies will use Reddit or discord.

I don’t like Reddit, I don’t like the format, and I have never used Discord and don’t yet see why I should download yet another program.
This forum was recommended to me by a players in Corp Chat.
Not everyone fits in the nice little cookie cutters that you vets seem to like to put people into.

Easy to type when you are being gang warped to the next noob to F1 at. Try playing the forum while actually working for your kills and see how it goes.

Right?
This forum seems be populated by very angry people who only want to verbally abuse each other.
Maybe being one this very negative forum may not be such a good idea for me.

Real noobs spend the day playing the game. Not the forum.

When the first thing you do is head straight to LAGL, you are not a noob. Just like the last seven characters you made.
