Hows EVE directly on just Wine?

Im running EVE thru Steam fine. Used to be that running EVE directly with Wine was running heavy. Lutris was lighter, but I have been unable to get Lutris working again ever since it failed on me. Steam works fine so for now I dont need to change, but I was wondering if the recent GPU enabled EVE is lighter with just Wine than it used to be.

I honestly dont remember my old experience from where I ran with Wine only, but I hope that those that run EVE with just Wine… likely they can tell there was a difference after that GPU enabled update.

Can you share?

The people at eve-tools.com have put out a package for the launcher that works with linux with everything you need. Until recently I had issues with the updates then I switched to Fedora 42 with kde plasma. So it is now running wayland instead of X11, able to go from Potato mode to full video settings with no issues.

So if your having gpu issues check to see if your video is running X11 or wayland.

I think you may have got the wrong link there? That link sends you to some dodgy looking gambling site.

Could be .net instead of .com. But the eve-tools.net site doesn’t look much better. It looks like a software development company that sells you tools for EVE. I did not find any free stuff or tools there and certainly not anything for EVE on Linux.

Yes it is eve-tools.net and they are the people behind Eve-o and on their discord if you come for help with linux and eve or just linux they will help as much as they can.

This will let you install eve online as well as eve-o in linux. No need to worry about wine or anything else.

The config is a bit cumbersome, however, your best option is with Lutris and joining their Discord.

It frequently needs some work arounds, however, you have more tweaking options, such as setting what DXVK version you will use, that will give you a better performance end result and won’t load up bloated old Steam.

They also use a version of Proton that is improved upon by Glorious Eggroll (you can use that version with limited Steam launch commands in Steam).

When I installed the above that I linked it was not cumbersome at all. Honestly on lutris I have not had much luck, last time I tried eve online or World of warcraft I could not get them to work with Lutris. World of warcraft ran perfectly with crossover.
