CCP: Bring back Autothysian Lancers in High-sec!!

From patch notes..

“We’ve been looking into the subject of capsuleer safety in highsec, and as part of our investigation we’ve noticed that new players do lose ships to Autothysian Lancers and ‘diamond rats’ (from the FOBs). While the new player journey should include the experience of ship loss, destruction at the hands of Autothysian Lancers and diamond rats does not adequately teach new players about how to improve their survivability.”

I fired on some Autothysian Lancers as a 4 day old noob. Amazingly I managed to warp off before being demolished, and survived it. Surely Autothysian Lancers were teaching noobs a valuable lesson not to just randomly fire on stuff.

I guess ‘Participation Awards’ will be next on CCP’s bucket list.

While discussing with a friend, we had some ideas. Maybe come up with a warning when entering a system with a Jove Observatory? Like, “Hey, you might be attacked by nasty drones here. Enter at your own risk.”

I agree with you completely. I did the same… and lost a ship. And a clone. Then I learned how to kill them. Either way, lessons learned.

Gotta wait for the next big bad to replace them since we kicked the Drifter’s teeth in over last Spring.

I was killed by Autothysian Lancers in my first week of playing EVE, I saw them as a valid target and not knowing better, I shot at them. Since that happened I have been a lot more cautious about attacking things that I didn’t know about. Getting rid of them because they kill new players is a very poor reason. I was also killed in my first few weeks in high sec by a player that apparently attacked noobs that were mining for fun, maybe you should get rid of anyone that has made a unprovoked attack on a player as well. How about you bring back Autothysian Lancers to high sec and if a new player is killed by them you replace their ship and send them a massage warning them about lancers. one time deal only. These latest changes to the game have upset many players that I have talked to, maybe making a small change of bringing back Lancers will produce some goodwill and more fun filled gameplay.

There a way to tell how strong they are in game without shooting them? Like a ‘threat level’ that indicated the ship level that should be used against them solo? Or is it the usual look it up online and stop trying to find information inside the game?

They did say that they had a threat level of ‘Critical’

I think a lot of noobs do….and what is not clear to noobs is that if you leave them alone, they wont harm you. As far as I’m aware, they only actively shot at people carrying corpses.

Nope.

Point is, they were imbalanced strong for a HS NPC cruiser ship, even one randomly appearing at gates and being marked in red like a “valid NPC target”. Even ships that are quite well fitted for HS could often not handle them and this discrepancy between their strength and the environment people encountered them has been fixed. It isn’t like they are gone, anyone who “misses” them can still find them: just go to LowSec and look for them.

Lore wise it also didn’t make any sense that years after the Drifter Conflict and the recent successful campaings to even take Drifter holes, they could still roam around HS unchallenged by the empire’s Navy and Police Forces.

And last but not least: Their instakill doomsday reinforcements are just crazy stupid for HS. If you intentionally go to LS you basically accept the fact that all kinds of deadly traps wait for you there. But in HS both Lancers/Drifters and the Diamond Rats were simply unexpected and unexplained Instadeath traps for new players, and rightly they have been moved to Lowsec, where anyone interested in that content can find them.

That was a myth. No idea how it got started.

I think they’ll shoot at you if they WANT to be ALWAYS if you have a corpse in your cargohold.

There are those of us that still prefer HS… and still very much enjoy killing these monstrosities.

Can’t have it all. You’ll get over it, for the greater good. Think of the newbs! Does nobody ever think about the newbs? Stop being selfish!

The solution was probably as simple as showing them “white” (neutral) instead of red, and change their behavior around Jove observatory to passive (so that new players can visit those sites and enjoy the view). (as for their aggresiveness when you have a corpse in cargo, that’s probably not a common thing as a new player, except for one mission in the SoE epic arc, but that mission is completed in a system where there was no Authotician Lancer anyway).

We learn right in the tutorial and career missions that red npcs are to be killed. Hence probably why new players thought they could shoot at these in belts, and around stations and stargates, when they are actually neutral in those areas.

I wish theyd make a leviathan spawn here and there, then jump away somewhere else to another system or region, that spawns escorts that ARE killable but the leviathan cant be killed no matter how many try to kill it….. Thatd really choke players to no end.:smiling_imp:

While I appreciate your obviousness, we all started as newbs. I myself was killed by a Russian on my very first day! “Welcome to EvE.”

Exactly this! And if you try to shoot one, there will be a warning saying, “Oh… btw… this WILL be VERY bad for you…”
