Expanding the game is just going to make the game feel lonely as people spread out into it. Though it is a nice idea. But the problem here is not how cramped the game feels. As much as CCP not willing to listen to the players themselves.
While I agree with many of the game mechanics. Equinox and all the rollbacks and changes made afterwards. Made it plain that CCP has a listening problem. One that CCP needs to really understand that players are really trying to make the game fun and viable. Not just a wish list of goodies and shinies.
Maybe the incoming CSM members can get CCP to understand that for once. I have my doubts. Still I can hope that somewhere along the line that CCP does start to hear what the players are wanting.
If the player count is shrinking in a game revolving about player interaction, the logical thing would be to also shrink the universe to keep the amount of players per system consistent, not to expand it.
Expanding the game has a similar effect as loss of players: emptier systems with less interaction. That’s the opposite of what a game with dropping player number needs.
I don’t think the game size needs to be shrunk though, it’s fine as it is.
I do however think it’s funny that you are using a shrinking playerbase as an argument for an increased universe.
Could it be that you want less player interaction for selfish reasons?
SOV price should rise Geometrically with the number of systems.
No massive alliance should ever hold sov over more than 50 systems, and even then, with a massive cost for doing so. THIS ALONE would bring vastly more people out into null-sec and improve pvp and economies all around.
Well, CCP tried on Equinox release, when systems power generation hardly limit many of blocks logistic and production. But as i said above in this topic - blocks just cry to CCP and all of these was reverted to a comfort values.
If you’re looking for a themepark-like open world game ‘like WoW’ without players able to claim space and where you get a new continent to play in each expansion (while the rest of the game world becomes irrelevant), then why not play WoW?
EVE is a different game where every part of the game world is relevant and can be claimed by players.
World of Warcraft is a good game and I’ve enjoyed it a lot. I just don’t think EVE needs to become like WoW, each game has it’s own strengths and weaknesses. But if you want to have an open world like WoW, there is a simple solution…
It is a great look at how the fluid the alliances can grow and shrink.
If you want your alliance and corp to grow. You have to put in the time and effort. There is no number crunching here. It is about how well you can sell your corp and alliance to make it grow. The Imperium started off as a back water corp. Goonswarm was just a handful of corps that more or less got along. The same for all of the big Corps and Alliances today.
It’s just not worth it.
That’s why blue donut growing up. You join them or you leave.
No way you create your own space. Which is was main point of this topic.
No way you find enough powerful ally to fight PanFam or Goons. And anyway they have more resources and people.
There is just no way to grow for newcomers besides joining one of them.
And only gameplay you get - 25/8 grind. It’s just become pointless.
That’s why i will saying it again and again - Tranq will repeat Serenity case if CCP wont do something.
Then guess how much people who playing EVE for years just leave completely after wipe?
If you noticed anything in that video. Goonswarm has been all over the map. It has shrunk down to a handful of corps and disappeared off the map. Only to come back and run with big dogs again. Several of the alliances such as Test while not as ;arge as they once were. Are slowing growing. While everyone is looking at Goons/Panfam fights. The Initiative above Goonswarm is just as large. Children at Play is another alliance that has enjoyed a time as being large. It is now growing as well.
Nothing is static in this game. Instead of saying woe is me I can not compete. Look at it as an opportunity. An opportunity to fight your own way to dominance. If you notice anything you will see some Alliances that are no longer there, but have been replaced with other Alliances.
History note the Imperium started off flying with Pandemic corps. Until the imperium decided to go their own way and started Goonswarm(in the early days Goons still occasionally flew with Pandemic corps) that eventually became Goonswarm Federation. The history is one worth reading if you are into trivia like that.
Imperium an essentially a backwater corp that loved PVP. Fought and scratched their way to where they are now. Any alliance including goonsarm and pandemic horde can fall at any time.
They know it and so does anyone who has been on this game for more than ten minutes. You want to be as big as they are. Great! I mean that too. It’s starts with either you starting your own Corp or joining one to climb the ranks of the leadership.
But here is the catch. You are going to have to sell yourself as being the guy that everyone wants to follow either as a CEO or as part of the leadership of a corp. You can have all the required skills of a CEO, but that does not mean you get to be that if the you can not sell the idea of you being the leader.
The challenge here is are you willing to put the time and effort in to it? Are you willing to play this game hardcore to achieve a goal of being one of the big dogs, if that in the end is what you want?
As for my ambitions. I have climbed enough corporate ladder in IRL. That seriously I do not want to be a CEO. I just want to be a player that does industrial, a little exploring, and playes the market every now and again. While ratting when the mood takes me.
If you want to hit the big leagues. Then be prepared to work for it. It might take you years to get there. But you might just do it. If you plan carefully and manage your expectations.
Till you loose all of your assets (which is clearly less than PB’s)
And i not even talk about numbers (which is also less)
It’s just pointless, man. You could win a fight or two, but you cant win a war against owerwhelming power.
To become such power you need at least equal time to rise up.
Which is obviously impossible for newcomers. And since today they nowhere to go anyway - never would.
Only if blocks will collapse by itself, but it’s like lottery. Even if one will collapse, other will take their space. Why would share it?
LOL I have lost a lot of things… But here is the idea. Don’t fly what you can not afford to lose. Manage your expectations. And set a goal that you want to attain. Be it a trillionaire, being the best at PVP, or whatever.
This is EVE. You want to run with the big dogs, Earn it. Work for it. DO IT.
All I am hearing from your post is whining. BAH!
You are right you will never be able to be a major player. With your attitude you have defeated yourself. SMH
Have it your way. Don’t bother to try. Cry about how unfair it all is here on the forums.
Though I do not know what you are trying to achieve here in EVE. I can tell you that until you change your mindset. You will not achieve much of anything. This is a game that about being a self starter. Taking the initiative. Taking chances. This game is not about being a follower. As much as it is pursuing what you want. This is about playing the long game.
Not everyone is cut out to be a CEO, lead an alliance, or a coalition. You just proved you are not cut out for that goal. shrugs
Oh I get it. You think that somehow magically deliciously that these Alliances were just lucky to become the big dogs. They fought their way to that. They talked and sold the idea that their alliance was worth joining. Every corp there big and small had to do the same thing. Assemble people that believed that the corp or alliance was worth the time and effort to grow.
Watch the video again. This time pick out an alliance. Watch it expand and contract and maybe expand again. No one is sharing anything. Everyone is in conflict with everyone else. You have missed the point of my posts and insisting on whining about how unfair it all is.
If you want to run with the big dogs. Then you are going to have to make it happen. Finding people that share in your vision and are willing to help.
This is EVE you have just as much chance to grow a corp and make it stick as anyone else. And just as much chance of not succeeding. Nothing is a guarantee here.
In fact there are here and there structures abandoned by a corp that no longer exists. Get with some friends and take the system for yourselves. Talk with the corps that might be in that same general area of space. Hammer out a treaty of some sort. Join the local Alliance. It will give you a measure of protection. You can leave that alliance later.
That is just one suggestion. Regardless taking that first step is the hardest one. Until you take it. You do not know. But again your mindset has already defeated you. So why bother, right? In EVE as in RL it is your mindset that is 90% of why you can succeed or not.
You have already determine that because there exists already large Alliances that you can not succeed. Why bother with the other 10% of actually working and making it happen. When you have already given up on the 90% of believing in yourself to make it happen. SMH
No, i dont think so. They made themself. It’s solid fact.
Forged in many battles and intrigues.
They deserve their place.
But it was long time ago when no blue donut. When space was yet unclaimed. Not assets reserved. Etc. etc. Right now blocks is “too big to fail”. They even cant defeat eachother.
But what’s about new players, new corps/ally? Or those who dont want to play by blocks rules?
How they should grow if no even place to start?
And only you grow a bit - you get kick from big guy.
EVE is changed since 2007.
Only more space could give these players a chance.
