I WAS A CODE. SPACE BULLY

Is it? Why do people with personality disorders seek medical support?

Great, you also agree with the Princess.

I’m quite sure it does. Computers certainly do. The internet certainly does. Roleplaying games certainly do. Spreadsheets in space? Definitely autistic.

@Australian_Excellence ganked him and Dracvlad in a single thread.

Well, of course, I don’t think so. I believe our society is too tolerant of bad behavior. Personality disorders, such as Ward’s confessed narcissism, Overmind’s obvious Type II Bipolar tendencies, or Kell’s alleged Asperger’s syndrome, really just amount to bad behavior which should not be excused because of a “diagnosis”. I don’t tolerate alcoholics either, and none of these ‘disorders’ are an excuse to behave poorly.

Quite simply, I don’t tolerate people who engage in dysfunctional behavior, especially when they refuse to even try and improve. I think they should be called out on it.

Now, autism as it is properly defined, is not something I have an issue with. The retarded guy from Rainman who counts cards is someone I’m likely to get along with, just like how Tom Cruise’s character took him on vacation to Las Vegas. They had fun! On the other hand, high-functioning autism, more properly defined as Asperger’s Syndrome, involves a great deal of inappropriate behavior by someone who really should know better. Talking too much, arguing too much, and just plain being annoying.

Here is a famous blogger giving her advice to people with autism:

Should her website be banned? Should someone be banned for linking it? Should her Wikipedia article be edited to call her a discriminatory bigot? No, I don’t think so. In order for people to be more functional, they need to hear that there is a problem. For example, I was a chubby child, and an old man called me fat. I felt bad, I started eating less, and I became a beautiful princess. Instead of crying about criticism, I reflected upon it and changed my behavior for the better. We do not have to be sad little snowflakes, waiting to be rescued by a social justice whiteknight.

Quite simply, criticism is a key part of helping someone get better. I’m trying to help Lucas! He runs around the forums for years, arguing endlessly with everyone. He isn’t happy. Nobody is happy to talk to him. The problem is how he communicates, and that problem is intrinsically tied up with his ‘autism’, which can be described as: endlessly arguing to an annoying and overtly excessive extent. It doesn’t help that he is continuously snarky, but that is normal for individuals with autism, as they have no regard for anyone else’s feelings or emotional state. Anderson and Dracvlad have the exact same issue, and that issue is autism.

Let me put it this way, let’s say I write something you disagree with. Do you feel the compulsive need to respond? If you are autistic, the answer is yes. You have to correct the record! You have to set things straight! You have to mansplain endlessly!!! Just stop. Nobody wants to read your 15th post today, in which you dissect six other posts line by line, responding at length to each individual sentence fragment. That is not, I repeat, NOT, effective communication.

The good news, is that you CAN change. A lot of research has shown that internet debates tend to become autistic, precisely because people cannot hear verbal cues, and cannot see the other person. People with autism are generally oblivious to this, and on the internet this effect is greatly amplified. In other words, people on the internet have a tendency to act more autistic than they actually are! With a little bit of calming down, you CAN write like a normal person who has productive conversations!

Yeah, maybe that was true once. The world of today has been overrun with false-complainers that just claim to have been wronged for sport.

Its pretty easy to tell tbh.

This thread a pure example, just wait till they get caught out on their lies and they snap, simples.

Well this thread took a turn.

I ignore it for a few months due to excessive low content posting and was surprised to find it resolved itself with multiple people who post unhealthy amounts taking steps to get themselves to a better place.

This whole ride started with a questionable post about someone’s self-revelation about their mental health and ended with others doing the same it seems. I wish them all peace.

These forums have all sorts participating. Most come in good faith and discuss from different perspectives. A few are jerks, or forum warriors looking to score points or continue an in-game rivalry. But there are some that have an unhealthy predilection to compulsively argue every little thing, endlessly and without facts.

This isn’t healthy behaviour. You probably shouldn’t participate in these forums if you can’t let something go, or compulsively feel you need to always have the last word. Or you find yourself gripped in emotion endlessly writing reply after reply. My recommendation: obey the forum’s suggestion to stop back-and-forth replying, take a break, and come back later when you are a little calmer and have some distance.

Wishing you all the best.

Are you being pushed out?

Me: Ya’all argue too much. Calm down.
Bronson Hughes: That’s offensive! How dare you!
Black Pedro: I hope you guys find peace.
Lucas Kell: I’m not arguing!

What is your diagnosis, Doctor?

Fixed that for you.

Did I get a bit riled up in my commentary? Sure, because this particular issue hits close to home for me. I’m willing to admit that, and I take full ownership of my posts on the matter.

Was I wrong for calling out folks for using ASD as a way to comment on their actions in-game? I still don’t think so.

I get that C&P is a place to trash talk and that forum moderation rules are a bit…looser. The thin-skinned rarely fare well here. If you’ve been around for any length of time (a la the old forums), you’ll know that I’ve definitely talked trash to people and shitposted often. (Hell, I was the one who started the original C&P Thunderdome series with a long series of shitposts, but that’s another topic entirely.) But I kept it about in-game actions, and in-game personas, not the people behind the keyboard.

CODE is gonna CODE, and the AG crowd is going to AG. They’ll both largely think they’re right and that the others are a bunch of losers until the servers shut down. This is all perfectly fine, and I don’t want to change it.

It would just be nice if everyone remembered that there are real people with real struggles behind the keyboard and to act accordingly.

I know this is an important topic for you, so it would be rude of me to refrain from responding, and failing to correct your erroneous assumptions.

I refer you to Arguing with Asperger Syndrome (Richardson, Blackmore, & Atkin, 2007), and I hope you will read it and do some research, instead of waiting 30 seconds to write a hasty ‘rebuttal’. https://philarchive.org/archive/ATKAWA

As you know, Asperger’s (or high-functioning ‘autism’) is associated with “deficiencies in social and communication skills”. In particular, turbo autists tend to be “pedantic” and “repetitive”, often responding “inappropriately”. This is very “frustrating” for other people to deal with, because normies find it really annoying.

I am sure that many autistic people see themselves as logical, but research suggests that the autist is actually “overly logical”. Can you fathom a time when you used too much logic? Is there something more important to an argument than logic? Can you try to imagine what might be more important? Read www.minerbumping.com for a hint.

The researchers cite Stenning & Lambalgan who described the autistic argument as an “obsessive” attempt to establish a “meaningless truth”. They also cite Atwood & Gray, who emphasized that autists pursue a “personal theory” which they advocate “despite conflicting evidence”. Ultimately, their arguments are “incohesive” and they “struggle” to understand what the other person is saying. They can’t even tell if the person is friendly or not, which may have something to do with this myth that everyone in CODE is a bully and a griefer. Does that sound familiar?

Some concern has been raised about whether we should discuss personality disorders in a video game forum. Of course we should. If we censor all such discussion from the video game, then we are actually ostracizing autistic individuals, who spend most of their day interacting with the video game forum and wondering why they are constantly arguing with literally everyone else on the forum.

Bollocks.

You’re not a decent player but a ■■■■■■■ moron.

The problem is that too many players in general don’t stop posting.

It’s ok to let things rest. Not every point needs to be rebutted. If you can’t make your case in a couple back-and-forths, throw out a snide comment and let it rest for a bit.

At least that is my preference as a reader of these forums. Endless bantering in circles isn’t useful, productive, and most importantly isn’t going to persuade anyone. It is just annoying and going to get you labeled as a nutter or a pendant by almost everyone who stumbles across that thread.

We thought you did stop. But here you are again

You literally were doing that above, then went spastic trying to remove the evidence and went on a deleting spree lmao

Dunno why you’re saying that in a way that doesn’t imply Lucas is in his own league as the worst offender of this

So hows the new Skilling is Killing With a Smile or whatever the event is called gonna affect unsolicited ammo delivery?

An increase followed by a plateau as the bears turn turtle when they realise once again they should have read the papers is my guess.
