CCP devs fly around in throw-away Titans and Super-carriers and generate big fights. I think providing a limited amount of that freedom to the capsuleers of New Eden would be really fun.
My idea: FW pilots can accept missions from their militia to fly NPC-owned capital vessels in a large deadspace battlefield. Upon taking control of the vessel you are jumped to a battlefield in another system which appears as a site on the overview and is accessible to everyone via an acceleration gate. The ship can’t warp or jump, and only drops tags when it dies. It’s basically just there to generate content for FW. The pilot must complete some sort of mission while the site is active, ie occupy the site for a certain amount of time or destroy a certain number of NPC hostiles, or support a friendly NPC fleet of some kind.
Opposing factions can form to destroy it for an LP payout if they wish. Tying the capital to a FW complex and removing the chance of a loot piñata and killmail means it won’t draw the attention of people outside of FW (unless they want to 3rd-party a big fight of course).
I propose that the pilot should need all the required skills for the capital, and may need decent implants for survivability if their skills aren’t high enough.
Capitals aren’t used a whole lot in FW from what I can tell. This doesn’t exactly fix that, but it may be fun content nonetheless. Maybe more than that it could be a way for pilots to get experience fielding a capital in combat outside of joining bigger alliances and null blocs. I could see more people spending isk on pvp capitals after getting a taste of it in these smaller, controlled environments.
