Picked a stupid name when they were young, and are now kind of embarrassed by it.
Want to self-express differently, especially if they switched play styles
Thought of a really good name after the fact
Picked a variation of a name, then the original toon was biomassed, freeing up the preferred name (this actually happened to me once).
and probably other reasons.
Truth be told, I don’t really care why people want to change their names. The thing is, CCP is introducing new monetization methods to the game, and I would prefer it if they implemented things that players actually wanted, instead of things that are anti-consumer, P2W, and/or detrimental to the long term health of the game.
Once again, I understand why people don’t want others to be able to escape their deserved reputations, but people can already do that. And CCP can prevent name change certificates from making it easier for these people by implementing a name history tab. Moreover, since the character ID will remain the same, it shouldn’t affect API checks or standings that people have set.
Fair enough, but is that a reason why it shouldn’t be implemented? I mean, just because you don’t have sympathy for the YoloSwagBlazeIt crowd, that doesn’t mean that this change isn’t beneficial to others, or the game as a whole. I mean, I have no sympathy for billionaires, but I still think they should pay their taxes.
Of course, this is all predicated upon the assumption that CCP implements stuff like this in lieu of anti-consumer and P2W BS, instead of in addition to it.
In all of those situations, the easiest thing to do is just skill extract the character and put the skill points into the new character with the new name.
Extractor costs can add up quick, and then you have the injector penalty and the 5 mil that can’t be extracted. It’s a terrible option. Do people actually do that? If so, please advise them against it.
You are here suggesting ignorant garbage. People want a simple name change not to lose millions of skill points and billions of isk in injectors trying to move skills around to be characters.
Give one legitimate argument against it. “I want them working on stuff that matters.” This matters to a lot of people. There have been several posts about it so you can ■■■■ off with that one.
Ccp has been trying to pinch pennies and scrape every buck they can from players they’re even now spamming new players with ■■■■■■■■ ads to buy 5$ Plex packs to replace their starter ships. This is a legit service that hundreds maybe even thousands of players will gladly pay for and for multiple characters. This would add revenue and not do anything at all to degrade the integrity of the universe unlike spamming new players with pop ups. It’s not even any work for them… The Chinese server already had it so the dang technology is there! (Not 100 on that but have been told by several people.)
No, I’m suggesting my opinion. I’m sorry you disagree with it.
I have given a half dozen legitimate arguments against it. First, reputation means something in EVE, and creating a way to easily obfuscate who you were allows people to engage in bad behavior and then get a get out of jail free card. Second, it goes against a long-standing practice in the game that has lasted since launch that character names are final unless they are deemed offensive and changed by the GMs. I tend to think that things that have been in the game that long should probably stay. Finally, this makes catching spies even harder than it is now and the process is already so difficult that this game is well known for how hard it is to get into groups. Making that process harder by letting people change their names doesn’t make a ton of sense. There were others in the other thread, but I honestly don’t feel like wandering over there and reminding myself.
CCP just came off their best year since they were purchased by Pearl Abyss, bringing in more than $60 million in 2020. They aren’t hurting for cash, and the point of those ads is to convert new players - many of whom are alphas and not paying at all - into paying customers, which is a key indicator of someone sticking around longer than a month, which is the biggest stumbling block for getting folks to stay in this game.
The EVE IP experienced a drop of 7.9% compared to the previous quarter. Pearl Abyss attributed the drop to “slightly weaker mobile revenue.” On the positive side, EVE Online and EVE Echoes still recorded a 23.1% increase in revenue compared to Q1 2020
EVE Echoes is not the only mobile game doing poorly. Once again, financial analysts brought up the poor performance of Black Desert Mobile. Converting the percentages of revenue by platform to actual won amounts shows why the analysts are so concerned. Doing so shows quarterly mobile game revenue has dropped by almost 50% since the first quarter of 2020. In contrast, PC-based revenue is up 14.6% over the same time.
While Pearl Abyss plans on launching EVE Echoes in China sometime during the second quarter,
Early on the call, Pearl Abyss mentioned CCP’s London studio is working on a “sci-fi multiplayer shooter”
Totally agree. Reputation is important and pilots should be held to account for what they do in the game.
If you want a reputation as a Jedi then play as a Jedi, but if you play as a Sith then deal with it.
I also agree with this. I always tell newbies that they need to be careful both with their choice of name and their activities because this will follow you around in Eve.
