Please show support for this post if you would like CCP to make salvaging yellow wrecks (meaning you don’t own them) a flaggable offense, meaning they become suspect and can be fired upon freely by other capsuleers. Makes no sense how I have ownership of the cargo but not the hull itself when in HighSec, and it provides a way for a single player to harass other players with little to no consequences. I would also add something to where if the creator of the wreckage leaves grid unattended for more than say 15-20 minutes then the wrecks automatically go blue and are free for all to loot/salvage.
The excuse of “this is how it’s always been” or “Salvage is a mini-game” are outdated ideas and IMO its bad game design to give one player an easy, consequence free way to grief others.
Sometimes it can take longer than that to clear a site, whether it’s a Sanctum or a level 4 mission, and others like me prefer to finish a site like that then come back with a Noctis to salvage it.
That way no MTU’s are left behind to be scanned down either.
maybe the MTU could act as a proxy for you not being there personally. My point is if a grid is just abandoned completely, the person aint coming back, then the loot should go blue at some point. The timing is negotiable I think.
First, stealing loot isn’t a criminal act, it’s merely suspect. You don’t lose your ship to CONCORD if you steal loot.
Next, loot and salvage are two separate things. Modules and other cargo that drops from a ship is your reward for killing that ship. Other people can take your reward, but that is considered stealing.
Salvage is just what appears when a ship violently ceases to be a ship and turns into trash.
People can gather this trash, salvage, and recycle it into ship rigs.
Now I wouldn’t say you ‘own’ the trash of ships you fly or kill. Some people’s ship fits are trash, but that’s something else.
Salvage is just trash that appears when ships explode and can be gatheres by salvagers, just like asteroid anomalies appear for miners to mine, except the latter happens autonatically without player involvement.
Cleaning the trash is not the same as stealing in EVE. As long as you don’t touch the contents of the wrecks it’s not illegal to make space trash-free in your Noctis.
How about wrecks automatically go blue once the site despawns. And there should be an active command for the wreck creator to claim the wrecks to prevent this instead of needing to abandon them. In which case, if another person loots a yellow wreck that has been claimed by its maker, they are suspect to that person and/or their corporation only. Why should a random Joe Blow be able to attack someone for looting yellow wrecks they had nothing to do with?
