Yup. Right now it’s not that far from the default, hoping we can nail specifics in it that are/aren’t relevant to prune.
The extra tabs alone will help. I can’t tell you how often I’ve had to walk people through how to organize thing, add things that they can’t see, and generally explain how to work with the interface.
I understand that reworking the Overview or building a tutorial is a very large effort that won’t happen quickly, but I applaud you taking the initiative to work in incremental improvements.
One thought that did occur to me is if it might make sense to create Profiles- for example, PVP, Miner, Explorer, etc. with different tabs tailored to those activities with some in common (loot, structures, etc.). Essentially, multiple Overviews, though only one could be used at a time. Something that a player might be able to store (unfortunately via mail, unless somebody knows a better way) and load based on what they are doing?
Just a thought (maybe not a great one-LOL).
Mobile Depot is not in the PvP tab. Not a big deal to leave it off, imo for a new player. They can decide for themselves if they want to add this later.
Fighters are not in the PVP tab. Pretty big deal. If you won’t have a drone tab, it is pretty important to see a fighter.
Velocity is not present as a column, but transversal is? Drop the transversal for speed, imo. Shrink the Velocity tab until only the word Velocity fits in the width.
Remove citadels and stations from the Mining tab. Let people mine in peace!
Remove stations and citadels from travel tab, loot tab, PvP tab, PvE tab, plz.
I don’t see a difference between General and PvE tabs. Just consolidate those. Get rid of the ‘newbro’ scheme and leave Mining, Loot, Travel, PvP as their basic name.
In states for the PvP tab, you can filter out blues. It would be a nice touch. Pilot is in your fleet; pilot is in your alliance; pilot is in your corporation should be enough.
Also, why are half the backgrounds disabled? I recommend people to check the neutral and no standings gray boxes. Being able to see a neutral as a color is much better than them not having a background at all. For Newbro’s it might be best to not over-saturate them with too much color, but checking Colortag for [Pilot has No Standing.] on is better than a pilot escaping your notice because they look like a stargate.
Please right-click and set the yellow suspect and also the limited engagement light blue backgrounds to blink . And that’s all I got.
Thank you very much for the militia bump above criminal.
I would leave that in and the radial velocity.
- Add a lesson in the turret tutorial that tells the noobies that the radial velocity tells you if someone if flying to you or away from you.
- Add a lesson in the turret tutorial that tells you that low transversal values are good for your guns and high values are not so good for your guns
- Add a lesson in the turret tutarial that tells the noobies that while low transversal values are good for your guns, it is also good for your target’s turrets
- Add a lesson to the turret tutorial that tells noobies that high tranversal values are bad for your turrets but also bad for your targets turrets.
After that you can add one other “lesson” for noobies:
- press this button to join goons and sit in a titan right away to do ratting in a titan and win EVE.
bah, now you are just being contrary! We’re trying to minimize what they have to learn, not add to the pile of things that bore new players to death in the npe.
Oh okay.
Maybe make the turret tutorial optional and repeatable at a later time.
Sadly I don’t have the realistic expectation that a change in overview will come with several new tutorials. I originally went w/ transversal as all new players will start with a turret ship, to which velocity matters little and xVersal is key to understanding what’s going on. But I think plain ‘ol velocity might be more grokkable.
that’s true. While tracking is helpful some of the time, velocity is always helpful. Helps you maintain range, will distract you to use the Look At or tracking camera early in, and might break open the idea of the three dimensional plane faster for new bros that come in thinking long ways and sideways.
I like Elita’s idea on a turret tutorial as much as the idea of a Sig radius tutorial. Til this day I can’t figure those things in my head, but at least practice can build some kind of instinctive understanding with experience.
Ah. I don’t know if CCP has issue with breaking the 4th wall. Maybe Salvage for Loot and Combat instead of Peeveepee would be received better.
