“DX9 is ancient - came out in 2002. About time it was dropped.”
Prices go up because money supply is being inflated. Purchasing power drops of the currency.
Shipping costs are up per container, temporarly.
You don’t need to rush out and buy a new GPU to run DX11. Even years old GPU’s can run it on Linux with DX11.
You’re simply making hyperbole and drama out of a non-event.
You know what came out in 2003?
My garbage laptop from 2012 can run Eve under DX11 - it’s not a substantial requirements increase.
You know what ended in 2008?
Edited out.
Pretty sure DX11 was introduced years ago. Been running it on Linux on Proton for years.
DX9 is technical non- updated baggage.
Did I mention a date?
DX11 is still newer than DX9, yes?
DX12 is even newer, and yes Proton on Linux can run that too.
In software development we have a concept called technical debt. As technologies used to build something get older, the harder it is to maintain. DX9 was very old, isn’t supported by Microsoft anymore, and only a marginal number of users actually used it.
Eve has been using DX11 since 2013.
I love how you answer questions.
Cool, thank you for your reply.
They’ve been allowing DX11 and DX9 to work in tendem for quite a while now. It makes sense to eventually drop support for the older tech when the cost of supporting it exceeds the benefits.
DX9 effectively ended in 2008, last updated.
Strangely enough, even though it ‘ended’ in 2008 I’ve been able to use it for years after that!
Maybe your concept of ‘ended’ is off?
Thank you. @FORCY_FUNTIMES_MEATWATER has graciously answered that.
I appreciate it.
Ended as in no changes, whilst it may run, it was competing with DX10 that came out not long after.
