So what are we going to do about it?
Not much can be done about it until enough people wake up to the fact that there is a problem and are willing to do something about it.
There was a thinktank sometime back that came up with the suggestion that we should reduce the amount of children being born to halt the population expansion (can’t remember their exact words). But I do remember that was the main thing they said that people were against.
I think part of the problem is people see the world as being a big place and nature will attend to itself. It won’t, it will try but beyond safe limits it can’t.
The ecosystem is the first line of defence at maintaining populations, once the populations have grown to a point where the ecosystem can no longer maintain a balance you have to use science and technology to assist the ecosystem. That’s if you have the science and technology to do so.
What the ecosystem can cope with on it own is what I would use as a max population figure. You can go above max. using science and technology but if that science and technology fails, depending on the amount of population at the time things can quickly turn bad.
So in short I’m not expecting anything to be done about it anytime soon. At least not a serious effort.
