Industry update

Hello EVE pundits,

The economy is sluggish. Here are some things that could help.

  • (Skill change) “Industry”: Time bonus increased from 4% to 5% per level
  • (Skill change) “Advanced industry”: Time bonus increased from 3% to 5% per level
  • (Style change) Characters no longer have a manufacturing slot by default
  • (New skill): “Production”: +1 manufacturing slot per level
  • (Skill change) “Mass production”: Requirements changed from Industry III to Production IV
  • (Skill change) “Advanced Mass production”: Requirements lowered from Mass Production V to Mass Production IV
  • (New passive) “Economies of scale”: The more runs a manufacturing job has the less time each run will take
  • (New notification) “Industry job(s) require attention”

The changes means characters get up to 4 additional crafting slots and reaching more than 10 slots is less punishing skill point wise. The buff to “Industry” and “Advanced industry” makes them feel ever so slightly more rewarding to level. The economies of scale passive is intended to help with mass production of for example ammo which seems to be affected by a bottleneck. Last but not least the new notification is there to help people who do industry on the side.

Could you explain exactly what it is in the EVE economy that you think is sluggish?

And how are these suggestions meant to help?

The more enjoyable an activity is the more people are inclined to do it. These changes makes crafting more enjoyable. This is important because EVE largely has a player run economy?

Your changes make industry faster.

I fail to see how they make industry ‘more enjoyable’.

One the big issues is how slow it is

How is that an issue?

If it feels slow its not as enjoyable

So ‘faster’ equals ‘more enjoyable’ for you?

Why stop at these small bonuses to industry speed? Why not add a 100 industry slots to everyone and make their industry jobs finish instantaneously?

Wouldn’t that be even more enjoyable?

That seems a bit excessive

Is it? Why?

Faster is more enjoyable, right?

If something feels too fast it could be just as bad

So you think that industry should not be too slow, but also not be too fast?

That there is an optimum speed that is most enjoyable?

There are so many industry alts that even adding a few industry manufacturing slots would probably have a massive impact.

My vision is greater than these changes. For example i dont believe there should be a hard limit on crafting slots. But it would be best to get to that point in increments i think. Hence the conservative changes suggestion. Peace.

Why should there not be a limit on crafting slots?

Should a single industrialist character be able to scale up indefinitely? Fill the entire market demand all on it’s own?

What would be the purpose of spending a lot of time and SP improving your character’s industry skills if you could just as well pay a tiny fee to an industry character in your alliance that has max skills and can make everything with no limits because of endless industry slots?

Hard limits on crafting slots introduces opportunity costs. For example profit margins on Antimatter Charge M could be 100% even if you manufacture it in the trade hub. But it might not be worth using a crafting slot for it.

Theres plenty of room for competition without hard limiting crafting slots. Hard limiting crafting slots doesent even increase competition in the first place.

That’s a good observation!

So why do you want to delete this opportunity cost?

To me it seems like a good balancing factor that allows newer industrialists to focus on ammo with lower ISK per slot payout while more advanced industrialists with better skills use their limited industry slots for more important and better items, instead of letting the advanced industrialist also craft all the items with lower ISK potential with unlimited amounts of industry slots. New players have it hard enough competing against veterans, if you also remove this balancing factor it will be even harder to get into industry as new player.

If we assume hard limiting crafting slots helps new people and ignore the potential effects on the economy then it might be a good idea.

But EVE being hard when you are new is not necessarily a bad thing.

EVE is hard enough for new players even if we don’t buff Veteran players even more, like you’re asking here.
