Introducing Exordium!

Doubt it. I started playing eve over 10 years ago with one account. Now I have 6 that are Omega and the same again in alpha I do not use anymore.

This is a massive problem though, if 10 players decided to stop playing its anywhere between 20 to 30 pilots no longer logging in.

A couple of years ago there was an update where mutlboxing broke after downtime. The player count was usually 18k-20k, an hour after dt it was still sitting at 5k, so this tracks.

Welcome to New New Eden.

You cannot tractor a wreck you do not own or are in a fleet with someone who does.

It can be salvaged though.

Oh yes forget about that. Though isn’t that one of the things personal standings can affect. I remember those can actually do something?

Neither do i any longer. Im quite excited about it.

No, you didnt get that right…unless you were just throwing some sarcasm aound.

As its been mentioned several times in this thread now, the assumed plan is that there will be a very tiny amount of wealth gained in this area. Its designed to hold a new player over until they pass the threshold of wealth that will carry them comfortably into main HS and onward. Nobody is going to starve, people will still travel to all other areas of the game, and pvp will never go away.

I really dont understand why botters would even waste the time in exordium when thats happening is more lucrative areas constantly.

Adjustments will be made when things settle out. We all know already that will occur.

@Christine_Creed Yes, there was a bit of sarcasm. Sometimes it helps people realize that something is “off course”. And I totally agree, that the new region will have basically no impact to the majority of the current playerbase.

CCP will cut that down if they see it start happening. Shipcasters will have a ship restriction and they will be watching if people start using it as a shortcut by recycling alts. As well as keeping an eye on hell camping Yulai.

for tractoring wrecks etc. no..

its strictly based on fleet mechanics if you’re in fleet or if someone abandons the can.

The big issue is that it is not EVE. These newbs play a completely different game inside Exordium that has next to nothing to do with the outside world. Inside Ex, a feeling and expectation of untouchability and non-interaction is fostered in new players. No one can “negatively” (ie. EVE-like) interact with them. That kind of mindset has already led CCP to implement exploit rules in events against people dragging NPC away from the intented warp-in/interaction areas.
As soon as they leave Ex, they are being confronted with people stealing their mission loot, bumping them from asteroids, killing them in ganks, interfering with them on the markets, contest mission and exploration sites, just to name a few things.

This secluded safe space nurtures a completely different EVE expectation. I hope this will lead to even worse new player retention than the existing paradigm.

This is all her fault!!!

She typed New New first

“Exordium” is a strange name for a region. It feels more like a name that you’ve recycled from a list of potential new minerals. It just doesn’t feel region-y

AI slop:

Considerign that AIR and CONCORD “created” the region with the goal to have a neutral starting area for capsuleers, the name is kind of fitting.

Yes, yes I am.

The reason I play EvE is because of my NPE.

I was in the newbie help channel, and someone mentioned that ninja salvage was a profitable trade to start the game doing. So I did some research fit up my probe, found a system near Rens where people ran level 4s, probed them out and nicked their stuff. It was the most fun I’d had in a multi-player game since being the head assassin on a MUD in the 90’s.

EvE is special because there is no safe space, there are no instanced dungeons (if we ignore the Abyss) where you can get your PvE on sure that no-one is going to come and nick your stuff or mess with you, or straight up blow your ship up.

I appreciate that EvE has softened, you used to be able to can bait in newbie systems and there were always people challenging you to duels when you undocked in newbie systems iirc, so maybe clumping those systems all together and making it mechanically impossible to play (mess) with others in them is easier or better than doing it with GMs, but it saddens me that we’re losing what made this game attractive to me.

Working as intended? As long as these folks are getting some tutorials and/or a warning of whats to come in their sprouting EVE lives then i dont see a problem. As with any game, some will quit, some will stay.

So its at this point that i can no longer take anything else you say seriously. You just want the system to fail, you want the game to fail. Gotcha.

This is only nearly true.

The truth is, is isn’t the actuality of ganking that keeps people away from playing EvE it’s the fear of ganking. We all know that the stats show that not that many newbs are ganked, and for many of them losing a ship to another player is what keeps them playing. But there is this vicious rumour going round that if you start playing EvE you’ll be ganked before you even know what you’re doing, and have all your stuff stolen, which, despite the intense PvP and scam culture of EvE is, and has never been true.

Exordium is an attempt to counter that vicious rumour.

Let’s just blame this all on Aiko

Yes, I want a system to fail that nurtures wrong expectations in players about the game. I have made numerous suggestions on a better new player experience within the typical EVE settings that actually teaches them how EVE works (like guided missions to low sec with multiple approaches and no hard losses if they fail plus detailed explanations why they failed).

If you don’t want to listen to people who actually want a better EVE and instead relish an EVE that makes everyone, new players in particular, more frustrated, be my guest.

This new new highsec will only add a greater distance between Lowsec receiving new pilots.

How is allowing new players to learn in more gated manner a bad thing?

I get that some people will just stay in full-sec and will become complacent, but these players aren’t interested in your low-sec tutorial in the first place…

Having slower introduction to the game could be less overwhelming. Allow them to learn how to fit modules or reload ammo first, before you teach them about gate gun aggression mechanics.
