Of course. That wasn’t in dispute. What I was correcting was the assertion that that specific transaction required PLEX. It doesn’t.
It can be, yes. And if you can buy more tokens w/RL money, even moreso.
had to put my monocle on to read this… wait no gold ammo? well this is just a little korean mandate to not worry about… its counter culture to western audiance though, fix the game then get more greedy plain ugly
Indeed, they are gambling with a virtual currency; which is irrelevant in the face of legislation that may consider virtual currencies to be on a par with real ones for the purposes of licensing.
I think the issue with loot boxes is that people are pushed to keep buying more and more boxes in order to obtain the items they want to get. And they might never get them, because there’s never a 100% chance to obtain certain random items in a loot box system.
With the HyperNet Relay you don’t have that issue. If you want a certain item, you just pay for all the nodes and get a 100% chance at the item.
No, you don’t “have” to have PLEX bought with RL money. You can also just use RL money.
Worse than that it is allowed to buy and sell chars, so the history is 100% lost.
The ironic thing is the history the detractors so desperately want to save would be best saved with a real name change.
Well, this is definitely gambling -it’s just gambling set up by players instead of the devs.
But, it is that all that bad though? People already run legitimate and scam raffles all the time (i.e. Eve University used to run a raffle for corp members), and the average age of Eve players is like 34.
I don’t know. There’s certainly worse monetization methods they could have implement. Personally, I’m fine with it, but they probably should have some sort of age verification needed to be able to participate.
It has some real life detriment. People with gambling issues, will spend their money on PLEX to throw on the HyperRelay.
As said, it is a grey area. I mean, obviously CCP have no control on how people spend their money. However I guess the argument is, why introduce this when there are other ways to monetize and expand the cash shop.
Combine this together with general eve issues, where improvements to the actual game are usually few and far between. I think this is also where part of the consumer frustration comes from. If CCP had a track record of efficiently and actively improving the game as they would introduce stuff like this, it all would be so much easier to swallow.
Player-run gambling is NOT allowed and hasn’t been for some time. Scams, however, are. Yes it is MASSIVELY hypocritical of CCP but that doesn’t change the fact that this IS online gambling.
As for the “age verification” - are you high? “Tick this box to confirm you are over the legal age for gambling in your country of residence”. Yes. Because that has always worked well.
Assuming you’re the first person to get there, the seller puts it up at a price point where doing so is reasonable, and you have the ISK. But let’s be honest here, there’s a reason CCP is emphasizing the gambling aspect of the system. Their ideal version of the mechanic is that it becomes player-made loot boxes.
But CCP doesnt have to change the age restriction?
Where CCP legal is in all of this? I assume in a serious company they would first ask legal about such things, before development, not after the fact.
CCP is facilitating gambling in the game, using peoples greed for ISK, and CCP getting real money for that. They are the ultimate badies.

My feedback is simple. If that hits tranquility I stop playing.
You cannot use RL money to buy the raffle tickets from the other player who is offering the raffle, no. That can only be done via ISK.
Isk from PLEX from RL money. Easy when you think with your brain rather than the shield you use while white-knighting the indefensible. Lul af.
Remember if you are in the USA and you feel this is online gambling to write your congressman/congresswoman about it and bring it to their attention. Given things currently going on this is really the only viable option. CCP will do what they want and you can be sure they already checked the legality of it. Now if the USA puts a motion forward to ban this type of online activity, then case closed and this absolute turd will decompose like it should.
Ok wait.
Why would I use this?
Before I can sell my item I have to buy these nodes for a value equal to the value (set by CCP OMG lol) of my item?
Is this a scam?
Another option would be to not play. Or protest etc. Not everything is solved by Americans. Bc Murica.
And, once again: Yes, obviously. THE ONLY THING THAT STATEMENT WAS REGARDING WAS THE SPECIFICS OF THAT, PRECISE, DIRECT TRANSACTION. The fact that the ISK will come from PLEX which will come from RL money DOES NOT CHANGE THE FACT THAT YOU CANNOT USE EITHER PLEX OR RL MONEY TO DIRECTLY CONDUCT THAT TRANSACTION, IT HAS TO BE CONVERTED TO ISK FIRST.
So, you’ve got an officer mod worth (for simplicity’s sake) about 50,000,000,000 ISK.
You buy nodes. You get 1,000 nodes. You sell each of the nodes for 100,000,000 ISK.
Whoever wins the officer mod gets it cheap. 100 million. You pocket 100 billion, instead of 50 billion.
And 9,999 people paid 100 million for nuffin’. But hey! Gambling!
