Not to mention every single news article ever boasting with headlines about “X00 K Dollar battles” in this game
This.
Yep and like the broken boosher mechanic, oh wait too soon?
Go away Boomer.
You know, in reading this crap, I am actually happy CCP did not select my application for the Community position or whatever was Falcon’s position
Let’s start with: Eve Online should contain gambling.
We are demi-gods living in a dystopian future. We need to amuse ourselves for the rest of eternity and why not do that by indulging in games of chance? There should be smoke-filled casinos and card games going on in every station. We should be betting on, and match fixing, tournament events like say between the various alliances. We should be even forcing mortals to fight for our betting amusement like so:
But that said, there are a couple issues with this. Gambling in a subscription-based sandbox game/virtual world I don’t see as problematic. If you pay a flat fee just for access to an imaginary world anything that goes on their can legitimately be said to stay there and not really impact the well being of us here in the real world. But unfortunately that firewall was broken when CCP got into the business of taxing RMT so many years ago when they introduced PLEX. Now, CCP’s business model/revenue stream includes a healthy dose of selling in-game power to players, and unlike the revenue gate of the subscription that limited CCPs responsibility, they now will essentially take unlimited money from a player, perhaps beyond what is ethically acceptable to a reasonable person.
Of course CCP can’t always know their game is causing harm to a customer, but that doesn’t absolve them from the icky space of preying upon destructively impulsive people. Adding a gambling system where players can buy an infinite amount of credits to put into the system isn’t suddenly ok because the player can’t convert those tokens back to real currency. I mean, that may be the legal distinction in many jurisdictions, but that doesn’t mean CCP may not cause significant real-world harm and that other players may be uncomfortable with that.
I kinda pine for the simpler time when CCP was primarily focused on making a great game and selling more and more subscriptions to it, rather than in the business of trying to extract the most cash from their (dwindling number of) players. But that ship has sailed as we all know.
But that does bring me to the second problematic aspect of it - the fact it is a hidden monetization on what should be a core game mechanic. This is nominally a subscription-based game yet this is an additional monetization of what is really a core market/trading mechanic. Can we now expect that all new game “features” will only be accessible to subscribed players via a token with an additional cost? Because if this sets the precedent of what is to come, maybe it is time to get off this train.
You can’t really have it both ways CCP. Most people are fine with your cosmetic addons that aren’t included with your subscription. But if you are going to just keep adding things like Hyper-whatever Tokens that cost additional money to gate gameplay behind an additional cost, it doesn’t bode well for the game. Already too high PLEX prices will go up, the relative value of a subscription will go down, and the viability of your game will be strained even more. It isn’t sustainable.
But that’s your business. I don’t know what’s in your balance sheet or your long-term plans, but I am pretty sure stuff like this isn’t going to take us to “Eve Forever”.
C’est dommage.
I recommend making a new thread about this to reach as many people as possible and also to post about it on r/Eve for the same reason.
Just had a little play with this on sisi, seems ok tbh, but on the dev blog it reads “The process begins by buying HyperCores from the New Eden Store or from the regional market”
There are no HyperCores in the NES or on the market, you can just pay directly for each node with isk from your wallet. Is that intentional or will these Cores be added later?
Seems daft adding another curency again after you got rid of AUR, and the current system of direct wallet payment might just be better.
You need to update that dev blog though, if it’s inaccurate it will confuse.
Edit: If all the nodes are not purchased I pressume the order fails, If so do all parties get the full amount of isk returned for each node or is there loss?
Edit 2: And I shall add, that it’s only gambling if you dont buy all the nodes, if you are happy with the price for whatever it is on offer, and you see the order early enough you can just buy all the nodes and your going to get it.
Omg i know. I agree with you 200000%. CCP was bought out by black desert and ever sense its been turning into this super low IQ game. I think it is because all the good dev’s left CCP because hilmar sold out and banked 450 mill$ and left eve and ccp to the koreans and now its TANKING hardcore. They let out this ne triglav dread but didnt seed it on test or show the stats, then put it on TQ before sisi, it did 25k dps PRE-implants, 20h later, they nerfted to 10k pre-implants. WTH. Its like the interns are trying to be devs cuz the real ones all quit.
Huh, you wish!
I was surprised to see this feature being rolled out without taking feedback from the community. It was said in the declaration that it is a highly anticipated feature. And here in the forum we see no reason for that to be true.
I was trying to think how I can make some ISK out of this feature. But seriously I don’t find it useful.
Go to Rens or another hub and you’ll find them on the market. They were “supposed to be” in the NES.
AAAAHHHHhhhh…
You can positively smell the autism.
World Mental Health Day was on the 10th of october, just puting that out there.
I think its time to make eve online legacy servers. Pre titans. Cuz this eve is unstable and they dont even test what they do anymore.
Nice feature. Would like an additional feature to sort/refresh HyperNet offer by HyperNodes remaining. Would assist in finding offers that are likely to succeed having all raffle codes purchased.
Also a little anti-climactic there is no sounds/music during the final code reveal phase.
Lastly, how soon until HyperNet relay is integrated directly into the Eve Portal app for placing bids and checking on status of bids?
Personally, I love this idea. Provided that the hypercores trade on the market for a reasonable price I can see a great potential here for making higher profit margins on sales… even of simple things like T1 ships. I spent a fair amount of time on both Somer Blink and I Want Isk, and made a fair amount of ISK there in winnings. I enjoyed those sites a great deal. I like that this will seemingly open the door to raffelling items to any player who desires to try their hand at it in a controlled environment which prevents the abuses SB and IWI were accused of.
So, let’s see if this is intended to work the way I think it is. Let’s say, for example, that the hypercores are selling on the market for 1 million ISK each. Assuming that I can determine the number of cores used to set up the raffle only has a minimum limit based on item value, I buy 100 hypercores. I then use those cores to set up a 100 node raffle for a Raven battleship, and set the node price at 31 million ISK. In this instance, someone can potentially spend as little as 31 million ISK and own a shiny new Raven, while I have just effectively sold that Raven for 300 million ISK. Can anyone remember the last time they were able to sell a Raven for 300 million without scamming?
cheers.
So, I’m not sure the seller/creator of the order should also be able to purchase nodes for that sale/order. That just feels very exploitable. If you win the draw you still get all the cash from the sale and you get the item back.
PA/CCP should proceed with caution here. If there are no safeguards or limits on this they could find themselves in a court of law trying to prove this is not gambling which might be costly. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then guess what…it is a duck.
If someone needs to buy HyperCore to sale item, then the price should be higher than the original market price, right?
If the price is higher, why should someone buy it through bid instead of buying directly in market? I think the only reason should be to gamble. I do not see any chance for selling in lower price. Only in situations where I want to get rid of some item real quick, I might set lower price.
am I right?
just report it throught steam. we wont get anything from dry and empty complaining about it…anyway the hypercores arent gonna be cheap to obtain for buying stuff via hypernet. just go regional market for lower price.
