Introducing the HyperNet Relay

Why on earth are you wasting your time posting on the forums of a game you don’t play?

My omega is still valid as of now but will not renew, and who said anything about not playing. I have RL commitments that prevent playing sometimes but I do return every now and then but this is not a feature to keep me invested in Eve and so I’m little disappointed in it’s inclusion in a game that I do enjoy.

Sorry you didn’t like this addition. Maybe you’ll like the next one. Not every feature is for every player type.

However unlike a state lottery, it’s far more realistic that someone using Hypernet Relay offers can purchase all HyperNodes (the raffle codes) with in-game fantasy ISK to ‘buy’ the intangible item outright, 100% guarantee.

I wonder what effect such a gambling addition will have on EVE.

On one hand, it fits perfectly within the futuristic ruthless universe of obtaining wealth through all means including scams, extortion, backstabbing, piracy. Why gambling wasn’t already part of that list surprises me.

On the other hand, gambling will result in a lot of lucky rich people and unlucky bankrupt people. The former will drive up the prices of expensive items even more, while the latter may just quit EVE altogether.
So I’m afraid gambling may badly affect the EVE market as well as player retention.

Gambling is not bad per se, unlike heroin.
A better analogy would be that it would be like opening a fast food store in the middle of the city. Some people have eating disorders, and are addicted to it. Most other people can enjoy a snack without it harming their lives.

A lot of people do not have gambling addictions. While introducing random mechanics to a game like EVE may indeed be harmful to people with gambling addictions, it’s not something that’s bad for us all. I just hope that CCP gives people who do know they have a gambling addiction a way to permanently turn this feature off.

Clearly you haven’t seen the immense harm caused by gambling addiction or you wouldn’t be saying idiotic things like this. It is, however, why we call you an ignorant child.

“It’s ok to do this unethical thing, lots of other people also do it” is a pretty pathetic defense, don’t you think?

Ethics are subjective my friend. If you lose all your ISKies just go make some more! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::kiss:

If you think gambling is unethical, don’t participate.

Nobody cares about people losing ISK and then making more ISK within the game. The issue, as it always is with loot boxes and the various other F2P cash shop mechanics, is gambling addicts getting out their credit cards and pouring unhealthy amounts of money into buying more ISK to keep gambling.

Preying on gambling addicts like CCP is doing is unethical, and I have every right to call them a bunch of greedy assholes and lobby them to kill this proposal.

Did Pearl Abyss put you upto this? I would be yelling BOOOOOOOOO BOOOOOOO BOOOOOOOO right now but you can’t hear me, wtf CCP.

CCP has been preying on video game addicts for years, and nobody said a word. Let people play the games they want and stop forcing your views on others.

I can take that for you … because it is not complicated to design and brings more money to CCP’s pockets to spend on other projects than EvE.

Soooo many people complaining. Do you not think that CCP didn’t have their lawyers looking into gambling laws and such? You really think they just threw this out there without some thought? They are a business after all. They just found another way to make some more money. No one said you had to use the system they are about to implement. Just keep playing the game how you’ve been playing it and move on. Nothing you say will change this from coming.

Nonsense. CCP is not preying on video game addicts because their game mechanics don’t encourage addictive behavior. With a flat $15/month subscription fee regardless of use CCP gets zero benefit from an addict playing an unhealthy amount of hours per day and has no incentive to encourage that behavior. Gambling and F2P cash shops, on the other hand, are directly targeted at exploiting addictive behavior because that’s where the best profit is.

And I hope you remember this “stop forcing your views on others” any time you consider expressing an opinion on any game mechanic or proposed change. After all, how dare you not let people play the games they want when you complain that {ship} is underpowered and needs a buff. And it’s absolutely inexcusable that you would try to become a member of the CSM, an organization dedicated to “forcing its views on others”.

I’m going to quote this back to you when CCP removes supercaps/unique items/etc from the normal market and makes the F2P cash shop the only way to sell those items.

And what if not all HyperNodes are sold? Pondering something really big is being put up but never really sells all of them? Will it just sit there until 2038?

I’m thinking back to the time when I held Super Carrier/Titan lotteries, they sold quickly in the beginning, but many times had to close early just because it would take too long to sell all “tickets”.

I can see trying to offload something really unique could end up in such a situation…

Doesn’t bother me at all. Doesn’t affect how I play. Haven’t actually played the game for a good year now.
