Is botting legal in EVE?

The picture begs the question.

Multiple accounts are OK, as long as they are Omega.
There’s several technical gadgets which are not ok (see EULA), using these is called botting. But e.g. fleet warp is not part of it.

Just to bring clarity:

  1. is botting illegal only on paper while people can actually get away with pretty much anything, or
  2. there are legal means of controling several characters simulteneously to perform meaningful actions (such as automated mining, combat etc.) ?

There’s a misunderstanding linked to the previous reply to you.

Botting is the use of scripts to automate certain functions in a game. A ‘botter’ does not have to be physically present in order for his characters to perform their assigned tasks. I think this is used mainly in mining, but anyone can correct me if I’m wrong.

Input Broadcasting and allied functions also allow a player to automate certain operations in the game, but the player must be present at the keyboard in order to (at least) initiate the activity.

Both botting and input broadcasting are prohibited, and most players are perfectly aware of this without reading the Eula, etc.

There are allowed means of controlling multiple characters. So, to answer your questions:

  1. Botting is illegal, full stop. If people are ‘getting away with it’, it’s only because they haven’t (yet) been caught. It is rather a game of ‘catch-up’ though, for CCP.

  2. There are no permitted means of simultaneously performing automated actions involving multiple characters, apart from those already present in the game (e.g. ore moves automatically to the ore hold of a barge, fleet-warp, etc.).

I think your thread and its title are disingenuous. It is a back-handed invitation to thrash out yet again a perceived indifference to the issue of botting by the Company. I reject this.

You posted in New Citizens Q&A, which is designed to offer help to those just starting out with the game. Surely, botting and input broadcasting would be well down their list of priorities at that stage?

Troll thread, therefore. I only replied because you posted in this sub-forum. If you’d put it in GD, where it belongs, I’d have ignored it completely.
