Is EVE actually dying?

And considering that was before CCP got serious about RMT and BOT, we might actually be at higher player numbers now.

Is that a meme, or is the roadmap actually blank?

Also no one see that players drops begin when PLEX prices sky up and there’s no 2x per year expansion?

Eve has become stagnant, with players who’ve invested a lot into the game refusing to give up what they’ve put into it. Empires have been built, who wants to give up their empires?

When I fly around Eve now days, New Eden feels empty. I remember when it used to feel vibrant, and part of that was probably being a new player, but part of that was seeing more players everywhere. Now, the players are all stacking up in single systems throughout Eve, because they can. And because the more you use a system, the more useful the system become, there’s no reason to move from one system to another. There’s no need to fight over territory, there’s more then enough territory to go around.

So, the players are in maintenance mode, from my point of view, and the devs are going into maintenance mode as well it seems, from what’s been said at Eve Vegas.

CCP can introduce new NPCs, the Quadglavians, the Awakers, or whatever, and it doesn’t matter because they’re just more red dots on the overview, and those who multi-box farm moons and 'roids aren’t going to go chasing those new red dots. Those launch drones and click orbit aren’t going to go chasing a particular NPC as long as they can make good ISK from the ones in their home system.

As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, I multi-box. I have toons that never leave the system I log them into. I log in, I do what I do in that system, I log them out. I have my main, which I’m posting from that travels around a lot looking for stuff to do, exploring low-sec, high-sec, wormholes, and occasionally I’ve been whaling or such. I defend the home space from the gangs of people who come flying through our space for no other reason than to look for kills because sitting at home in their own systems are boring. I’ve been the person who’s gone deep into enemy territory looking for kills because sitting in my own space is boring… but, aside from alleviate boredom (which is why I play videos games) there’s no real need for me to leave home. People have learned that cooperation is better than war, that seems promising for humanity if we ever make it to space.

CCP should be doing things to encourage war, IMO.

Also, before people freak out, encouraging something and forcing it are not the same thing. (Though, one could argue that those who have war put upon them have little to no choice in the matter.)

CCP should be encouraging fights, and fixing things that discourage fights.

(Like how some people won’t do FW because its not much different than being a pirate, as long as you lose security status for attacking a pirate first that comes into your military base that you’re claiming or defending. - See other thread.)

Instead, with systems stacking people and becoming more rich the more they’r stacked, with FW punishing roleplayers and people who want to fly through high-sec without grinding or being killed by CONCORD, and other things… CCP has encouraged the turtle, and catered to the turtle, and so everyone is either a turtle, or leaves after being blue-balled too much. (And then someone else creates a new account to multi-box with to fill the whole.)

Pretty soon, Eve is going to be on person with 20k accounts! :stuck_out_tongue:

Eve dying threads are a source of amusement as they tend to crop up now again through the years.

I feel EVE has lost (and for a long time) its sense of purpose, guess that tends to happen when you start to try and please the player base. Sometimes, I wish companies would stick to their own vision of what they want their game to be.

It’s a meme taken from before they revealed how they are working and revealed part of it.
The particular roadmap showed is about not locking themselves into a 5 year plan with no flexibility. So they decide the focus of a quarter about 6 months out.
Watch the video for a better explanation.

Except for all the players that threaten to quite when their apple cart gets disturbed, you know, the Null Sec Bears, The Hi Sec Bears, the Hi Sec Griefers, and quite a few others.
No body wants their way of playing changed, only everyone else’s.

This is true, however, sometimes kicking apple carts can make for some of the most interesting game play.

After BoB got their sov dropped across the board, disbanded, kicked from 0.0 and reformed as IT. I ended up in RKK briefly and then The Executives. It was a lot of fun there was a bit of revenge driven energy. I am sure members were shed but there was a lot of enthusiasm for something interesting and difficult ahead. Obviously, BoB/IT/whatever eventually died out after stopped playing so I don’t know how that all ended…

The point is though, most likely don’t want their carts kicked and when that happens some will be lost. But also there is a possibility that others will be gained and others still might have more fun in the scurry after the apples roll out.

I want my way of playing Eve changed.

Not true at all. I, and many in my unit, wish CCP would get on with it with a blizzard of nearly constant changes–it keeps things fun and interesting and in many cases is needed anyhow. The chaos era was probably the most fun we’ve had in years and look forward to something similar in the future.

It is my theory that every time there is an ‘eve is dying’ megathread like this that another year or 2 is added to the games life expectancy…

How did the titanic sink when the blueprint clearly said it was “unsinkable”:thinking::thinking:

To be fair, it isn’t sinking anymore.

you think ccp falcon leaving is no sign for more shots breaking?

Their unwillingness to listen to the player base is what caused all of this…

I’ve been playing off and on since launch (yeah, that long). I am still coming back yearly or so. While it is not perfect, this might be the single best game I have ever played on any platform and in any genre. Even now, 16 years later, there is still no other game that can do what this game does. It’s completely unique.

I get sick of it and do other stuff, but I always end up coming back. Because for what this game is, there is nothing else existing or on the horizon that can replace it.

When I was in first grade, a kid asked how come they didn’t build the Titanic out of Cheerios - the unsinkable o.

Oh god. Please, never replace Eve. If anything, CCP and Eve should have a sticker that says “Do not duplicate”.

Why? The next incarnation might get a bit more right.

That was a great, great post bro.
