On topic, the only people sabotaging Eve are the ones that wish to erode or remove its cornerstones; and any devs that listen to them.
Eve has to evolve, just as it has in the past; what it doesn’t have to do is evolve in a completely different direction.
Regular patches, etc are all fine and dandy; but the last expansion that really grabbed people’s imagination was probably Apocrypha, which was a major change to the game in so many ways, very well received and shows what CCP are truly capable of when they’re so inclined.
I’m still holding a forlorn hope that some remnant of Seagull’s plan is still in mind, some of it looked to be game changing in terms of player agency.
At present CCP seem to have no specific plan in mind and while not in maintenance mode, not far off it.
I hope that this is not the case and that someone at CCP has something like Apocrypha in mind. It would be nice to know in general terms what their long term plans are, it appears that their efforts to monetise parts of the game may well be paying off though, 13% increase in revenue according to the linked article, some of which will be from monetisation via PLEX, some from subs. Not bad for a company with a “dying” niche game in an overall market that is reputed to be diminishing.
No “18 months” crap though, Incarna was such a disappointment.
In terms of that, I can’t comment as I had been playing Eve for about 2 weeks when it hit and as such I had no clue as to what was broken and what wasn’t. My knowledge of how Apocrypha affected the game came much reading.
Ugh, this Steve guy! Just because a company is successful and expanding doesn’t mean they want to fiddle around with their proven system - the one that has worked for 17 years. Mostly the opposite - actually.
i know that they made it harder for the incursion community and PvE Players in general.
yes, i know, PvP really needed this -20% armor and shield hardener thing. someone made a really good point and since then made it kind of sense for me in a PvP sense…
but …
they didnt thinked fully through how it would affect incursion and Mission running stuff (aka PvE content).
Adding Warp-To-Zero and warp bubbles - that was a big change.
Adding T2 ships and weapons - that was a big change.
Adding wormhole space - that was a big change.
Adding PI - sort of big.
Adding Faction Warfare and Incursions - that was a big change, I suppose.
…
Tweaking mineral distribution and some ship stats - big? Not really.
Yes, they’re small changes with regards to code. But they’re massive changes with regards to how things actually work. Not ‘don’t mess with it’ changes.
No it’s YOU who don’t get anything…CSM IS goons and all the ‘decisions’ made are pro goon and pro code…
We others(all non pvp players) all know that, beside what code may say about their ‘non connection’ to the goons the ‘non-connection’ is a real one.
We simply are pissed that the recent changes fell from the (decent and needed) slight course change into pve(away from the iceberg) right into the recent extreme and completely unnecessary PVP favor patch(back on course to the iceberg).
Nobody needed that or ask for it,instead and in totally opposite to it,the PVE course should have been continued…
Are you REALLY saying this has nothing to do with the goons?
I don’t know what Steve Ronuken is talking about, every single expansion that CCP has put out has contained bugs. The main issue is that CCP would let a lot of those bugs remain without resolving them, thus with each expansion more bugs would be added to the list.
Anyway, I started my Trial Account right after Empyrean Age was released. At the end of the 2 week trial period, I subbed my account and have remained subbed ever since. I had been playing for almost a year when Apocrypha Expansion was released.
I agree with you, Apocrypha was definitely the best expansion. It contained so much content that it was actually released in 2 parts. I highly doubt CCP will ever be able to top that expansion.
At best, they’re a glorified focus group that CCP is able to hold under NDA in order to discuss intricate aspects of the game.
They’re not freelance developers that join in order to implement the changes they want or influence the developers in the way that most benefits them. They’re there to tell CCP, “hey, in our experience, if you make a change like X, then it’s going to have impacts Y and Z in the game because in our experience, this happens.”
Please, at the very least, learn what the crap you’re talking about and maybe people will start to take your opinion seriously. Stop drinking the conspiracy koolaid.
