I think you should take a break, maybe from EVE in general, you’re getting worked up quite a bit over space pixels.
Plus, that’s no way to talk to a lady, just pointing this out here.
its not pvp that i have a problem with. as i have watched videos of eve onlines massive corp battles in nullsec and i enjoy watching them.
what peeves me off as ive said is when you get ganking groups come to the mining fleet you are in… in Hisec 0.8 - 0.9 to be precise…
and them sucide gank the miners.
PURELY because THEY don’t like those that enjoy mining… “oooh its pay us such an such for this permit… what bloody permit”. again mining players don’t need a stinking permit!
YOU DO NOT RULE HISEC SPACE… NULLSEC IS WHERE YOU GANKING PLAYERS BELONG
I play this game since 2009 and I am also fairly active at the forums. At no point I have gotten the feeling that “the community” is toxic. At all.
The community of EVE is for large degrees open minded and willing to help newcomers, but like we shape EVE, EVE has shaped us. Those who lasted for a decade or more are simply blunt, direct and have developed some thick skin. They don’t waste time with talking lollipops and butterflies. They don’t want to hurt anyone when they tell the complainers “harden up!” / “check how the badguy did win, learn from it!” / “gain some knowledge, be patient and pay attention!” - they simpy know that these are the ways to succeed. Thats helpful input.
Yes, there are a few real salt-farmers and hard trolls here and in the game, but they are not a majority. Compared to all those hundreds, maybe thousands of people who actively contribute in helping new players with writing and maintaining guides about all aspects of the game, programming super-helpful tools, hosting software, creating wikis, making videos to explain content or mechanics, being present in help/rookie chats, having newb-friendly corps and actively teach players what they need to know… nobdy can really say the EVE community is “toxic”. There is a litte bit poison here and there, like everywhere else. But remember - a litte poison at the right dose is simply “medicine”, you just need to decicde not to swallow it. So ignore the trolls and stop a conversation you don’t enjoy any more.
well said. i started in eve a year after you started playing eve.
i love the game and as ive said i have dabbled in both pvp and pve.
my niche in the game is mining. and mining with other people…
BTW AIKO i got no permit and not getting one either. i dont need your permission AIko.
but yes Syzygium your not wrong. i just am fed up with those gankers that think mining players need a permit. otherwise ya know its booom… and thats in hisec that ive seen and read this in chat in game.
They are only a scourge on people who do not fit their ships properly, or who do not follow a sensible policy of mining or hauling. As such they play the perfect role of natural selection predator…weeding out the poor fittings and bad practices. Thus ganking is actually essential to the game.
Yes. You got me there, I fully admit I am a type of nihilist. Ever since I learned the secret of the universe, it sort of put a wet blanket on things from my perspective. It is all very depressing, the more one thinks about it and in the end nothing really matters. Toxic levels in this game are not all that high as in other PvP I have encountered. From my personal point of view, Eve Online is about average toxic for any PvP game.
However the forums are above average on toxic. Once again it is just one opinion and experience that can make such an observation. That is about all anyone here can say, either you perceive this to be a toxic or not. A lot of times I have had food items labeled as using Ghost Peppers and found them no hotter than BBQ flavored. While Wendy’s Ghost Pepper Fries ™ are very hot and it too me 2 days to finish those demonic treats.
mmm nope… not when they gang up on you. sorry even a perfect fitted ship would not last against gankers.
ive always had my rigs fitted properly. just as the others in the mining fleets and old corps i was in also had as well.
now if it were one or two ships trying to blow people up. that would be different. hisec is for people that dont wish to do pvp… 1.0 being the highest security there is… and the idea is the lower down in security you go the more dangerous it gets … nullsec being the prime example.
You DO know there are vast areas of space where you can mine all day and rarely see anyone…let alone a Safety ganker ? I could cite Azerakish, which I myself used to mine in, as one such system. Often I was the only person in the system. Which made it incredibly easy to spot if half a dozen Safety ever did show up. There are numerous such systems in Eve.
yeah well sorry but when i joined eve in 2010. i was taught and told never to go to nullsec at least not without being in a fleet.
and even then there was a strong possibility you knew that you could get rekt but because it was nullsec people expected it. because they knew it was the most dangerous part of the verse. at least that’s how it used to be.
now i have never been to Azerakish… as i said nowadays i purely stick to Hisec thats it.
They don’t really think that :). They know nobody does need one. All this “mining permit” shenanigans is just high-level trolling to make you even more mad. If you don’t like playing their game, just ignore them. Avoiding to be ganked is so easypeasy, you can learn that in a day. But you have to understand the mechanics they use and how to counter them and then stick to some simple rules. And from that moment on you can just enjoy them trying to gank you and fail every time. And believe me, that can be quite satisfying.
As I said a bit earlier, one could almost directly relate toxicity to the inverse of the number of stargate jumps a person does a week. I have loooong since lost count of the number of times I’ve encountered toxic elements who don’t appear to have been active in that sense in Eve for years. There’s a consistent trend especially on the forums for some of the most toxic to not have a single killboard record since 2016 or 2019 or something like that. It’s an uncanny relationship.
and thats the post that Aiko posted. where she says the biggest trach talkers in eve are innocent little ventures etc.
thats what made me go off it. and as i said i know exactly which corp she is with… and more precisely where her agents in Hisec are. as i actually know a few of them myself.
when she made those comments… about ventures etc. thats when i knew that she is a ganker… because most gankers ive seen in eve… when ive been invisible. it has been always against mining ships… and they all spouted that rubbish she came out with about ventures an self proclaimed industrialists…
thats why i got peeved off…
as i have made it abundently clear to aiko today. im not playing her or her corps stupid little mining permit rubbish. if she doesnt like it… well tough crap to her lol
Azerakish is highsec…its a 0.6 system way down near Amarr. It has some of the largest asteroid belts I have ever seen in Eve…700km across in one case. This is the sort of thing one discovers if one explores Eve. I think a lot of miners tend to end up stuck 2 jumps from whatever AIR starter system they started in, and completely forget there are over 3,000 highsec systems…and most of them are empty a lot of the time.
Perusing old forums there’s a lot of old grudges that actually led to in game schenanigans between specific individuals. I can’t think of anything these last 3 years where anything on the forums led to a single in game pew pew.
Even when people share their stories here, the heists or the WH nomad videos, it’s a few people going „good job“ and then crickets.
Heck, even the in-character IGS is dead. All the drama related to the Trig stuff has burnt out.
So all that’s left are the occasional drive-bys and us forum gremlins.
