I reckon it all sounds fine on the basis that SP is now a tradable asset. ISK can be converted to SP and visa versa so it’s pretty much the same as ransoming someone for their cargo full of ore for all the difference it makes. Any concerns about limiting someone’s ability to play the game are just a nostalgic hark back to a time before skill injectors when SP was worth something more than all the other stuff.
I fail to see how CCP’s position would be unclear. It’s simple enough - if someone needs to spend real € (or $) in the process of falling for a scam, the scam itself becomes a bannable offense.
If it’s possible for the victim to recoup from the loss by ingame means - regardless how long it takes - it is morally objective, for sure, but permitted. ISK can be regained. Skill points can be retrained. Or rebought.
And, face it. Skill injectors make it possible to regain lost skillpoints in an accelerated pace. And it’s on the victim to decide whether to cough up the skillpoints or say “eff you” to the demands.
Lastly, AFAIK you nead at least 5M of skillpoints for skill extractors to actually work. So you can’t drain a character to zero, and a character with 5M skillpoints is still more than viable. Again, falling for a skillpoint scam/ransom wouldn’t leave a character unplayable. Far by not.
The fact that these days you have to repeatedly ask where the line is says more about you than the game or devs.
Besides that, this subject comes up time after time, and time after time CCP tell you that this is the only answer you’re going to get. Send a ticket, they ain’t going to argue in here.
Not necessarily.
Players have been banned many times for activities that up until the ban were considered acceptable. It’s as much uncertainty about CCP’s views on these things as it is anything morally questionable.
So there’s nothing wrong with asking CCP, because even after players are banned, the rulings aren’t made public. So in many cases, people just don’t know, even where it was considered fine previously.
There’s certainly nothing wrong with wanting to play within the rules.
Yeah the whole idea of secret rulings about secret rules you shouldn’t even be asking about is pretty obviously stupid. Like, so much so that I think the carebear apologists just defend it because they’re fundamentally butthurt about the mean side of the game.
They keep asserting that it HAS to be this way, their only justification being some hand-wavy nonsense about how complex everything is. I keep dismissing it as bull****.
Life goes on…
Ah good, more complaining from HS gankers/scammers.
I’m surprised this post didn’t get more attention - the poster is right. When the scam touches real life it can become a criminal investigation.
ccp don’t like people messing with others if it causes a loss of a sub for them. just ask whats her face that became the code martyr, got a perma ban for doing 1 such thing.
Necro…
Why wasn’t this autolocked?
I have no idea, but now - as is tradition - I declare this thread to be lawless forum space.
