(Let’s see how fast you kids get triggered and report this.)
The forums are filled with unskilled and inexperienced players who don’t know what they’re talking about. Why would CCP bother to interact with people here when it’s so obvious that it’d be a waste of time? From carebears whining about getting ganked to armchair game developers, and psycho conspiracy theorists (the same ones that keep popping up ever CSM election cycle) to crybabies who threaten to unsub and leave but never actually do. The forums here are a landfill.
What would CCP even have to gain from interacting? It’s enough that they already have people browsing through the forums to collect feedback. At most, you’re going to get the semi-annual “hey your feedback has been forwarded to the team!” type of messages.
Every patch they push out, you have the entire forums jumping down the dev’s throats screeching and freaking out about every little thing. Almost always, it’s overblown and people just overreact and ■■■■ on CCP just for the sake of overreacting because outrage culture porn is so strong. Why would CCP ever want to actively engage with people here?
They do. Some openly, others on alts. You should pay more attention.
Maybe I’m remembering with rose tinted glasses but I get the distinct feeling the devs posted way more regularly on the old forums. They memed, trolled, and most importantly even answered questions once in awhile.
I am not sure why you repeated my exact point…but okay.
Yes and no and that is what I was getting at. What the moderators do is nothing, sleeping, being absent, more nothing and then WHAT YOU SAY??? BOOM BANG SLAM BAN HAMMER. A full time, paid moderating staff could smooth that rubbish out.
Unskilled and inexperienced players make up a large number of their paying customers, bots clearly the baseline as black out showed but still noobs bring money to the game.
I know a news site that completely cancelled commenting with the lie that the change was temporary for the “safety” of users. Considering how much the mass media, government, corporations, police etc lie, I would say that site is now MORE toxic, because the commenters were exposing the lies…and that is probably the REAL reason that freedom was taken away.
According to what I see on other game fora, yes, it mainly is player toxicity that those games have in common. People complain about everything, everywhere. And it isn’t limited to games.
So, forums are toxic devs don’t use it but they will use reddit instead? Where is the logic in that? Also removing trash is ISD job. Maybe it is time to make it actuall job instead voluntary?
It is time to reorientate the communication between devs and players maybe? CSM hardly stands as a bridge. I never saw them that way. It is council body to get fresh look on features devs make.
This new “no roadmap” approach don’t help either. Devs maybe working hard on some features they think are cool while players may want balance/finish existing features like beta map. After months of coding they may find themselves in bad possition after reveal them. Internet is jungle now, we won’t back to previous state.
When people are not satisfied with a product they are paying for it is only natural they would complain. The only thing nobody criticizes is the thing nobody cares about.
Once people pay money for something they feel entitled to complain and a lot of the times they are just being overly entitled in the belief things should be the way they want!
Whatever. I assume you mean that some people find the endless, pointless insults enjoyable. I suppose so. It was the same in Asheron’s Call, and it’s probably the same with every online game.
I just log in and play the game that is in front of me. I just play to get some relief from the very real problems of RL in these times.
Here, as was said before, it’s the same people. Hundreds of words at a time, big, big blocks of text, torturously argued points about…what? Do they understand that none of this is real? Point, counterpoint, insult, counter-insult, counter-counter insult… I really wonder about such people. When the internet came into being there was such hope that it would become a way to enrich the human experience. But it really hasn’t.
You’re not obligated to be concerned with those people. Do your own thing and find your own community of like-minded individuals.
Complaining about the behavior of others when the interaction is optional just makes you look like a holier-than-thou, pseudo-intellectual, controlling asshole.
Have you seen how badly their launcher is? Makes anyone angry on how their games are set up with their own launcher. I would be toxic too if they cant fix it and keep it easy and simple… Thank god EVE’s launcher is simple. Easy to launch and no extra stuff needed. Never had a problem with EVE’s launcher.
Until recently when some developer at CCP had the glorious idea to remove the profiles feature which many people use and which CCP did not seem to know, or the refresh feature so that you now have to close the launcher every down time and restart it to trigger patch downloads, or that the launcher does now allow you to start new clients when it wants to down load a hot fix but cannot if you have running clients and does not tell you that there is a hot fix…
Because the people on reddit know what they’re talking about and are actually skilled at the game? And CCP can actually get useful feedback from experienced people?
Just because you personally, take offense at being called out for your inexperience and bad ideas doesn’t mean Reddit is “toxic”.
