Jita Gank

“Sorry officer. It was just for personal use”

Doesn’t really cut it, like when carrying boosters in highsec used to be illicit. 1 or 1000, Customs didn’t care. Illegal was illegal in the eyes of the law.

Not any longer, because faced with a choice of making the game easier, or building engaging gameplay around smuggling and using boosters in highsec, CCP went with the easy option, so Customs don’t care anymore, but CODE. do. They haven’t given up on highsec.

That’s kind of where CODE. comes from in relation to items like carbon. You should probably buy a mining permit and not carry carbon in future.

Good to know. You know, as I think of it - at the jump gate to Jita somebody activated a warp disruptor, maybe for me, idk but I am protected against that. They did use a locking accelerator. It is possible that somebody alerted them to me . . . maybe it was Aiko because she saw carbon on board. I will be sure to jettison carbon from now on.

Really, I did n’t know it was illegal. And apparently now that it is not CODE has taken a vigilante approach. Why put carbon and relic sites and sleeper cache if it is illegal?

On the first question about warp disruptors, you can check your combat log, but more likely that was just something happening on grid with you, so you saw the notification.

On the second part, yes, likely you were cargo and ship scanned and you were a juicy target to gank.

So they likely alerted themselves using alts with cargo and ship scanners and a passive targeter so you didn’t know.

It’s an old Sleeper trick, to catch anyone who steals from them. They put the carbon in there, and then the greedy miners haul it back to high sec, and their entire ship gets covered in carbon soot which alerts the police.

There is a difference between what is game legal and what breaches play made laws.

In this case, carbon is perfectly fine to carry from the game perspective, but goes against The Code, which is a player driven document that governs us all when in highsec (after all, we all voted in favour of it).

But, as someone that respects what James 315 has brought to highsec content, don’t get hung up on that. Hopefully this thread has answered your questions about that gank, and separately it’s worth educating yourself about The Code and CODE…

Good to know, I was not aware of it and that is was banned in high sec by the EVE players.

I see, so in your eyes, even if I am an explorer . . . you see me as a miner. I doubt if these players were thinking the same. I think they saw the loot and were waiting for me. I made some mistakes and paid a high price.

But I am not a miner, I work hard for the sleeper loot. I just prefer not to kill people for my ISK.

Just so you know, as others have said, the time to dock without a BM is longer that it visually seems.

I had a gank attempt in the past at Jita, lucky for me tho they only had one nado at the time. It also seemed like they only had a second to lock my cloaked blockade runner during the event, but you have to check the combat logs. In reality, from the time of docking requested to docking accepted was 5 seconds. Due to server ticks and lag it just seemed like a second.

But yah, take the right attitude and learn from this, and make BM’s for at least the trade hubs in high sec. Even if your PvP in EVE consists solely of the cat and mouse game, playing the mouse can be fun and have it’s moments too.

Well, yes… don’t you see yourself as a miner?

No I don’t. I like PVE - I am not into PVP. Miners and explorers are two different roles that were created in EVE by CCP. The skills, equipment, implants, techniques, exploration are a lot different from what miners do. The reality though is that EVE is not really PVE. Though they say it is , it is actually PVP. Sleeper Caches are about the only way to make good SK in EVE outside of killing people which I see as wrong and nt something I want to be involved with.

I’ll have to decide if I want to stay in game. My Mac crashes every hour because of the wine client that CCP uses. I can’t use hotkeys in the 64 bit version and need to buy another mouse to use it even then. Can’t see exploded gas in standard sleeper either. There are NPC Incrusion in Low Sec where CCP kills you if you are not careful. And you can lose months of hard work in five seconds of game play. I am seriously taking a time out on this game. I have learned a lot here, will think about it and then decide what to do.

Oh, well, there’s your problem. This is a PvP game my friend.

Yes, like I said . . . EVE is advertised as a PVE game but it really isn’t. It’s PVP.

Well, I don’t think it is advertised as a PvE game. Not sure what ad you saw.

This is the original EVE trailer, and it suggests that the game has been watered down from its original intent:

Have you considered that you might enjoy PvP if you learned more?

How about their Home page? EVE Online | The #1 Free Space MMORPG | Play here now!

I don’t know. I am limited on the money side of things. And the learning curve in time and real dollars is prohibitive.

I would still fill bad about killing people for money. I like games that are not one dimensional and eve seemed to promise that but that is not what I am experiencing.

Not really, you are falling into the common fallacy of thinking you need a big expensive ship. You should get a frigate, with a real world value of one or two pennies, and join a faction warfare corp.

You might also ask what would be the point of PvE without PvP? Honestly, what would be the point? Driving an actual semi truck would be more fun than hauling stuff to JIta.

Geeezze you are full of assumptions. Yes, I had a frigate, several Asteros. But they don’t last long in null sec. So after my last of 4 Asteros was destroyed I stuck with the Tengu. This was my first time using it and look what happened. No thank you, my experience is that this game has a big learning curve in time and dollars. You can’t go anywhere without Omega. I’ve been around the block in terms of skills and trying different approaches. The game is quite complex, which I found attractive. BUT it is almost completely PVP and one dimensional in that regard. I am looking elsewhere and considering my options.

And . . . you forget. I don’t like killing people. I don’t like robbing them of all their hard work and investment for the sake of a jolly. I prefer something with more dimensions.

PVP is fine, just keep the two separate, instead of blurring the boundaries. I think CCP tries to do that in High sec but then you get CRIMES being committed there that are against the rules. I have a lot of fun hacking sites and hauling stuff to Jita.

Will do. Thank you. I enjoy working sleeper caches there is a big rush there for me as well as breathing a sigh of relief when you can slip past hunters . . . well yes. But losing it all in High sec from a PVE perspective, especially when there are “rules” against it, doesn’t seem right. But again, even though EVE is advertised as PVE it is not. It’s a PVP game. I realise that now and there is no way around it.

Again, thank you everyone who sincerely tried to help. I learned a lot here. Now time for me to chill and think about the game.

I think that’s your issue here.

He does not care. He is here to troll you, not to understand nor discuss with you.

Nobody is aware of it. People claim it, but those claim make as much sense as a baby saying that white is black.

You really need to realize when people are posting in the forum to troll other people, that would save you lots of time.
Remember, when someone is trolling you, the best action is to ignore him. Make him waste more time than you did.

you are not. Nullification is completely useles in HS.

They scanned you on the previous gate. When you use AP you mark yourself as a victim.
NEVER use autopilot unless you want to respawn in death clone. That’s a very weird thing that CCP tells newbros to use AP in the tutorial, while in reality it makes you lose your ship.
