Best to do on the test server.
The lancer dread weapon has similar targeting as titan area weapons and smart bombs – they don’t need to target you to hit you, and can hit you while you are in warp and landing on grid.
That said, if a dread is sitting on a gate waiting for you to warp to it…you’ve clearly failed in your scouting duties.
that is correct, we lost 2 Blockade runners this way.
the way arround is to be unpredictable (not gate to gate) and create a time offset so they do not know when you comming in.
in a Freighter, the “not knowing” part is a bit a problem since thost things are slow. and can’t cloak. but yeah a scout fixes that issue so you not getting in this situation in the first place.

how about as a primary?
like if you are in a empty system and deploy one, do they “Signal” during anchoring already or is the existance only visible after they become active?
if a Mobile cyno does NOT signal during its deployment they could be used as primary plan-b?
the idea is to fly into a empty system with a webbing alt that can carry one, deploys it, the freighter jumps to it and the same alt is used to webb it to get into warp to the gate quickly.
as a solution when jumping trough a system that has no station as example.
It’s about as good as lighting a cyno at a safe in your recon cruiser and using the recon cruiser to web your JF into warp once it lands, except now it’s telegraphed to anyone who happens to visit the system in the two minutes it takes the beacon to turn on. I do not know if the beacon broadcasts it’s location to everyone in system before the cyno is live, but people can still see your mobile beacon on dscan or your name in local, if they happen to know your ways of working.
I don’t know if people use the method of lighting cynos at safes and webbing, but it does have a risk as anyone who happens to jump into system and warps to your cyno at a bad time can target your JF or bubble the cyno in advance if you aren’t fast enough with the system change, align and web.
yeah i totally agree, this would be only a viable solution if the cyno would NOT advertise its existence and function during the 2 minute anchoring delay.

Best to save up a good chunk of unused skill points (unless skill injectors are also nearly free on the test server, it’s been a while), but there’s a lot of good utility in the test server that is largely unused by the community.
The test server is not accessible to the public for like… a year or so, except special CCP mass-testing-events.

Having been a jf pilot I didn’t I flew an arc to and from -redacted- a long time ago. I had a Providence alt to do the big lifting but generally I had it docked in -redacted- low sec pocket with in -redacted- jumps from jita. I had 1 scare on the kaaputeen niarja gate a long time ago with a pack of machariels luckily my cyno alt was with in range
