L4 mission sniper besides Dominix?

Well, Tornados are used in null engagements and by gankers for a reason. And they can totally fit artillery… If large guns a still ways to go efficiently, you can even fit a Hurricane with medium artillery. Not quite 100+km, but still does just fine in most L4 missions. Not many basic rats can touch you efficiently past 60-70km, and those that can, you can circle at say 60km at the BC AB speed. That may not sound as much, but you’d be amazed how that throws their tracking off. And these are BC hulls, cheaper to fit and faster to train into. BS fits have been suggested above…

In terms of T1 non-pirate faction ships, the Armageddon gives the Dominix a run for its money, to the point that it really depends on the mission you are in. The Armageddon is better at dealing with Battleship heavy missions, whereas the Dominix will be what you want to use for anything else. I guess it depends on what your agent is giving you.

After some fiddling, Turret sniper ships weren’t all that strong compared to the Dominix and Armageddon (with the exception of pirate and Marauder class battleships of course). The Rokh was lackiing raw damage, and when I tried to fit a sentry hyperion it still fell 100-200 DPS short.

Below is a graph where I compare this. I have included the Rokh simply as a standard against turret ships. Both the Armageddon and the Dominix have been fitted with a three slot tank, three damage mods, two omnidirectionals, and then the Armageddon has been given one target painter and the Dominix two. The Dominix has 4x350mm Railgun II (Spike), and the Armageddon 5x Cruise Missile Launcher II (Fury). The Rokh is using 425’s and CN Plutonium.

The targets are a fairly bread and butter mission running Maller and Apocalypse, with prop mods turned off.

The biggest difference is that the Armageddon needs to use one drone faction class “up” from the Dominix, so where the Dominix uses Curators at 100km, the Armageddon uses wardens. Ironically because of the CML’s, the Armageddon has better damage selection than the Dominix, but will have to change out drones/adapt distance more frequently.

Of course, as has been stated already, Marauders will give you the best damage projection, followed by certain pirate factions.

I wouldn’t count the Typhoon out of the race, it can get fairly respectable dps out of Cruise missiles as well.

the missiles are so slow, I couldn’t deal with that.

if you are planning on doing that might as well use tachyons.

Honestly if you want a real long range sniper fit look no further than the Rokh, put some 450’s and with some proper skills you can hit at over 200km, just keep in mind that the ship is very skill reliant because of the cap limits, but this has been the best sniper ship I have used in game.

They say 2200 DPS at 200km?

760 DPS on 100 km, 850 with 5% gunnery implants and faction magnetic stabilizers.

The Rokh is lacking, as demonstrated in my graph in my previous reply.

Why not use a vindicator then?

Vindicator can’t fit drone range augmentor, so it loses DPS from drones, so Vindicator have more or less similar DPS on 100 km, but cost more ISK and need Matar Battleship skill to operate.

Large Drone Control Range Augmentor

This ship modification is designed to increase a ship’s drone control range at the expense of the ship’s CPU capacity.
The drawbacks of fitting this rig may be reduced by training the Drones Rigging skill.

x2 of them and your drones can hit out to 100km. You squeeze out a bit extra DPS.

The issue with turret snipers as opposed to the drone boats is damage lock. IMO where the Armageddon is slightly superior to the Dominix is that they can effectively do the same thing with drones, but the Armageddon can also use its Cruise Missiles to eliminate battleships, while having the option of selective & specific damage.

Well, if you have fit to suggest - feel free to post it, I tried to fit Vindi to be better than Mega Navy and failed, at least it looked not good enough to justify ISK difference.

Armageddon/Typhoon can have more DPS with cruise missiles/drones, for sure, no argue about it.

Also included is a fairly standard Sniper Dominix fit, I have graphed your Megathron, the above Vindicator, and the below Dominix fit. The graph at the end of this post demonstrates that the Vindicator outperforms the Megathron, which you would expect considering the ship and fit cost around 250m more. That said, at 100km the performance difference is marginal, and you would be paying for the extra DPS between 0-100km (nearly 100 extra DPS up to 90km).

The reason I said “why not use a Vindicator” was because of the extra cost between a Navy Megathron and a Dominix (Over double the cost), when in reality you are gaining an extra 40 DPS, up to around 90km, when at which point the Dominix becomes superior again (The Vindicator remains better than both until 98km, when the Dominix inches ahead).

So, is paying 800m worth it when you can pay 400m; is that 400 million ISK really worth 40 DPS? If so, then wouldn’t 650m on top of the cost of the Dominix make more sense and to get a Vindicator to get an extra 140 DPS?

Anyway, the graph below demonstrates the 3 ships in question against a battleship, and a cruiser, the most typical target sigs and speeds in a L4 mission.

This is hard to tell really, For full clears with sniping ships it is hard to evaluate how long it will take to cover 650m difference with 40 additional DPS. For blitzing there is much better ships available

But the question wasn’t about which is the best blitzing mission (it would not be a sniper fit boat), it was;

And, 40 DPS IMO is negligible, and can easily be lost or gained between more efficient mission management, I do not think +400m is worth it, althought +650m might be if you think an extra 140 DPS is needed.

Its not +650m for +40DPS compared to the Dominix, its +400m for 40 DPS, or +650m for 140 DPS. If it were me and I were that concerned with it, I would go for the +650 instead of the +400 and get 3 times the extra DPS.

Its irrelevant anyway, as far as sniping ships go, if you don’t want to use missiles, for <500m you go Dominix, for over, you go Paladin with Tachyons. Its a shame OP doesn’t want to consider using missiles as you then have plenty of options.
