actually this would make sense, knowing if someone is in the correct position or not
I heard on the keynote that new graphical changes will mean instead of a ship having 3 graphical layers, they will be able to have an indefinite number, so if this is taken seriously as an idea a sort of “see where you are” for either the FC or yourself, you could take a page out of metal gear solid, when you use the stealth suit you have a green silhouette as your representation in game.
