I’d like to make an addendum to my earlier post; replacing “idiot” with “asshole” doesn’t change the truth of that quote. I seriously doubt that many people in CODE. are assholes, and I’ve spoken to members of their alliance who were very polite and helpful when they weren’t acting in-character. Unfortunately, they’ve probably attracted some genuine assholes into their ranks who either don’t know or don’t care that the rest of the alliance is only pretending to be assholes. Even if asshole players get purged once the leadership figures out they’re genuinely malicious, I doubt this has done the alliance’s reputation any favors.
So I can imagine, though I don’t follow the blog because James’ particular brand of humor isn’t my cup of tea. Have you ever run into any of the idiots (or assholes) yourself?
Well, it wasn’t me. According to EveWho that character started in January and was biomassed about a month later; I only started playing in June.
That’s fair. I suppose that instead of saying “CODE. is a joke” it would be more accurate to say that “CODE. is the joke”. Specifically, it’s the joke that James 315 has been playing on the rest of the game since he posted his first manifesto back in 2011. Almost eight years later and it may be getting long in the tooth, but he clearly hasn’t grown tired of it.
I don’t know what your problem is, to be honest. What is so ‘funny’ or ‘wrong’ to you about the fact that people want to shoot highsec miners? They are, as James said, terrible for the health of the game. AFK miners need to just uninstall and leave the game for people who actually enjoy playing it. CODE. isn’t roleplaying about any of this. We are serious.
I don’t have any real problem with CODE. I’ve learned to just accept you guys as another part of the game, and while I don’t find James’ particular brand of humor to be all that funny that’s just my personal taste, not a judgment of the man himself. Nor do I think you and your compatriots’ behavior is wrong from a moral or gameplay perspective, even if I do find it somewhat obnoxious.
Also, when I talk about CODE.'s roleplaying I’m referring to the whole “new rulers of hisec” spiel, not their desire to eliminate AFK players and bots. I believe that CODE. genuinely wants to stop those things, and I agree that AFK mining and ratting are bad for the game, though I’m not likely to become a ganker myself.
I don’t see any reason to work myself into a frenzy over CODE.'s actions and instead just accept them for what they are. That and keep an eye out for them when I’m mining, of course.
I mean, look, I legit do not understand why anybody would disagree with what CODE is doing. Even the miners have no reason to protest. Highsec mining is an absolute waste of time and effort. If you want to mine - go find a nice wormhole. Sitting in highsec AFK mining with an Orca is the real reason players quit the game. New players see that, and decide this must be the most boring game ever.
Well, I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure that James has been playing a joke on the rest of New Eden for the last eight years. It’s not like he actually believes he’s the ruler of hisec, that’s just a hat he wears.
And I’m not so arrogant to believe that something isn’t amusing just because it doesn’t amuse me. Different strokes for different folks, and all that; I enjoy black humor well enough, but several members of my family don’t think it’s funny at all.
To be honest, that’s because I’d like it if people stopped making such a fuss about you guys. As much as I understand not wanting to be ganked, the sheer amount of complaining I see about CODE. is getting tiresome.
I mean, if you converted the “salt” CODE. has generated over the years into actual, physical salt and dumped it into a single pile then the result would probably look like a freaking scale model of Monte Kali!
And that’s not even getting into the people who insist you’re all scum of the earth and won’t hear anything else. Rare, yes, but they certainly left an impression.
I get that, I really do. As far as mechanics are concerned mining is probably the dullest activity in the game, and I would love to see the system get a revamp that actually makes it engaging and fun, but I wouldn’t call it useless. Hell, hisec moon mining is how I accumulated enough minerals to build my first Dominix! The shared can operations run by E-Uni are also pretty fun because we’re all talking to each other while we mine, and I’ve had some pretty nice conversations with other members while we’re chiseling away at the asteroids in front of us.
Like so many things in EvE, I guess it all comes down to who you spend your time with. Good people can bring fun and happiness to something that’s dull and bland when you do it by yourself.
Well, actually its an anti-CODE thread, but I can see why you might think it is a promotional thread, since every anti-CODE argument eventually leads to universal agreement that James 315 is the rightful CEO of highsec.
Oh yes, they are usually overzealous with lots of ideas about “optimising” our income, tracking permits and in general don’t get the humor of it. They usually quit pretty fast and become the “former fan” type rebels.
People don’t get that we really just enjoy killing miners. Killing miners is absolutely hilarious.
See, I can respect that. Killing ■■■■ for the sake of killing ■■■■ is a motivation I can understand. I genuinely believe CODE is a net positive for the game. I just also think that some of your members are really boring in how they go about enforcing the ‘laws’, when they start taking the schtick so humorlessly in posts that it becomes tedious to read.
It’s not a schtick, that’s what some people don’t understand. We actually believe this, so of course it’s not always a ‘funny’ joke or entertainment, because for us this is just like constantly having to explain the Constitution to a bunch of illiterate miners.
James is the High King of Halaima and Kamio.
He inherited the fortunes of Currin and slew the beast BoB.
He was permabanned for the sins of the miners, but is arisen and resides in Hek!
Every miner needs a permit - no exceptions!
We are just trying to explain the basic facts of history and the legal framework of this civilization, so that miners understand how it came to be that the old empires were dissolved, and the New Order arose to replace them.
Miners often complain that they were never informed or given a proper warning - so what you see as shtick or humorless repetition, this is in fact the warning that miners have repeatedly requested. We aim to please, protect, and serve!
Also will add that CODE agents lack imagination and don’t create the content they so proudly claim they do. Why don’t they create specific events weekly, like let’s say, camp a system and tottaly blockade it, ask Ramson, etc, but I mean in high scale. it would be so fun to try to break it. Or camp a specific moon pop somewhere and deny people from actually mine there, the possibilities are infinite on content they can create, but no, they prefer to hunt lonely and not important targets in forgotten from God systems and post crap in forums. the decadence is so much that me, a kindly “new” player that don’t even do PvP is teaching how to create content.
